  1. No really, it does. Everything about it is better. Faster, better picture, plays everything, etc. But you are right, you are paying a premium for those capabilities, but I think it is definitely worth it.

No it doesn't. Better? Yes, but not "blows it away" better. Not from my experience. I guess we can agree to disagree on that point.

Fair enough. I guess we have different definitions of what blows away means. If something is better in all facets, I would say that blows something away. If it was just better at one thing, I would be more apt to agree with you. It's all good though, I could just be defending my purchase ;^P PS3 is set up in the bedroom now.
  2. Now, as nice as the Oppo players are, I would not go so far as to say that it "blows away" the PS/3. Yeah, for something that costs that much, I would hope I would get better performance than a stock PS/3 unit, but I don't see it "blowing it away" as some seem to enthusiastically claim,

  3. If you are interested I can link you some good wall stands for them. I have them for my rears and they can move around a bit for pointing, plus they won't take any floor space. If they would work in your setup they would be a very good option.

  4. ^^^You really have to point it at whatever you want to turn off, that's something I've noticed. Not a big deal if everything is out in the open, but when it wasn't in my setup, it was a bit of a pain.

  5. I was able to put up all of my other remotes. My scare with universal remotes was that there is always that 'one' button that you need that the universal doesn't have, but if you go to the devices button and pick the device you want to control, it has every button that is on the original remote. You can also set up shortcuts for all of the buttons you use the most on each screen. It really is a great remote and I'm glad I have it.

  6. I've got one of those. Really nice piece of gadgetry. I agree that it doesn't sync well with Macs, I think I got it to work a couple times, but gave up and use my PC as well. After using it for a while I decided that the Harmony One would have probably been plenty enough for my needs, but it's still pretty cool. It took me a bit to figure it out totally, but works great now. Let me know if you have any questions on it =^)

  7. Didn't realize how big this subject got. I think I decided to go with the PS3 Slim rather than the Super Slim. Listening here and looking at the reviews, I don't like the talk of the lack of build quality of the super slim.

Would love the Oppo but $500 is not worth any upgrade in quality. If the PS3 is the same or better than the older Panasonic I'm using now, which is great, I will be very happy. This whole thing started when my mom asked what my wife and I wanted for Christmas. Our Blu-Ray is really slow starting up and the PS3 apparently is quick, and is a gaming console, so why not.

Although I disagree with your statement that the Oppo is not worth the money, I hope you enjoy your PS3. It's not that 'quick' when compared to one of the new dedicated players, but it's sufficient. It also has pretty much any streaming app you could want, so overall it's a good player and nothing to scoff at.
  8. Thanks for all the help. We got a macbook pro and its really nice but the wifi is really slow. When i run it with the ethernet cord its perfect so i knows its the wifi. After reading and talking to apple it sounds like its a problem with a lot of these so I'm going to take it back if we cant get it working right and get something else. i have read up and tried a few thing but its pretty frustrating. Apple did say they could sell me software to fix it i said thanks but no thanks lol.

Perhaps the router itself is the culprit. Have you tried the wifi at a hotspot? I have had the worst luck with wifi routers... The ethernet works fine, and the wifi sometimes hardly moves and disconnects all the time... Plug in the ethernet, and all your troubles are gone. Sounds frighteningly familiar. Smile
I'm not sure how relevant the following is, but I got a MacBook Pro laptop for the dining room after many years using my Dell PC as my main system in the basement. The Dell stayed downstairs, where I put a new router to wi-fi to the Mac.

It's not been wholly successful -- sometimes the Mac doesn't "Wi" for a long time, and I never know when it will finally do it. Some PC programs like AOL don't work very well, either, and some Windows programs aren't made for Macs.

I have two other rather major issues: (1) I can't open a second window (or don't know how) on the Mac, so I can't go back and forth between windows; and (2) the MS keyboard works quite differently from the Mac's -- the Mac "delete" key has awkward uses; the Mac doesn't use the MS CTRL-key shortcuts; and the Home and End keys go to the beginning and end of the document, not the line. I finally gave up and got an MS keyboard, which takes up extra space and duplicates the Mac's keyboard. This is NOT an arrangement I'd do again!

I have never had a problem with connecting to wifi with 4 macs between my wife and I. You can open a second window. Mac uses command instead of CTRL for shortcuts, such as command T, for a new browser tab or command N for a new browser window. Personally, I do like OSX, but not any more than I like Windows. I think that macs are *way* overpriced for the specs you get, and the only reason I continue to buy them is that they tend to be more stable for DJing.
