I am tempted to have a single horn styled subwoofer build to augment my Klipschorns. In searching the internet I see several subs used in other configurations but none with Klipschorns. I think it would be easy to integrate using a class D amp with DSP. I would like to get down into the 20 Hz range. Anyone who has tried? As an aside I think this would be an ideal combination with LaScalas where you can place a sub in it's best location instead of in front of the room.

The reason I ask that with tailboards you reduce the area by the 3/4" tailboards. I have tailboards on my pre tailboard Khorns and before I remove to test them I thought I would ask the question. It likely it is negligible with good corners.

Simple question, has anyone measured, with REW, whether tail boards on the Klipschorns, with proper and tight corners, are constructive or destructive, help or hinder? Or are they only intended for those without good corners? Please don't respond with "if you have good corners, don't worry about it". Thanks.

Several years ago I had ported cabinets built for a pair of 604E's in the art deco style (i.e. 605 cab). They were properly tuned for each speaker by the length of the port tube and sound very good. This is not my main system but it is very enjoyable to listen to in the porch.

Claude, The Hypex PCS2.400 is bridged to 500 watts and running unbridged they are 400 watts each. Do you think the extra power is a detriment or do you think it would be cleaner running unbridged?

How much power is needed to bi-amp the Klipschorn bass bin with a Class D amp? Is too much power a detriment since a Class D amp has the highest distortion at lowest output. The amp has to have enough headroom to play all types of music at respectable SPL's, generally 80 to maybe 92db. A knowledgeable view is appreciated.

Just an update on the Khorns. Now triamping, solid state on the bass, Welborne 2A3 mid-range and Welborne 45 on top. Also have the system time aligned. Woofer stock, med-range B&C DCM50 with Eliptrac horn, B&C DE120 tweeter. Room is acoustically treated with diaphragmatic absorbers, acoustic panels and quadratic residue diffusers.

Pair of original Type A crossover networks. They came with my fathers Khorns he bought in 1969. Work fine. Make offer.

Altec 311-60 horns are an excellent when paired with Altec 288 drivers. Taper cut-off frequency is 220 Hz and is intended to be used in systems crossing over at 300Hz and above. These are excellent sounding horns. In my opinion the 311-60 is a better sounding horn than the 311-90. The reason is because the 311-60 is more directional and have better imaging. Currently I am using a B&C DCM50 mid frequency driver and Dave Harris Eliptrac 400 horn for the squawker and the B&C DE10 for high frequency and ALK universal crossover. It makes sense to use a coaxial driver like the BMS 4592 in the Eliptrac horn for time alignment. Has anyone had any experience with this combination? Also I am bi-amping the woofers with a Hypex PSC2.400 amp on each channel and using the electronic crossover of the Hypex. Currently for the mids and highs I am using a 45 SET amp. The current combination sounds very smooth with lots of low end grunt. Thanks for your input.

The ungrades on the Moondogs were Caddock resistors, Blackgate Muse electrolytic power supply capacitors, Jensen Copper Foil paper-in-oil capacitors, Cardas brand RCA connectors for the input jacks and binding posts and precision machined Teflon tube sockets. Early warning. Posting soon for a pair of Welborne Labs Moondogs 2A3 monoblocks with ultimate upgrade. These are from my 88 year old father who passed away last October. I would keep for myself but I already have Moondogs and the Starchief 45 SET amps. I am not sure of the price I will ask but they are in great condition. My fathers system had filtered air blown through his components when running. He had a Marantz 10b (bought new), but I am keeping that. He also had a pair Khorns modded with Altec 288k, 805b horns and ALK crossover.

It looks like your speakers are falling off considerably below 90hz. I would think it would be fairly obvious. It may be a factor of using a 45SET amp. Smooth mids and highs but lacks bass. I too am using a 45 SET but only for the mids and highs. For the bass i use a Hypex class D amp.
