  1. Why does this sound familiar? I think this has been posted before.
  2. Merry Christmas to all you horny dudes and dudettes. We don’t always see eye to eye on some audio related subjects but we all agree on quality loudspeakers. Hope Santa brought everyone something nice! Shakey
  3. Welcome to the forum and congrats on some fine speakers. I’m not a fan of BAT preamps, having owned two. They are ok, but not in my top ten. I like the thought of a Decware integrated but I would look at one of the Torii amps which have 25 watts on tap. I used one with khorns and it was a great match. For me it would have to be something with at least 20 watts, maybe more depending on the size of your room and listening habits.
  4. It has been my experience that although the mids in the CW IV are some of the best yet, there can still be some sharpness that creeps in from time to time. I have been experimenting with placement and have banished that almost completely. I suggest you keep moving them slightly because a little bit makes a big difference with these speakers. When you get it right you will know it and you’ll have a big grin on your face. Shakey
  5. That’s right! 😊 Thanks for a quick and painless transaction. Shakey
  6. No your grammar was fine. It was me who missed the all important comma.
  7. I don't high pass my Cornwalls, the subs are used to fill in below what they can do. The Cornwalls are run full range. You don't even know the subs are there on something like an acoustic bass. Shakey
  8. Lol, I missed the comma in your post. Grammar matters........
  9. Don't believe anything you've read here about Cornwalls unless they were IVs. Shakey
  10. Well those fortunate enough not to have to have their gear in the living room can still cohabitate with a spouse and go as crazy as we want to. I give my wife a lot of credit for hardly ever batting an eye when something new (and usually large and expensive) comes through the door. She’s a real trooper. Shakey
  11. Well since the forte IVs are currently made out of unobtanium, I doubt that comparison will happen for a while.......
  12. I wouldn’t be too concerned about what you can feel on the cabinet. If you don’t hear any issues with music I’d say you are fine. Shakey
  13. Yeah in your situation I think the Fortes work better.
  14. Is that 8 ft. from the plane of the speakers or 8 ft. from each speaker?
  15. Well in my opinion, for that to work with the Cornwalls, the sub would have to be no more than 1-2" high. With the risers, they are the perfect height for my listening position. If you had a higher chair than mine, you might be able to raise them a few inches more. Putting them on top of a subwoofer enclosure would totally skew the tonal balance of the speaker. Hey, it's not like we are talking about a bass shy speaker in the first place. In a non home theater setting, most would be more than happy with the bass output. Shakey
  16. Any sub you could sit the CW IV on top of would place the speaker way above the optimum listening height. I would not consider that option.
  17. I have listened to many of Jason's solo material and his work with Magnolia Electric Co. and I would say most of it is very well recorded. In a case where the musical talent is so good, this is just a bonus. Shakey
  18. In case you don’t find one, check out Don Sachs Audio or Erhard Audio for hand crafted high quality preamps. Shakey
  19. Yeah I discovered Jason late, but man does his music move me. What a talent to lose too soon.
  20. I think you may be missing something here. It’s not only the lowest octaves where the CW has the advantage over the forte. The midrange is smoother and more detailed. The presentation is decidedly bigger overall. Don't get me wrong, I lived with and loved forte IIIs. But I would take CW IV over them even if subs were added to the fortes. Especially if your room is smaller than mine, then the gap in the lower frequencies closes further. Shakey
  21. No mods to mine, I haven’t felt the need to tinker with them.
