  1. Just read through this thread on my phone so excuse me if this is off topic...,

have any of you heard the new Sophia electric el-34 tube? I think they came out about a year ago I read a promising review upon release but haven’t anything since.

I pushed the speakers back closer to the wall/corners. Who knew Klipsch speakers would sound good positioned that way? That has resolved the bass issue and has brought other benefits. Namely, it has broadened the sound stage to take up the entire space between the speakers (much larger/wider), and has tamed the intensity of the horns compared to before. This has resulted in a more life like presentation on a larger variety of recordings -- instead of the best of the best. Overall, very pleased. I don't think I have ever heard speakers that can make music, particularly voices and acoustic music, (small classical, jazz, and folk ensembles) sound so present. Indeed, I think the key feature I am enjoying the most in the speakers is the dramatic dynamic range -- I like I already mentioned above, and still can't quite get over. It is thrilling to hear and experience swings in the energy/loudness of the music as a song ebbs and flows -- especially at lower listening volumes. For me, to sum up the past few days listening to Klipsch speakers, what they do better than everyone else, is allowing you to be present with the music, can't ask for much more than that.

HAHA Im glad to see that you positioned them in this way... I was going to suggest that but thought you'd get around to it on our own. Glad you did and you're enjoying them. Have fun.

  3. Personally, I'd punt the rx-v530 before I bought other speakers.

My amp journey with my cornwalls was, I started with a mid level Yammy receiver, upgraded to another Yammy receiver, followed by a Adcom 2535 with a Emotiva ump - 1 next came a SE tube amp. Each step there was noticeable differences.

Good luck chasing the dragon, enjoy.

In my opinion Hersey's would be the wrong move based on what you are describing.

  4. Seems to me the biggest thing to consider is the size of the room and where you'll be able to place the speakers.

The obvious choice would be Khorns. If that isn't an option RF-83's, RF-7, forte, Chorus, Cornwalls or KLF-30's would all be respectable candidates. Palladiums, should one have the means would be a very worthy consideration.

Driving up Thursday to demo them with my Audion Sterling integrated amp, and as long as the amp pairs well with the speakers it looks like I’ll be going home with them.

Somewhat tangential for this thread, but does anyone have experience pairing Klipschorns with Audion gear? I currently have some Cornwall IIIs that work nicely with this amp. My Audion puts out 8 watts per channel. I think this should be sufficient power for the speakers, but since this will be my first time looking at Klipschorns I thought it couldn’t hurt to get input from other Khorn owners who may be using low watt amps. I really don’t want to have to upgrade my amp right now, and if this isn’t  going to be a good fit it’d be best to know before I drive 7 hours round trip and waste the seller’s time.

I have the sterling EL34 and have been really happy with the combo... on both my Cornwalls and Khorns

  6. Like shakey, I wish I had waited.... I spent what the seller is asking on a pair that were in worse cosmetic condition, the crossovers were corroded, they needed new tweeters and had mismatched woofers. Essentially I bought cabinets and rebuilt all the electronics and components. They do sound great now:)

I'm about an hour from Milwaukee depending on where ( I made it to the Brewers stadium in just over an hour with game traffic). They will fit in my truck, storing will be a problem, I am out of room. But I can get them to NW Indiana if anyone there can hold them or move them farther east

I have room to store them at my studio in the city if you grab them. I'd be happy to do so, no problem.
