  1. I have watched this tread ramble on and on, how did a post that started out asking about the difference in 2 sets of speakerwires turn into this .I thought when I posted this tread I would get some debates about wires and how they don’t make a difference and to some that may be true, but to my ears I can tell a difference at least I can in my system.Call me crazy (my wife does)I enjoy trying different amps, Int amps, preamps and sources.I mean no offense to anyone posting and it has been fun to see what someone is going to write next. When my hiend Audio friends ask me what type of speakers I listen to and I tell them Klipschorns, they respond almost in shock KLIPSCHORNS!!!!, then I have them come by for a listen and once they do they are usually shocked. Now to get back on track, I really love the sound I am getting with my Western Electric wires.
  2. I may be a little off topic here, but below is a picture of my Klipschorns upgrades with the Western Electric wires and other upgrades that to me takes a great speakers and takes it to the next level.
  3. Joe, looks nice and I have been playing with the Aric Audio amp today ,I put a pair of Telefunken 12at7 tubes in the amp and they really matched up well with the amp.I was getting ready to list it for sale.I can’t play everything, but after today I may hold off on trying to sell it.
  4. On the tube it reads ecc81/12at7 made in western Germany with Telefunken logo on the tubes
  5. Matched pair of Telefunken 12at7 tubes from tube seller Brent Jesse, these have been sitting in my closet and it is time for someone to enjoy them,I have been playing in an amp this morning and they sound great.100.00 for the pair plus shipping.I tried loading the picture and I was not able to load them. They have the boxes from Brent Jesse with specs and stating diamond mark on bottom and matched pair.
  6. I just got home from a mini vacation and I have been playing my system with the western electric wires and changes made to the tophats and the change is remarkable, the soundstage is wider and the bass is the best I have had .Now to try and enjoy what I have before I start trying to find away to make it better.I think that is one of the fault many of us have with our system,we get it to sounding great and then start trying to find away to make it better and then we are back to where we were.
  7. I am not sure about the weight,my wife and I can pick it up to move it so my guess a little over 100 lbs.Maybe someone on the forum can help out with the actual weight.I want to sell it before December,I am trying to downsize my second system.
  8. Bruce, the subwoofer has the k-49 18” woofer that is 4 ohm and 400 watt
  9. Oops looks like you’re hooked , I am glad you are enjoying the reel to reel and the tapes.I have met some nice people on this forum and all of my dealings with members have been nothing but positive.Joe enjoy your deckand tapes, thanks again .
  10. I have installed the NOS Western Electric 14ga wire in speakers, crossovers, tweeters, mids and woofers I can tell a difference. My cost was a 1.54 a foot and money well spent.Everyone has different opinions on cables, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is what works best in your system and how each move we make helps our system.
  11. Well 2 options are all I can handle,I kept buying a piece here a piece there to mod my Klipschorns.I had a pair of one owner mfg in 1980 that I thought was too nice to mod,so I bought a pair of already modded Klipschorns on this forum and that got me hooked. So I sold my 1980 pair and was looking for a pair to mod when the pair of ribbon mahogany Klipschorns popped up on this site and I bought them and again I thought they were too nice to mod,but after using them for 2 months I decided to rewire and mod them ,I can always put them back if I decide to sell them, with the Volti horn and the above mods the speakers sound great.I don’t know where people get the idea that Klipschorns don’t have good bass. The bass with this pair using Primaluna Prologue Premium amp and preamp is deep with no distortion.
  12. I finished the mods on my Klipschorns,I have B&C DCM -50 mids,B&C de120-8 with fastrac horns, alk Cornscala crossovers ,Volti horns ,and western electric 14ga wires.I will play the speakers with these mods for a couple of weeks and then I will then switch out for Volti crossovers vtk-400’s,bms4592nd mids and Beyma cp-25 tweeters and see which one I like the best.Maybe after this I can leave things alone and focus on listening to my system.I doubt it because I am always trying different amps, preamps and speakers. How do you get doff the merry go round.Joe if you figure it out let me know
  13. I am getting ready to upgrade a pair of Klipschorns with 2” tractrix horns, bms 4592nd mids, beyma cp-25 tweeters and ALK crossovers and I was going to upgrade wires. In the past I have used 14ga speaker wires and I was thinking of trying vintage 14ga western electric or new Duelund wires, both of those can get expensive .Has anyone tried the 2

  15. When doing the complete mods on the Klipschorns with 2” tractrix horns, bms4592nd mids and beyma cp-25 tweeters, has anyone upgraded the wires to duelund or western electric wires.I have Volti horns,vtk-400 crossovers with the mids and tweeters and I was wondering if changing the wires would make a difference.

  17. Pictures of the back without the top to show the horn,I upgraded the crossovers to crites a/4500.the AA Crossovers have been sold.
  18. I have owned Klipschorns and I always loved the life like sound they reproduced, the only negative is that they can be a little bright sounding, I found this forum and I kept reading about the 2” tractrix horns.I then found the Volti site and I wanted to upgrade my speakers, I just couldn’t justify the high cost of the complete upgrade package, then these popped up on the forum and I could own them for 2/3 of the cost of the upgrades.I bought them and after doing some repairs on the horns,I made some adjustments, different midranges and added the crites a/4500 crossovers and I was hooked. Then a pair of Klipschorns with ak-4 crossovers with ribbon mahogany finished were listed on this forum and it was less than a 5 hour drive so I bought them.I have picked up a piece here and piece there and I know have enough parts to do a complete Volti upgrade my other pair of Klipschorns and I am trying to sell these. My dream pair of Klipschorns are the 60th Anniversary pair.I want this pair to go to someone who will really enjoy them, due to the size of these they may not have a high wife acceptance. s
  19. Klipschorns with Bob Crites a/4500 crossovers, crites ct-125 tweeters,2” tractrix horns,Klipsch k-55v solder terminal midranges and k-33 woofers, with enclosed extended backs .Great sounding speakers that you don’t need corners to get great sound,I have played the with tube and solid state amps and they sound great with either types of amps.I prefer tubes.I am downsizing to one system and need to move these,I can email more pictures if interested .Must pick up in Sevierville,Tn

    What I Got Today!

What I got yesterday, met Joe and we made a trade and I bought some extra gear he was not using.I listed my reel to reel on the forum and he contacted me and I was driving to NC on Friday and he told me about his Aric Audio Southern BB2 amp,so I loaded up the reel to reel and we worked out a deal. The amp sounds great and he is now enjoying the reel to reel.I am really surprised at the sound of the el84 tubes,I did change the 12ax7’s for 12au7’sand that really helped the sound.
  22. Thanks Joe,I am looking forward to playing the Aric amp and trying the Primaluna pieces in my main system.I am glad that the reel to reel is going to be enjoyed and used.
  23. I have a sale pending with Joe ,look forward to meeting you tomorrow Joe.Sold
