  1. I have a Yamaha AVR which uses YPAO for calibration. I calibrated my system (see it below and in links) using YPAO and then I then did some manual adjustments including changing all speakers to small and adjusting the crossovers according to each speaker pair's capabilities. I then ran manual test tones from the AVR set to '0', measuring and adjusting the each speaker to 75db using an SPL meter (they were all fairly close already). I then set the subwoofer to 78db so it's runs a little 'hot'. With all that in mind, I listen to most movies at -20db to -15db - of course depending on the loudness of the movie.

    RC 64

Nope. 2 years old - used.

    RC 64

I live near Rochester, NY and I bought them USED from a local A/V store.

    RC 64

You can call it BS if you want, but I paid $1804.98 two months ago for all three used (2 year old) speakers -- just as I posted above. Maybe it was because I bought all three of them as a package. Maybe it's because I've bought from this store numerous times before and they wantted to give me a deal. Maybe it's because they are not really in the business of selling used equipment -- but do it sometimes as an aid to selling their new equipment. Maybe he wanted to give me a discount on the set and took it off just the RC-64. I'm not sure. I can only tell you, that's what I paid for all three and that's the itemized pricing as it shows on the receipt that I have at home. BTW, I actually went in to buy new speakers - (2) RF-82's and a RC-62. They would have cost me $1750. The sales guy told me about the used 83/64 combo he had available. So I had him order the 82's and did a A/B comparison with the 83's. Since there was really no compariosn, I went with the used 83's/64 and paid the little bit of extra money.

    RC 64

I spoke to him prior to purchasing my towers and center. He wanted 2800.00 for his RC-64 / RF-83's Just a tad on the high side I'd say..... I would certainly agree that $2800 is a tad high. Within the last 2 months, I upgraded to a 2-year old set of RF-83's/RC-64 from a local A/V store: Klipsch RF-83 2 665.00 1329.99 Klipsch RC-64 1 474.99 474.99 RF-83/RC-64 System 1804.98 I probably could have found them cheaper with some effort but I felt safer with the local A/V store because I've bought a number of things from them and they would defenitely provide bettter service/support and even compensation/replacement if required. BTW, I LOVE the speakers!
  6. Youthman wrote up a pretty nice thread here comparing both. Thanks for the link. Interesting reading. I only got my83's/64 two weeks ago so I'm still very excited to have them.
  7. Do you remember and can you describe what the difference in sound is? I have the 83's but have not heard the 7's so I'm just curious.
  8. Ahh! You caught me [] I agree with you regarding Zen Traveler.
  9. Thank you! The A/V furniture is by Salamander under their Synergy Line. Many of my components used to be where he center speaker is now, but due to the size increase of new versus previous center speaker, I had to move them to the enclosed door area underneath. The DVDs/BlueRays and CD's that were down there are now in a pile on the floor. I have ordered a single-width storage 'cabinet' that exactly matches the A/V furniture to hold all of it. It should be in soon and I'll set it up and then take a full set of pictures of everything.
  10. Thank you! My wife gets the credit for the plants. She does very well with them.
  11. Sounds reasonable to me! After listening to the speakers and to advise here and elsewhere, I've decided to leave the crossover set at 80 Hz. Thanks for your response.
  12. Probably not from me. Welcome Thank you! I've run YPAO (Yamaha's Audio Calibration software) several times and the crossover has been set to both 80 and 90 during different sessions. According to the manual, in addition to what's on the LFE channel that goes to the Subwoofer, setting the crossover point at 80 (or whever) sends all sound for any speakers designated as "small" below 80 Hz to the Subwoofer as well. How the calibration software determines what that crossover point should be is unknown to me.
  13. Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, the receiver has a single cutover frequency for all speakers. I've currently got it set for 80, thinking that the small hole in the back speakers isn't a big deal.
  14. I recently upgraded my HT System with a pair of RF-83's and a RC-64. Wonderful speakers! I'm stll in the process of tweaking the sound. While I use YPAO on my Yamaha RX-V663 receiver to get some starting-point settings, the results are just that and I've needed to change them. I'm currently working on the crossover point. YPAO set it variously at 80 or 90 Hz. Here's the frequency response for my speakers: Speaker Position(s) Freq Response Klipsch RF-83 L/R Front 29 Hz-21kHz ± 3dB Klipsch RC-64 Center 62 Hz-21 kHz ± 3dB Klipsch RVX-54 L/R Sorround 75 Hz-20 kHz ±3dB Klipsch RSX-5 L/R Rear 87 Hz-20 kHz ± 3dB RSW-10D Sub-woofer 24-120 Hz 80 Hz is standard and would encompass all 'small' speakers above except for a bit of the the rears -- but perhaps this is not much of an issue. 90Hz would cover even the backs but cut off more of the very capable fronts -- and a gian, maybe having a small hole on the backs isn't important. I know it's a matter of testing/listening but am wondering if there are any standard bits of wisdom on this. TIA Lee
