The difference with Nelson and the other audio engineers is he shares some of his knowledge with the electronic audio geeks.

That's totally true! Let me tell you, I purchased a used Firstwatt amp from ebay that made a thunking noise when you turned it on. It was like the noise that happens when you turn on a high current bus, like in a factory but on a much smaller scale. I didn't want to return it because it sounded great. So, I looked on the Firstwatt webpage for some sort of customer service email. There was a single email address and it turned out to be Nelson's personal email address. He graciously explained what he believed may be causing it and was certain it wasn't a problematic issue. Although he encouraged me to send the amps in to the shop to have them checked out under warranty. Talk about being customer service oriented!

I was the first builder of the PP SET amplifier at diyaudio.com. I also am the one who asked Nelson for a SE V-fet design and he agreed to design one. It took a few years but he did produce it. Also I have built the majority of Nelson Pass diy projects including nearly all of the Firstwatt clones. Nelson Pass 74 year old groupie.

If you like the sound of the ACA you would love the sound of the Burning Amp #1 SE amplifier with multiple output devices. https://firstwatt.com/pdf/art_ba1.pdf  The Burning Amp #2 has a lot in common with the Pass Labs amplifiers. Similar to the F4 with an extra output stage if memory is correct with a front end circuit added where it will operate without a high output linestage that the F4 really needs for full output.

Very impressive! I'm a relative newbie to Nelson Pass's designs. I appreciate his work but I'm not even close to a "Nelson Pass groupie". Not that there's anything wrong with that.

  3. I built 2 ACA amp's, set them up as monoblocks with XLR inputs and linear power supplies. They are impressive little amps!

Then I built an F-5, F-6, B1K preamp and finally an Aleph J. They all sound great and are improvements over the ACA's.

I'm currently using two Firstwatt F8's. They sound really good and are definitely an improvement over the Aleph J, which was my favorite of all the DIY boards that I built.

Who knows what a couple of Sit-4's will sound like?

I might have to find out when they become available.

Or you could just enjoy them.  Is this really worth your time?

Greg does really nice work.  It was nice when he was still contributing here.

That's what it's all about isn't it? Good luck if you were in this hobby for the money! Greg Roberts did it.

I have no idea how much profit Greg Roberts makes with Volti Audio. He is still in business?

I did a quick cost analysis on selling my Volti components. I figure I could easily ask for 1/2 of the current list price. Which comes to somewhere in the ballpark of $2300-$2500. Then I'd have to purchase the original K-horn components and determined it's probably not worth all the hassle and it would certainly be a lot more fun just listening to them.

  5. Volti Khorns sound incredible! I own a pair of mid-70's with the Volti wood tractrix horns, BMS mid-range drivers and Beyma cp-25 tweeters. Even the asking price of $12,500.00 isn't so outrageous considering the sound quality, Hawaiian Koa veneer and the current price of KLIPSCHORN AK6 / LA SCALA AL5. Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 Loudspeaker (each) – Upscale Audio  Klipsch La Scala AL5 Loudspeaker (each) – Upscale Audio

Fluoride was a waste product left over from the production of the atomic bomb. Informed consent and nuremberg codes, If everybody knew the true laws of the land ( blacks law dictionary ) then the world would be a much different place. Don't get me started!

Actually, originally it was a byproduct from the aluminum smelting process. The manufactures didn't know what to do with it. Considering it was extremely toxic (as in poisonous ☠️), adding it to the water was the only logical thing to do.

These days there's tons of fluoride that needs to be "safely" disposed of by the fertilizer industry.  So, they employ the old "get rid of the toxic by-product" by putting it in the water trick. Take a minute to read this spot on article:

I have hundreds and hundreds of pics saved to my pc of health and nutrition information. The lies and deception about food in this country are mind boggling.

Take fluoride, most everyone has some knowledge that it is toxic and that it's added to the water. Did you know it's also added to bottled water? Or that it's used in most processed foods; canned goods, soups, juices...

Yes, thinking that a body cannot survive without glucose. Simple sugars as to be found in fruit. No more than it can last without salt. A question of balance and moderation in health matters.

Each person require a diet they can live with with some variation for the individual.

Not all so called diets are for everyone. In general, that is to say.

I hate to go bio-technical but there is a process called gluconeogenesis, which is the process of synthesizing glucose in the body from non-carbohydrate precursors. It is the biosynthesis of new glucose, not derived from the consumption of carbohydrates. Gluconeogenesis occurs in the liver and the kidneys.

Had to read up on this, research shows that 1 in 3 Americans have insulin resistance.  I thought I was good having my glucose levels checked.

The condition (insulin resistance syndrome) is also known by other names including metabolic syndrome, Syndrome X and dysmetabolic syndrome.

Insulin resistance comes LONG before you have adult onset diabetes. I asked specifically for a fasting insulin level test. So far my Doc. has refused to prescribe. I think they are hiding something. There is a lot more money to be made if you get diabetes, so why try to prevent it?

@DMH have you been able to find potassium supp. in greater than 99mg. per pill? Or do you take 40 capsules a day?

All symptoms of diabetes or pre diabetes

That's a good question! I just went over this with my neighbor when he told me he was trying to do ketosis and originated feeling like passing out. I suggested he wasn't getting enough potassium by taking a couple of the 99mg "high dose" capsules. He didn't want to hear that it would take 45 capsules to achieve the RDA.

I add salt and atomic iodine: Electrolyte Powder Lemonade 90 servings | Dr. Berg (drberg.com)

Bananas initially appear to be a good source of potassium at 422mg until you find out they also contain 14 grams of sugar.

It would appear they are hiding something! Or maybe it's just not in the insurance data base protocol. Probably the same reason they won't do ultrasound tests for a fatty liver (you have to find an independent radiologist and pay for it out of your own pocket).

You're doing great if you're not snacking and have eliminated insulin resistance! This is no small feat!

I'm into fat too, that sounds funny! I get the grass-fed omega 3 refined tallow by the tub! No kidding, just like the pre-crisco scam days or before the vegetable "fake fats" came into widespread use. It's true that exhaustion results if you are in ketosis and don't eat a lot of fat. I assume when you say "carbohydrates" you're talking about vegetables?

I'm not answering for Mark. Personally, I know I'm in ketosis because I don't feel like crap, I have energy and I sleep well. It would be impossible for me to have insulin resistance because the diet consists of items that don't cause an insulin reaction. Then there's this: 16 Symptoms of Insulin Resistance (No.6 Scariest) - DrHealthBenefits.com

Another anti-exhaustion nutrient is potassium! It's essential to comfortably staying in ketosis. The adult RDA is 4,700 milligrams per day and most don't even get anywhere near that much. Supplementation is essential because you'd have to consume a bucket or two of salad every day. I used to feel like passing out when I stood up prior to getting enough of the stuff. I'm currently taking at least 4000mg per day of supplemented potassium and getting the rest from food sources.

I'm still at 2 meals per day. I may be here for another couple weeks before switching to OMAD. Now, consider that I was eating 5 times a day, the 2/day has been a revelation. I eat a lot of fats at 4PM and then don't eat ANYTHIING until 10am next morning. The fats makes it very easy to go 18 hours with no hunger signals at all. And, I suspect I'm in ketosis for  about 8 hours a day ( I have no test strips). At 10am, I eat all proteins eggs, meat. Carbs are maybe 20g per day - very low. Sugars = zero. Veg oil = zero.

I feel great - much more "steady and even" that when I used to eat cracker-snacks a couple times a day and they all had that nasty vegetable oil.

I've never had trouble like insulin resistance.

These sort of carbs instantly stops ketosis, man you can just forget about it if you're still consuming this stuff.

And it is a good take! Thanks for the WB.

    1. I began religiously n recording daily weight 3-1/2 years ago. For the five years previous I would only check weight weekly and didn't write it down. IMO, writing it down daily is a fabulous tool, that takes very little time, and provides precious information. I use it to maintain a BMI of 20. The moment I go over target, I can make an immediate correction. You might be the first person I know to be doing this also.

    2. I am limited by two things in how much walking I can do - but I absolutely agree with you and I wish I could walk more.

    3. Gave up brain-killing booze a long, long time ago. I highly restrict carb intake.

Good to hear your thoughts on this!

Earlier in the thread you mentioned you were working up to eating one meal a day (OMAD). I'm curious how easy, or difficult the transition has been for you? Have you worked out any solutions to speed the process along?

How does ketosis and insulin resistance fit into transitioning to eating only one meal a day?
