OK I read about it and now know the difference. The size is exactly the same, the difference is the 556 is a hotter round and not all 223's can shoot them.But it is the other way around, a 556 can use a 223 because it's less powerful.
And just the opposite for .308 Vs. 7.62mm NATO.-

The Colts are designed for 5.56mm NATO. Barrel stamped C MP 5.56mm NATO 1/7.
This was the reason for adoption of the M16A2.

Wuhan virus finished off my aunt, the nursing home gave her a roommate who was already down with the Wu-flu.
I’ll miss talking with her; she was my last connection to my grandparents, & great grandparents.
She was young. Only 96.
