  1. Nearly as nice to look at as to listen to..congrats and enjoy!
  2. For the simply fact that it is 35 to 36 years old and there is always a half dozen or so on e-bay leads me to beleave the build quality is pretty good..still fairly easy to git parts for. Again though , it depends on the $ paid , deffinintly better amps and receivers to be had but i should have aprox 350 in my 1050 "that includes price pd and refurb cost"..and i consider it $ well spent.
  3. Great receiver, built like a tank, do a search for "pictures of pioneer sx-1050"..and take a look at the inside. My 1050 is setting on a friends bench waiting for a complete refurb. Also have the 950..850 and 650 and a pioneer referance A-717 amp. They all do a nice job with my Quartets and 5.5s..depending on the price you pay you should be pleased..good luck..Pat.
  4. Any of the KG series would work fine with the NAD...fairly easy to find at resonable prices and easy to mod if you choose to..good luck..Pat.
  5. Another opotion would be to build some plywood cabs.."slightly larger then the original cabs"..so its possible to slip the original cabs into the rear and scoot them foreward so nothing but the grills show. I have did this and it works well. Check the ph book for a local cabinet guy and tell them what you need..should,nt be that costly ..also lowes sales a black laquar in a spray can and it works well,i just refinished my Quartets and they look great..Good luck..Pat.
  6. Picked up a nice pr a few weeks ago for 200$, could,nt pass them up for that price! 300$ to 400$ is a fair price IMO for a "very good" speaker.
  7. Hello David..Welcome to the forum. Now you see why i i was looking for a second pair of Quartets!.Money well spent for the crites. Keep in mind there is a "aprox 20 hour".. burn in time for the sonicaps so you should expect even more for your effort. I plan to do my kg5.5s next then eventually the chorus,s..By the way ,what do you plan to hook the pioneer receiver to? also ,how bout some pics of your mcintosh gear!
  8. Gotta love those old pioneer receivers..My first system was a pioneer sx-780 with the large advents purchased new in 1979 from sound design in Tampa..not much of a receiver but still have fond memories of the advents.I still have a few of the pioneers..sx-650..850 and 950..hard to find a better looking receiver then the old pioneers. They do a deasent job for a consumer grade receiver..Might p-u a pair of the advents someday!
  9. Have,nt used any veneers but used tons of birh plywood to build furniture and cabinets with..not sure if i can help or not but happy to try..pm if you like..Pat.
  10. Butter knife works pretty good..smothe round edges.
  11. I agree with peter-z..tite bond glue should fix the problem..its good glue..i use it to build cabinets with "but" be carefull not to allow the glue to pass through the seam and into the cabinet. may end up with a mess.
  12. Thats a great looking set up you have there Michael..only thing missing would be "me" sitting in the front row with the remote in one hand some popcorn in another and a glass of sweet tea in the cup holder! Look foreward to seeing it in person soon.
  13. Thanks Michael..and thanks again for all the help!
  14. I would place them close to wherever you are going to place your speakers.
