  1. Well........ I finally took some time and realized that I wasn't scrolling down far enough on the "listening mode" page of the Onkyo 1010, to even see the menu for setting the DSX for when using the "network" as the source ...... so it was just my being a dim-wad on that one!! Once set, it really added width to the sound stage. Also, I had a younger friend drop by, and I pressed him to see if he thought I had the the EQ set too bright. He said it sounded awesome to him, so I was happy to see that I didn't go too far to comp for my wife's and mine hearing (maybe it's not as bad as I thought). Another Klipsch owner suggested I that I toe-in the 7's enough so that the horn throats where not completely hiding the driver disks at any of the seating positions. So I gave that a try and am impressed by how much of a difference that has made in stage definition, increased subtleties and clarity .......... especially at the outside seating positions.I would have 'never' guessed that a slight repositioning would make such a large and positive difference. As I had posted above, I was certainly happy with the sound, but was concerned with how far I might be going beyond "normal" high end EQ to get there. It's reassuring to know that younger ears don't feel it's too bright (and I'll have some other confirmation on that this weekend) but the application of the DSX, and especially just something as simple as toeing the 7's in a bit, has made such a large difference, really surprises me. Now I am totally amazed by how it sounds! ........ and very happy to realize that what we attributed to poor hearing of dialog (center channel) was evidently more the limits of the old HK AVR645 and/or Bose AMs, than a large drop in our ear's high freq. abilities. Mr. and Mrs. Flyer are very happy campers!!
  2. Thanks for the kind words guys. As far as the sound, there is a bit of a back story here ....... My wife and I are both in our 60's, and this whole project started with the need to replace our aging and dead 73" Mits DLP TV (LVPS died after a power outage) and we 'finally' decided get something that would be better at dialog (especially with our aging hearing) than the Harmon Kardon AVR645, and one Bose Acustomass 7s and two 5's system, that we have been using for ~ the past 20 years. So, it really started out to be a new/replacement TV and better center channel. Well, that plan didn't last much past doing a few Google searches. So to answer the question .... it sounds 'really' good, and we can once again clearly hear the center channel dialog! But ...... I'm going through the process of becoming familiar with the Onkyo, and am doing the final tweaking myself, as I didn't like the Audyssey set-up at all. It was just too lackluster with no top end. At our age we both suffer from high frequency hearing loss so that's probably at least part of the Audyssey "not making the grade". And I'm sure I'm probably adjusting things to the bright side to compensate for our aging hearing (which is the reason for the Onkyo 1010 and Klipsch). So although it all sounds fantastic to us, I'm not sure if younger ears wouldn't find it a bit bright. Now I need to sit down and go through the Onkyo manual a bit better .... or see if I can pick the brains on an Onkyo forum. I'm having trouble finding out how to apply DSX to the music I get by using my PC as a server on our home network, or any of the internet music services.
  3. Yeah, I saw this on eBay. It's all in perfect working condition, with all the cases, manuals, maintenence kit and other accessories, as well as a few vintage movies (Dracula, Larual and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, and etc, as well as a few (now days) ''totally' politically incorrect cartoons. I thought it would add some ambiance .... old tech vs new sort of thing. It's a Revere model 80 projector and model 88 camera, in 8mm ...... circa late '30's/early 40's.
  4. Well, it's almost complete now. The TV is a Sharp 90" LC-90LE745U on a Monoprice articulated wall mount. Klipsch speakers consisting of: 2 RF-7II mains 2 RF-82II wides 1 RC-64 center 2 RS-62II surrounds 4 RW-12D subs An Onkyo TX-NR1010 as a pre-pro feeding the surrounds An Emotiva XPA-5 feeding the mains, wides, and center. A Panasonic DMP-BDT500 BD player DTV DVR 2 Buttkicker 1000-A amps, and 4 Buttkicker LFE transducers under the seating. And a PS3 I might add heights if I can convince my wife that poking more holes in the walls will not take me as long as this project did. The whole system is right at 6680 watts ....... RMS!! (although 5400 of those watts are the subs and Buttkickers) Anyway ..... here's some pictures: Covers on ...... And here's a picture of my old "pre-Kilpsch" Home Theater system ........
  5. Yes, I served with JUSMAG (Joint US Military Advisory Group) training Laotian and Cambodian military during Viet Nam However, the swords came along much later via an estate sale. []
  6. The rest of my speakers finally got here. I know the subs might not be on par with the rest of these speakers, but we've been pretty happy with a 10" 100W MTX SW1 at half volume, so I think/hope the dual SW-12Ds will be fine for us. I need to decide on either an XPA-5 or going with an XPR-5 (and running a 20 amp circuit for it) to back up the new Onkyo NR-TX1010 (use it for a pre-pro). Not sure yet if I'll run heights or rears ....... once/if I decide on either I'll go with a pair of RB-81 or 61IIs. I also got a 300lb rated MonoPrice wall mount for the Sharp 90" LED/LCD TV, so ......... I have my work cut out for now. [] Here's a couple of pic's. of what my wife is calling "the warehouse that I turned the room ont" (she's not real happy [:@] cuz I'm old and have a tendancy to take my time on these projects) []
  7. Thanks for all the kind words guys. I fixed the sizing on the pictures (sorry about that) and when I checked this AM I see my RS-62IIs are to be delivered today with the RW12D's due tomorrow. I'm hoping to get tracking numbers for the RF-7II's today, and delivery of them next week. I've been using an old 100 watt MTX 10" sub with the Bose AM systems. And I also just switched from two Buttkicker mini-wireless systems, to two 1000/1900 watt Buttkicker amps and 4 BK-LFE transducers (two each per amp in parallel) under the seating. For me, I find the the Buttkickers do best with a level set to about 1/3, high cut on, low cut off and the cross-over set at about 55 hz .......... or you just bounce about at every gun shot and bass pluck. But yeah ....... I'm guessing that with the dual 12D's there should be a much improved bottom overall.
  8. Thanks for the welcome guys. Yep ... it's good to be back! [8-|] Here are some pic's of what I've got so far ..... The Sharp 90 with the RC-64II slid into a shelf in the Bella cabinet I had my old 73" Mitsubishi DLP on. Here's a shot of the new Onkyo 1010 sitting on my coffee table, ready to replace the HK645 in my equip cabinet. You can see the empty box that the 64 came in, and 2 boxes with the RF-82II's in them. I'll get my RS-62II's tomorrow if the FedEx tracking page is correct ........ my RW12D's should show up Sat. or Mon. I just bought the RF-7II's today, and expect to get the tracking numbers tomorrow. Hopefully they will be here next week.
  9. If I've been able to get any track an anything over the years it's that no one has the best system, but everyone has the best system for them, with most having a better system than the one before it. And I'd bet real money each person enjoys/enjoyed the poo-poo out of each of those systems.
  10. As a new member and re-convert back to Klipsch, I would like to say hello to you all ..... and that sometmes bad things can turn out to be good things! Point in case .......... After my old 73" Mitsubishi DLP recently decided to present me with the green blinking light of death after a power failure this past Feb, I decided to replace it with one of Sharp's new LC-90LE745U 90" LED/LCD AQUOS models ...... and that started the home theater "upgrade ball" rolling ....... My old Harmon Kardon AVR645 was replaced with a new Onkyo TX-NR1010, and then I started looking for new speakers to replace the Bose AM 7 and 5's that I have been using for the past ~20 years. Bose gets a lot of bad press, and I can certainly understand why, but these have served us well considering how well theysounded for their size, and made my wife happy because they blend into the decor well, being so small and unobtrusive. But we are retired now and have moved to the Sierras in a more open designed home, and have both the room size and space between neighbors to go .... bigger! Also, as we have gotten older both my wife and I have been struggling to hear dialog on the center channel, especially when there is any other background sound on the center. It's been to the point of us passing on a lot of Netflix streaming movies because of that fact. So .... I decided to 'specifically' look for a center that would help with that particular issue, and a newer AVR to replace the aging HK. Although the RC-64II was a no-brainer, I sort of had a "false start ........... 5 yards, play the down again" and initially ordered a pair of FL-82II's and the 64II, but then decided (while the 82's were in transit) to go ahead and get the RF-7II's ......... so rather than send the 82's back and take the shipping and restocking hit, the 82's will have to serve as wides (via DSX in the Onkyo). They're probably overkill for the wides, but I managed to get them for just a bit more than the MAP price for a set of RB-81II's, although admittedly I'm sure I could have found a similar reduction on the 81's as well. I also got a pair of RS-62's and two each of the RW12D's. I'll use an old set of Bose 101 monitors for the rears or heights (once I decide which I prefer) and drive them with an old Pioneer elite, off the Onkyo's 9.2 pre-outs. If I feel I am getting anything of real value from the rears or heights, I'll replace the 101's with a set of RB-XX's (not sure which ones at this time) but I may just go 7.2 and just the wides with no rears at all. So far I only have the TV set-up and the RC-64II running off the HK645. But ...... just swapping out the old Bose AM's center with the 64 has cleared up the center channel dialog to where we can now 'easily' hear voice that was otherwise garbled and/or lost in center channel background. So we are 'very' happy with what has arrived so far ......... and really looking forward to receiving it all and getting it hooked up!! Many years ago I had a set of Heresy II or III's (can't remember which) and I was running the original SAE pre/power and parametric eq. gear, with a DBX-3BX as well as a 4 Yamaha amps and 4 stacked Advents. My brother called it the "wall of Voodoo" (after a band of that area). As my new Klipsch speakers are now starting to show up, I can see that there has been a lot of change over the past few decades, and it appears (so far) that I'm probably going to be glad to be back home with Klipsch .... which I have preemptively named "Wall of Voodoo , Part Duex"!!! []
  11. Congratulations on your new set-up. I hope your neighbors respond by bringing the pop-corn and snacks!! I'm also brand new here!! Opps ....... I had written a bunch of other stuff about what I just bought tht was similar to your purchase, and then I realized I was walking all over your thread, so I've deleated here on edit. In any case ......... I hope you have 'man'y years of enjoyment ....... both with your family and the neighbors, experiencing your new system!!
