  1. Don't need no stinkin' AVR. Unless one likes the different audio effects and auto room correction stuff. The 105 does everything I need it to do and more. I just need to get the stuff to make REW work and I'll be good.
  2. So you use the hdmi for video, and the 5 or 7 analog outputs directly to your amp. When you say amp you mean like separates right not a receiver. If so I take it that the Oppo does all the audio processing, so you could just run the hdmi for video to a projector and the analog outs to your separates which gives you the best optimal sound. Yes. I send video to my TV via HDMI and analog audio directly to my amp. Amp as in stand alone. No Preamp/Processor/Integrated. RCA cables hooked into my ATI amp. That's correct. I get 1080p for video and 3.1 (till I get surrounds and another sub, then 5.2) analog audio processed by my 105.
  3. With my OPPO 105, I have a choice to downmix my analog output to 5.1. I am sure you guys are using AVR's. There should be a setting in a Menu someplace to downmix to 5.1 so you don't miss any of the audio parts.
  4. The video section of the 103/105 is the same. People who use the HDMI Out from the OPPO get a 103. The major difference between the 2 is that the 105 has a very robust analog section. I have my 105 hooked directly to my amp via analog connections.
  5. +1 on this cable. They are very thin, and can make very long runs. I have a 75' one and have had no troubles. +1 and +1 I have these and they are great! Inexpensive, ultra slim, great value. Or, you can take out a second mortgage and get some Audioquests. They're perty.
  6. From the ad: For your consideration is a handsome pair of Klipsch La Scalas in natural birch finish. Grain is very nice. These have consecutive serial numbers in excellent condition with all original components, including K-33-E woofers, K-55-V mids, and K-77 tweeters. This vintage pair is in GREAT condition and is ready to go for years to come. Absolutely one of the finest speaker designs to ever come out of the Hope, AR factory. http://rochester.craigslist.org/ele/3973869644.html No Affiliation. LSBR VIRGINS!!! Unstained!
  7. The shipping and "handling and preperation" for these makes it a deal killer, IMO.
  8. A handshake is when 2 components are hooked together, let's say, with an HDMI cable. There are other components which perform handshakes, also. The handshake will be when the receiving component says "Hey, I am this component and I am expecting this type of protocol." HDMI protocol in this case. Then the sending component says "OK, I will send you this type of protocol." Which will be HDMI audio and video. It's a communication between the components to make sure they are on "the same page" with the protocol. I hope I didn't confuse you too much. Hooking up your BDP to your AVR with an HDMI cable is the best for you. Optical cable has limited bandwidth for the more advanced audio options.
  9. Thnx, Mark, for the info. Looks promising in my situation.
  10. I have the same problem, another way. I want to split off the cable box to the TV and my BDP. To the TV so my gf doesn't have to push "8" buttons to make the TV work. To the BDP for when I watch TV/Movies/etc. I'm thinking there will be major handshaking problems with a Y splitter. However, I'm no expert on HDMI cabling. Will be interesting to hear from an expert on the situation.
  11. From the ad: PAIR OF KLIPSCH REAR FIRING QUARTET SPEAKERS...SUPERB SOUND...VERY HEAVY WOOD CABINETS...THIS IS A DEAL...I ALSO HAVE A YAMAHA RECEIVER FOR SALE. http://elmira.craigslist.org/ele/3972601829.html No Affiliation. RUN TO THESE! Oak Oil!!!
  12. Congrats and welcome to the 105 club. You won't be disappointed. It's real easy to set up...if you have a EE degree! [:|] If you have a question, just ask. Least we can do for you is laugh. []
  13. Like in my Jeep, whenever something broke, I upgraded to better parts. I agree with Derrick, time for a new and better sub.
  14. Good deal. Glad I could be of help to you. Just make sure you disconnect and reconnect the wires to the proper polarity. Don't want to be getting new posts from you stating "No bass from sub." []
  15. From the ad: Pair of Klipsch Hersey floor speakers with consecutive serial numbers, 170Y966 & 170Y967. I figure early 1980's. Cabinets are a little rough with some chips and separation in the veneer. Also some fading and wear in the finish. Speakers sound good with no rips or holes in the cones. I hooked the set up to my stereo, I am not an audiophile but they sound good to me. Grills good with emblems. Pick up and cash only. http://rochester.craigslist.org/ele/3967022116.html No Affiliation
  16. Far from a straight face. I knew what I was doing. I knew what she was doing. I was just smiling at the husband.
  17. I would start by calling Klipsch. Klipsch Technical and Warranty Support Toll Free: 1-800-KLIPSCH (1-800-554-7724) Mon - Fri, 8AM - 5PM ET E-mail: support@klipsch.com
  18. Spades are OK for speaker cable terminations. Just make sure you get the right ones for the gauge of the wire and the size of the terminal blocks at the speaker and the amp.
  19. I did that to a girl on my Harley. Kicker was that her husband was standing right in front of me. Thank goodness I was wearing my leather jacket...she sank her claws into my side!
  20. I had an audible hiss before I upgraded. Got rid of my pre/pro and now my system is dead quiet.
  21. From the ad: Hello, I am selling my pair Klipsch speakers that I have owned for about 3yrs. I used them for about 6 months then sold my home. I moved back in with my parents 2yrs ago and have not used them since. They are in near mint condition with only one small flaw. There is a tiny hole in one of the grilles. This can not be seen unless you look for it. I am selling these at a very reasonable price considering that brand new, they are retailing for almost $1000. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking:) Tony http://buffalo.craigslist.org/ele/3965837404.html No Affiliation
  22. That sux. Hopefully, it won't take loing to back it back in tip-top shape.
  23. It does look like an Academy. The KG 2.2V's are not as tall.
  24. There's a single RF-7 for sale by me for $299.
