  1. I got an email from our cable/ Internet / phone provider ( Cox ) , that we went over our data usage " cap" last month for Internet . Evidently we average around15 gigs ,or more,of usage a day,and are "allowed" 250 gigs a month. I have 2 teens at home who spend way to much time watching YouTube , Netflix, and online gaming evidently. I am streaming music wirelessly from a laptop to a Squeezebox for a few hours a day, and am guilty of streaming a couple of tv shows from amazon prime a couple nights a week. My wife piddles around on her iPad playing games. I have changed the settings on Netflix to the lowest quality, and don't stream anything HD , told the kids to not download games, and left most cloud services set to off, in addition I hooked the laptop up to the squeezebox with a Ethernet connection( which takes the ipeng app away and totally bums me out) I have also looked at all settings on the wireless network and changed the passwords on wpa2 for the router. According to the data usage meter on Cox's website we are averaging using 10 gigs a day now.....still seems like a lot to me. Other than us all getting a life and not using the Internet does anyone have any suggestions on what consumes so much usage? ..School starts in a couple of weeks so the kids usage will decrease , and football will be starting up, so that will be all I watch on tv ..evidently not on Cox's newly acquired ESPN3 tho. it seems to me that having a 250 gig cap on usage is kind of retro in this age of instant everything and all the high tech gadgets. If all Internet providers are doing this , then buying stock in the movie Studio's that release blurays and DVD 's is probably a good move , the streaming services are going to take a major hit. Is anyone else going through this?
  2. Good for you, evidently I wasn't . I have a question regarding the output from bluray's..I run a 5.1 system,ps3 set to bitstream (using hdmi [] ) . On discs such as The Hobbit, the audio is DTS -HD MA English 7.1 . Since I am only running 5channels , my receiver is modifying the 7.1 to 5.1 correct? then on discs where I cannot change the audio menu to 5.1 my receiver is just deciding to send the 4 surround channels into 2, right? So am I missing the HD sound by not having surround backs? sorry for the run on sentences .
  3. http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=40821 good read for you. You are def not taking full advantage of the offered hd tracks on blu ray with optical My father was deaf, I am not..That's kind of a rude statement. I have things ran with hdmi, that's why I have the splitter,,and to ME ..there is not a major difference running things as bitstream or PCM.. Thanks for the link...but I don't think it will correct my hearing. you took my statement completely wrong. I was simply stating by using a optical cable you are only getting Dolby digital or dts soundtracks. You are not even hearing the Dolby true HD or dts-hd. You are right about PCM and bitstream sounding the same because they do. But in this case you are getting 5.0 standard definition sound instead of 7.1 high definition surround sound. Scrappydue, you are correct about me not understanding your statement, I was way off base and pretty defensive with my response. I would like to apologize for saying you were rude, when in fact you were trying to be informative. The only thing rude in our exchange was my response. I am sorry.

  5. [Y] Everything is ripped to a laptop, played by a Squeezebox Touch, controlled by Ipeng. My stuff is lossless, my wife's is imported from iTunes at lower bit rates....fairly easy to switch back and forth to hear the difference in what duplicates we have ....it's substantial in most cases.
  6. No problem,, I think as long as its got its own power source the handshake issue goes away. My receiver got some terrible reviews because of hdmi switching,( pita), so I was hesitant about adding a potential problem, but so far so good. I hope it works well for you also.
  7. I recently added a splitter for the same reasons., my receiver does processing to the video which kind of yucks up bluray's. I got a Rocketfish powered switcher and have had zero problems. On a side note....running my ps3 with an optical connection allowed disc's to be played via PCM . Other than seeing DTS or True HD on my receiver there is no upgrade in sound quality.IMO
  8. I just watched this also, I liked it a lot ! Robert E.Howard created some exceptional characters in his writings, I think Soloman Kane did a better job promoting his writings than any of the Conan flicks.
  9. Yep, 4 or 5 looks pretty central. I have the 4th gen airport extreme, fwiw. Your house looks like it has a nice flow to it.[H]
  10. I second Scrappy's suggestion. We had some connection/speed issues for a while, I got an AirPort Extreme and we very rarely have any issues. I can keep my iPad connected to wifi when I am outside 40 ft from our house.(maybe farther, haven't jumped our fence to test yet). apple might be the evil empire, but their stuff works really well together. good luck
  11. I had to try two times to get mine going but I think I screwed something up being impatient the first time. Maybe try reinstalling the Klipsch app. Or call customer service? sorry I'm not much help.
  12. Evidently part of a 4 day sale, probably ends July 7th. I picked one up for our outside porch, verdict not in yet.
  13. I take multi vitamins and drink whey protein shakes daily. Not real happy with the shakes , but it's the only way I can make sure I get 50-60 grams of protein daily( being a vegetarian ). The shakes are the same type that thin people , who want to gain weight , drink to bulk up. I am over 50 and bulk is not something I need or desire. It works well besides the unwanted side effects. I install floor coverings and have worked by myself the last 20+ years, averaging around 90 yards installed daily, so I get my fair share of exercise. I have been blessed with being very healthy, I've probably been to a doctor 3times in the last 10 years , and am on no prescription meds. If I feel the onset of a cold or think I have an infection I swallow garlic cloves, seems to do the trick ,,for me anyway. I haven't been bit by a vampire either. I try other herbs for other maladys I don't mean to sound like an over inflated donkey, but I truly believe if you take care with what you ingest ,there are some rewards
  14. Stoned redneck hippie ....one of those words don't go with the others. I always thought a redneck meant a person was a prick , but looking at the definition I have been mistaken and to make matters worse it seems I am indeed a redneck myself.....bummer.[:|] As far as licensing naturopaths, I live in the uber conservative state of corn , as backward as I consider our state to be, we have had licensed naturopaths for years. I figure the insurance industry must have saw some potential for profit as well as the state receiving revenue from the licenses. I am really interested in the fallout over the pot legalization thing. I think that may be a step in the right direction. I haven't imbibed for close to a couple decades and have no intention of firing up again, but anything that can reduce the number of people incarcerated ( for smoking) is a step in the right direction.
  15. Beige? Definitely not yellow.
  16. Thanks for the link. The cell phone theory is interesting. It would be curious to see if the masses would abstain from the cell phone obsession if it proved conclusively to be the culprit.,,,,I think probably not.
  17. Hi Shawn, welcome to the forums! I have a set of Rf 83's, a Rf 64 ii center ,with RB -75 surrounds..all the speakers are not matched to each other,,they just sound really good together.IMO whatever auto calibration you run will get things matched well enough .i can't tell they are different series.
  18. I gotta admit ..I had my mind made up on which sub I was gonna upgrade to,,but I started straying from that decision when I read about yours. My wife talked me down though. Oklahoma is getting hit hard, I hope it subsides and they get a chance to recover. I am in Nebraska, ( you made me edit my profile )[:|] Mark

    What I Got Today!

i get to finally get my t.v. off my center and mount it on the wall!! (sorry for the crappy picture) The absolute best thing I got (recently) was news that my youngest son got a Regents scholarship ! ! !
  21. We attended my sons High School graduation yesterday .One of the speakers spent a few minutes mentioning the freedoms we Americans have attained through the sacrifices of our military, It was very nice and very sobering thanks for posting the pics Mark
  22. That's impressive! It looks like the weather is cooperating for your grand opening. Rain equals days of no guilt movie watching! Well done John.
  23. The laptop is a very low priced Toshiba, I doubt it has been built to withstand much. I bought it because it had a fairly large hard drive, it is being used exclusively for storing/streaming music. Putting it on top the sub would have been convenient , but I have other places for it. It doesn't sound like its worth the risk. thanks for the info, guys Mark
