  1. I cut the cable a couple years ago and college football went with it, as most bowl games are on ESPN. I watch college football during the regular season, then I switch to the NFL for the playoffs.
  2. I bought my truck new 11 years ago and it has 51,000 miles on it. My wife can't drive it because it's a stick shift, and I like to bike so it has very low miles. I don't really like to drive anymore unless it's really snowy.
  3. I make my own ketchup. I don't keep recipes so it is a little different every time, but always better than what you can buy.
  4. Congratulations on your anniversary! I hope you have many more. Miles
  5. Congrats that is great news! I hope you have a long and happy life together. My wife and I celebrated 20yrs last week. Time slips by so fast it seems like yesterday, enjoy every day.
  6. Excellent! Reminds me of Sokol gymnastics back in the 70's.
  7. I suspect this thread touches many lives here. My brother is currently in detox/treatment for alcohol and xanax. I thought I was going to lose him for sure, just like we lost my dad to alcohol and suicide. He hit rock bottom three weeks ago, waking up in a hospital in restraints, not remembering anything how he got there. The police report said he was found wandering outside wearing nothing but a t-shirt. I just got off the phone with him, three weeks into treatment and he sounds great. His blood pressure is back under control. He mentioned that most of the other patients there are fighting narcotic and benzo addictions.
  8. I missed this one, and I'm in Omaha
  9. That was a decent thing for you to give them the news yourself. The oil worker layoffs have been in the news lately, you've just put a face on it. I know your pain, the health care industry is going through some adjustments too. My hospital was recently acquired by a big player in the U.S. health care racket, and I've lost many friends and coworkers to layoffs.
  10. Interesting posts to read. I had "anesthesia awareness" during a surgery years ago. I remembered voices, a buzzing sound like a barber's clippers, and the smell of burnt flesh. My surgeon believed me after I told him, he used a cautery device that made a loud buzzing noise. I also remembered someone laughing, it turned out to be a nurse laughing at one of his jokes. It still bothers me and I'm afraid to go under anesthesia/sedation ever again.
  11. I'm so sorry, and he will be missed by many here. Losing your dad is a hurt many of us understand.
  12. Mine is a great pianist I knew growing up in the 60's-70's. Bill Evans was a friend of my dad's and he wrote a song for my grandma, Knit for Mary F.
  13. Some of the newer CD's are too bright and compressed, particularly in rock I've noticed. I have CD's purchased back in the 80's that sound better than the newer ones. My son recently bought a new Yes Album CD, remastered, and it doesn't sound as good as the one I bought 25 years ago. It is sad what they have done to the format, no wonder vinyl is making a comeback. SACD's sound great but are a bit expensive.
  14. Helen Humes "Songs I like to Sing" sounds incredible, comes off a clean master. Nancy Wilson, Abby Lincoln, Flora Purim, Helen Merrill, June Christy, Annie Ross, Astrud Gilberto, Blossom Dearie besides those named above. I enjoy them all. Check out some Big Mama Thornton videos on youtube sometime.
  15. Horrible way to lose someone close to you, to see them so defeated. I lost my dad to suicide, a long time ago.
  16. When I was shopping for a new system 20yrs ago, my Bose-owning friend went with me to audition speakers. He had the salesman put up the Bose first, then Advent, JBL and a few others until the last speakers we heard were Klipsch Epics. We both agreed the Epics blew everything else away and that is what I bought. Best part of the story: He ditched his Bose a couple years later and bought some KG's, so not all Bose fans are without hope.
  17. I'm fortunate to live near http://beercornerusa.com/beertopia/, one of the best beer stores in the country. Enjoying a Tank farmhouse ale right now.
  18. Great thread topic. I manage a medical records dept. for a large hospital. My wife is the administrator for a group of orthopaedic surgeons, and she doesn't put anything on my speakers.
  19. Just met this guy at the ice cream shop. He was very nice to everyone.
  20. My brother took me to see AC/DC back in the 70's. I'm lucky they didn't blow my eardrums, it was a very loud concert.
  21. I have two 2 channel systems, love 'em both. I like music that way.
