  1. I have to say i have 2 adcom preamps and 3 adcom amps I use regularly and have had several others. They are made in the usa although they need serviced regularly by a tech that knows what their doing
  2. I'd give it a bit here. I don't sleep for days if i have a noise like that tearing me up sometimes a week if i can't afford or dont know how to fix when it happens. Somebody will chime in and say what it is or is not I took a break halfway thru my reply then Istari replied
  3. I seen you had a replacement and wondered what brand it was. Interesting, I always wondered how the mavins were. I have always used crites for replacements and in some ocassions end up keeping crites in the cabinet after i have a woofer reconed. I have got by for rather long periods of time, at times with matching speaker pairs that have mix matched drivers. This is not optimum. Matching drivers in your fortes being 3way it is best to have the same driver from tweeter, mid and woofer in both speaker cabinets. Another mavin would be best in your case then use the oem as a spare. For $65 another mavin would be best. I gotta pick one of them mavins up sometime to check them out

interesting. iv modded my cabinet size with same cubic ft...the recessed effect is more sufficient and efficient with space id imagine with oem parts. looks textbook. i wonder how it effects as well.
  5. From my experience a buzz is commonly noticed in a mid horn more so than tweeter or woofer. Tweeter is next common in my experience to noticing a hum or buzz due to frequency and rarely i find a hum internally in a speaker cabinet. What is the line up from the power from the wall to your speakers, everything between and then around such as cable tv wires, other electronics etc...a descent power conditioner are you using? Are you powering your amp up last after your pre? This can cause internal issues in both cab and component/s

My exwife as of a yr&a half ago would not had it as well. My fiance now is about there although has helped with my collection. .. . .. Nice setup! The scalas will complete the room. As if it could get better. Lascalas for extra balance is always good. Cant wait for the pics with the new klipsch heritage audio projectors .. . .. looks like plenty of room for them.. ..
  7. I should recant some of my previous reply about the studio jbl's. They have absolutely awsome drivers. Honestly compared to a large percentage of drivers ever produced the jbl l00 and derivitives cabinets are loaded with top notch drivers. I am knowlegable about my testing with meters and ears tests and dont write anything down although rememeber mostly what i hear with my ears. L100 and derivitives are around 90 sensitivity. I gotta repeat the drivers are just amazing and with a good crossover wow these could be some of the finest speakers around. My L166's have a titanium tweeter and very similar to the L100 and still the sound and sensitivity is about parallel. I am more a solid state user at the moment then again with testing the L100 and derivitives on tubes they pull good power for an audiophile and is clean but the crossover is really one of the most unimpressive in audio and listening results are interesting. It just dont make sense considering the amazing jbl/altec drivers, with a nice crossover all these vintage jbl studio derivitives would surely be supreme. The main hurdle i cannot get over are the simple sensitivity specs compared to our klipsch at 95 and about. Even with my favorite speaker the klipsch kg.5 with a lower sensitivity with a descent powered bass driver I am ever so impressed with quality of sound. Bottom line those precious vintage jbl studio drivers and used with a proper network I see these jbl studio derivitives as very high end and well worth the money. Any i want to re-state my comment on aftermarket drivers because i know some are just as good if not better. I would just be careful to those people not sure to do homework on whats inside or out before spending the amounts these jbl monitors are selling for. I have mine in climate controlled storage and insured nonetheless. I really do not see myself selling anytime soon now that i can see there are locals here in the K forums with details i can have somebody build networks worthy enough to install in a cabinet with these good jbl drivers. On my lower to mid quality tube amps i have to have at least 87db sensitivity to hold what i'd call respective, consistant audio levels and sound. With planars in particular as sweet as sound gets i prefer a speaker that can maintain these respective levels consistantly. If the speaker/monitor dont sound good on tubes to me i find it difficult to keep in use. I will change in time as things do yet at this moment in time i cannot get enough of the high sensitivity in the speakers i use. I have about 20 pairs of speakers in my primary audio room now with half as many amplifiers. With the size of the l100's they may find space in here with a good crossover when i have the money of course haha The K forum sure does get the mind gears turning always for the better. Thank you for letting me be a part of this . . .. .
  8. I like my l100's and l166's for the fact i can actually sell them for at least a few hundred dollars if not more. They are a good classic vintage studio monitor with a poor crossover and good drivers. I prefer to look at mine as good to sell or trade to get money or get somthing i want. Its amazing how much they sell for at even the rough times in the economy. With the same amount of money i have to state you can hit a homerun and buy some heresys. Im not saying this because im on the klipsch forum i'm only stating my experience with l100's compared to other speakers at the same pricepoint. l100's sell for over $1k on ebay from time to time. Original drivers are sometimes very hard to find. I have never used a better crossover with mine and wont do it due to the fact they are worth so much to sell on ebay in descent shape however they sit. I have to say the l100 is a monitor for every audiophile to test. When found for a good price you cannot lose money. I'm not so fond of the aftermarket drivers on them as so many l100's have although they often sell at descent pricepoints as well. Moving up the chain to the 4310 and 4311 i believe you have something then. And with a better crossover l100's as well you may have a keeper. My suggestionis to only buy the jbl century l100 if they are $300 u.s. dollars or less. Like so many i have seen no way would i spend over $400 and up unless they were mint with original drivers and/or a receipt and pics of the updated crossovers
  9. Very interesting. You have your homework done for sure. I can compare some very big ar's i owned a while back with 3 7" woofers although were 3 way. Anyhow the bass was astonishing for smaller woofer even compared to my 2 powewred paradigm powered 12's i had at the time. Altogether though even considering the bass was amazing it could never compare to any full range klipsch speaker with 15's. The power of a klipsch 15" low frequency driver is unsurpassed in my experience by any woofer i have heard when properly crossed over and drove. I have a pair of rf7II's in my fiances living room and they sound great although when i put my chorus 2's up against them the 7's cannot do what the chorus2's do. The 15 is the trump card to me. As for 2 or 3 way i have fell in love with some 2 ways and listened to them for weeks without end in stereo, day and night. It is on paper as you have stated although i still have to resort all is in the ears of the beholder. I am more confident with a 3 way klipsch speaker right now which is cw based and i will not change for a very long time. You can put more than 105 watts on a cornwall. a cw seems to shock you when raised to a high level of watts and then becomes smooth in a second or 2. I like to push my speakers at least once to see how they react with a db meter. Depending on the size of room reaching levels of 120 or more can be lovely. I get nervous when doing this to myself although with the proper equipment i would take your cw's to get it done before the 83's. I have not read the specs of the 83's too much although i gotta stop here because im getting too interested in the 83's now myself dang it lol seriously i have to get them off my mind. My fiance will kill me. Not about the money we just have so much equipment at the moment and none for sale. It already led to 1 divorce and now i really love this one i have. Its all your preference. You can read specs all day. Equipment is key. Get a good eq. I have tried as many eq's and electronic crossovers as amps and tubes in the amps. The preamp it key as well as the cables. what works for 1 speaker does not as do as much for the other and vice-versa. I know i could live with your cw's and im not so sure about the 83's. Just from my experience. But then again its you and it sounds like your a reference man or gonna try it out .. . .. .. . If your cw's were black i would be interested lol
  10. I have not heard the 83's so i cant make a direct comparison. I have heard 82's and have rf7's and heard plus owned several cornwalls. With the crites upgrades and considering your cw's are in good shape i would say its preference between the 83&cw. With all my speakers i run them through tube and solid state, big&small amps to test to see what i would prefer. The hassle alone of trading and or selling might hurt as much as anything to me. I would not trade cornwalls for rf83's myself unless i truly fealt the 83's are better and you stated you liked them so i would not hesitate. Sounds like your possibly a reference person. Checking everything out is what the klipsch sport is about as i feel so move on although i suggest using every amp you can now because 1964 cw's can be tough to find(then have to refinish them)and its good to have experience. I only stated my thought process on your topic. good luck! Interesting switch of speakers although common. they are both very comparable. With your crites upgrades i would say they are both an equal 100 sensitivety. Amp would prove a major factor. neither are better than the other to most...its all in your ears is what matters
  11. I put this in the WoW thread. great job on the work you done. I havnt learned how to post pics yet although im sure theres a place here explaining. Anyhow a trader rating for trades and sales done in the garage/for sale threads of this forum would be nice. once again nice job changing the system. very nice indeed
  12. The klipsch forum is a great place in the high end audio world. It was then and now even better. Very well done to all who contributed their time to rebuild. It was worth the patience. Will there be a trader rating added for people making sales and trading items on the garage/for sale section of the forum? Easily I rate the new klipsch forum 5 stars. Very clean, a smooth easy to navigate online audio paradise!
  13. They do love watts. You just nailed why im stuck on my crown at 440wattsx2 @8ohms with a mid level adcom pre and i have several crown macro techs and rotel and adcom blocks but every day im home im jammimg whats in my sig. I would buy any black pair within reach that i can find and im gonna go ahead and buy oak if i have too...klipsch chorus are just the best, even in bone stock form and then feed them watts. Without doubt my chorus will be in my go to systems forever. I wouldnt trade r sell mine for nothing i love the pair i have .. . .. . the purchuse of my cw's again soon are for surround use. there's not room for chorus on either side or in back of my 7.1 at the moment. They sound great on tubes too, even biamped tube on horns ss on the 15's. Big watts trump. A freind of mine has his on 2 tube mono blocks at 175watts each. Speechless is all i can say. There are very limited amounts of the crown tube blocks so im not even trying to obtain, maybe someday my luck will hit a pair . .. . ..
  14. Very nice my friend. Klipsch wise i have owned everything xept klipschorns. I simply havnt had the room. I have a very nice pair of black belles that dont fit anywhere in my home although will keep them with my collection til my days end assume. Bob Crites is my go to guy for anything klipsch. I have spent over $1k in the past 6 months with him which is when i began using his services. You will notice an good sound reproducing difference with everything he does to anything. With a line up such as your high end monitor list i would be interested in seeing how you fare with the cw. Between the cw and chorus 2 i have found my preference in audio without doubt. I also own a nice array of jbl pro and studio monitors. It is nice to see you are making a lateral movement in sound as i see your change in quality speakers. Probably nice for you to have a break from speakers worth as much as a car for a while!
  15. wow lol that is how i feel or what im doing right now haha sounds crazy tho[] I gotta say tho shakeydeal, im looking to invest in more audio and have went frrom focals to b&w to planars and i keep coming back to cornwalls. I had a pair and were the second pair of klipsch i had and its either gonna be cw's or cornscalas. I may go with another pair of chorus 2's although i need somthing a bit thinner
  16. I cannot agree enough although im running my crown on my chorus 2's at the moment and just cannot get enouph. I do have some pro klipsch 2502c's(pro heresys)with a db rating of 103 on my modded yaqin 10L at the moment to get my tube fix too yet the crown setup is my main stereo. Gotta say tho my yaqin sounds better. Yet again this crown sounds good right now
  17. In the very near future for me as these were waiting for me when I got home today! Next 5 days off is going to be fun. Just thought I keep in this thread Nice pics! heresy over quartets i gotta say. definately with crites components. I would have to take the quartets over my h3's as well. basically due to price alone. The heresy3 may sound a bit better and have bi wire 5 ways although the sound is so close lower price trumps. and a bit weathier bass output. With crites components the quartets easily. I love them black ones on page 1! My quartets were oak with green grilles so i had to sell till i find a black pair i can afford that are close for pic-up .. . .. .
  18. I may take your idea and look for at least a 5 ch amp from emotiva as i downsize for my move. the xp-5 looks better than perfect. very interesting
  19. I agree with this statement totally although my rf7's are running on 200 watt adcom 565 monoblocks. Im running my chorus ii's with my crown xls2500 at near full gain at 440 watts at 8ohms. 100-150watts is more than plenty to push reference speakers. When you push a klipsch 15 it can use a bit more power to move it. Dont get me wrong the efficiency in large klipsch heritage models run rather well such as my belles on a 12x2 vacuum tube amp Ever thought they have high sensitivity and output, Something 150-200 watts should be good due to the larger woofer. I don't own any Heritage speakers so, wait too see if some of the Heritage ower will chime in on the thread.
  20. I'v had a couple heathkit tube amps as well as others and a scott sounds like the ticket. "Big" scott amp means i have no choice i have to visit. I would like to wait a few months then try to buy your amp lol maybe you will be ready to try somthing new christmas time or for the new year. I love big cities at christmas time and havnt seen new york in years in the winter. man, i have had some focal speakers at 1 time. they must not be the real focal. maybe focul lol idk. I have ran through infinitys, jbls, boston acoustics, dcm, advents and too many other flagship speakers im sure you and everybody knows the drill...till i met a true 3rd generation audiophile who told me straight up get all klipsch and i wasnt new to klisch although not to anything other than kg.5's basically and they were what i always resorted back to. now i understand...i have to say with the klipsch design there has to be an amazing aftermarket monitor built off this forum that grows on the ear...The cornscala 3 way. A Scott amp is what i need. the guy that pushed me into klipsch had 2 crown tube monoblocks rated 175watts each. iv been trying to figure out what they were. I might have to dig out my old phone to ask him personally. he was running stock chorus 2's
  21. Yeah wow...i never used it when i was with my ex wife although her middle name was diana lol dont tell my beautiful fiance though cause im not in my ex what so ever...im originally a buckeye whos supposed to have eyes on all the bucks, money or 8 pointer its an ohio mans choice, and a pot leaf heading up the state...so now im living with all the hillbillies that didnt have enough money to get to michigan, a hoosier...at least thats what i was told haha.
  22. Im in ft wayne indiana. were moving close to indy around noblesville in anderson. You are also more than welcome here. I will pay your your hotel...were 5 minutes from the airport here and must say I really own and use everything listed in my system profile. I have lazers and mixers as well as recording equipment as well i must ad which is some of the $10k i have spent on audio in the past years time...i know from guitar center alone im at about $4000 in 10 months....Anyhow I got to thinking and i just sent my daughter to ny with some freinds of ours who are originally from nyc. anyhow they went to the phantom of the opera showing and my fiance now who is 25 has never been to nyc area nor a broadway performance...what im getting at here is i may take you up on a visit in the next few months for a hear of your cornscalas. I would definately prefer waiting til you get your amp back from nos. I really have been picturing a getaway rolling through your area and once again ironic you allow me to hear heaven. My fiance and i in the past 2 months have been to wv, tenn, chicago and mich multiple times buying audio equipment. I would love to find something in your area i could pic up off clist or you could show me a great audio store. The local stores here are lame. Classic stereo and well ya walk in there he'll hook up some up to date paradigms with a new crazy priced bassdriver and it honestly sounds absolutely horrible. i might be over inviting ourselves for a listen and hope not...i really appreciate the guidence from a forum member who has been down the path im on now..
  23. I believe every word you said so im onboard here. You answered my next thought about the 3 way cornscala. I also appreciate the invite to hear heaven. I have heard a lot of speakers from the $50k on an over 100lb conrad johnson amp and im totally engulfed in my own radios compared, by a long shot. I have used custom cabs and built custom speakers with my preference of crossover although i know with freinds i have i can obtain very good drivers and build under retail about a $4 or 5k cornscala for way less. I have spent at least $10k out of my pocket in the last year alone on audio so im not afraid to spend more because im going to. I have spent at least $500 with bob crites alone in the last 2 months. I may get in touch with him and build a pair. As i move at the moment...and arrive at my new home by the beginning of the year i am going to put together a 2 ch system and its gotta be different than anything i have ever seen or heard of. I have the conclusion im gathering ideas for the next several months to get to what i want. The cornscala is definately the right direction. And it sure will be tube driven and all derived from this website. Im 36 so it also has to last another 36 yrs i figure. Im aiming to begin in approximately january. Maybe a good idea would be for me to begin a thread here or just go through what i read. I just want to get it right once not after a few tries. Thank you for filling my mind. You have ironically because of my interest in klipsch and the website helped me with the 2 most important aspects of my custom 2ch tube radio build.
  24. I guess I could drive to Texas so I can legally drive 85 mph Can you really. Im guessing your joshing me here lol
