  1. dont use automotive bondos on wood. & they all require a hardener. use the correct wood filler. i think DAP makes a very good one available at any menards or home depot type store. its easily sandable & doesnt use a hardener. some say they are even stainable but obviously will still be visible as the veneer is gone on any hole you are filling.
  2. wow, great deal on them chorus2's for $300! they sound great on that small marantz but feed them some higher power & they will really come to life... if you like louder volume that is. as for the repair all the above should work fine but i agree that stuff from parts express is a rip off for that smalll of a bottle, with shipping you will pay over $10. best stuff for this type of repair that is readily available & stays strong & flexible is an automotive RTV gasket maker/sealer called ultra-black by permatex. big tube is about $7 at any auto zone or auto parts store. will work great for that surround tear & as mentioned above works great for the rip in the cone, do the backside first & let fully dry, then do the front. its very easy to work with & stays flexible & strong which is very important on that surround hole. also looks like a pushed in dust cap on one of them, try pulling it out with some very sticky tape or use a shop vac carefully to pull it out, if its not too bad one of those tricks may work. if not you can get a new dust cap from simply speakers that is an exact match. but it is purely cosmetic so wont effect the sound at all. again, very nice score on the speakers! congrats!
  3. was just going to comment on the center/tv stand/audio rack.... with all the admiration of the k-horns nobody noticed the very unique lascalla based center/stand/rack. did you build that yourself? very cool indeed.
  4. oh, ok.... didnt intend it to be a debate either, just stating my experiences with raising speakers. i have taken some time, 25+ years of playing around with speakers, not much left to learn about raising them on stands. you stated your experience/opinions, i stated mine. thought thats what this forum was for, an exchange of ideas. didnt mean to upset you sir.
  5. ok but, you are still at a loss compared to being on the floor since you still have those 2 walls in the first place.... if you did what you explained while on the floor the same increases would happen. hence, the better bass when placed in a corner & ON THE FLOOR. my point & the fact is, that when raising the speaker 12-18+ inches off the floor you lose bass (or "boundry reinforcement") compared to being on the floor. plain & simple.
  6. & how does one do that? every mid size speaker i have ever owned from 1980's & early 90's 12" woofer MTX home speakers, cheaper sony/kenwood/pioneer 10 &12" woofer speakers etc etc, they all lose bass when on stands, & the higher you go the more you lose. most speaker companies even say, for best bass output put the speaker on the floor &/or in the corners of the room. dont confuse what im saying, obviously the speaker still puts out the bass freq its rated for whether its on the floor, raised on 18" stands.. or mounted to the ceiling. but what you lose is the sensation of the bass you feel when its on the floor, bass carries & transfers through the floor, especially on raised floors, maybe not quite as much on a cement slab or basement floor. on the same note, if anyone ever feels their klipsch, or any speakers, are "too bright" like i hear many people say quite often, raising the seaker so the bright mid is at ear level just exagerates that fact. when you look at klipsch horns, especially tractrix horns, they are angled such that they throw the sound field upwards & outwards towards your ear by design. i see no real need to raise them with all things considered. & actually heresy risers tilt the speaker back a bit, effectively raising the mid to point towards your ears more. unless you are an over critical low level listener or have hearing damage & need the increased mids, or they are in very large rooms & you are sitting 20+' back, raising them isnt usually needed. for a somewhat large speaker like a forte & in a "average" size room, the floor works just fine IMO. & for very large speakers like epic cf-3/4, klf 10-30, kg 5.5, etc, they are already up at almost perfect height, raising 4ft tall,108lb speakers on stands is overkill & just asking for trouble if they get bumped. not doubting your expereience or preferences moray, just stating my own, & a little fact as far as exagerating brightness some klipsch can have for some listeners.... plus i like all the bass sensation i can get.
  7. when i raise my fortes on stands they seem to lose some bass output, or the bass sensation you get when they are on the floor. at 10-12' away on a standard couch my ears are just above the tweeter center & they sound great. rasied up they lose bass which can make them sound "unbalanced" with my room/setup. & at 11' back sitting on a couch my k-horns my ear is pretty close to centered in the mids, which in a smaller room like mine can exagerate the already exagerated mid on the k-horn. i feel centering your ear in the mid is not worth it on fortes if they lose some of their bass output. i like my fortes just how klipsch designed em, on the floor with the 4" risers. the sound field they throw is so full & balanced i see no reason to raise them. but yes at ear level they will obviously have stronger mids.
  8. i was clearly being sarcastic...
  9. he was looking for a klf 30 woofer. epics are a different woofer specs/design...
  10. SOLD! buyer got them for the bin of $385. anyone here?
  11. it would work great & be a massive center able to do full range. people have modified many other speakers to be a woofer/tweeter/woofer arrangement, the good thing about the epics is they are already set up that way (d'appolito) & make for a excellent center. i dont think dispersion will be an issue at all, yes the horn is more vertical laying on its side, but for teh sound this will put out you will never notice a difference. for the price hes asking this will make an amazing center & a perfect match to cf-4's.
  12. i wondered that too... its only you that can see yours, no one else can, when i look at your user name its shows nothing about warning points, but i see it on mine. if that makes sense.
  13. welcome. chorus 2's are great speakers for home theater or 2 ch. heres my suggestions & without going overboard with suggesting tube amps or mcintosh gear etc like some may do receiver: i like onkyo or integra. on the used market for less than $500 you can get an 805 through 809 series that is hard to beat at any price, huge quality power for an AVR, audesy, & all the features you will ever need for home theater, & they sound very good for music too. some had hdmi issues but most are fine & onkyo has even extended warranty repair so that is not really an issue. personally i dont like hdmi pass-through anyways, most tv's have plenty of hdmi hookups & the shortest path is always better than doubling up your cables just so you can switch between sources with teh receiver. other speakers: without a doubt if size allows, use a forte 2 or quartet for surrounds as they are basically the same speaker as the chorus & will be timbre matched perfectly. the rs-3 type surrounds are nice if space matters & they can be raised up on the wall easier than bigger forte/quartets, but for best match you would want to upgrade to titanium tweeters on the chorus mains. for a center- a single quartet would be great but the academy or kv-4 might be a better match. also a rc-3ii or other reference center would be ok too. sub: the big klipsch reference 12" or 15" is a good sub too, but IMO, a used velodyne servo sub like the fsr-15 is an incredible sub & can be found for less than $500 & for that price it really cant be beat. SVS are great too but very pricey. you will get tons of other opinions & most will be fine suggestions, but to stay under your budget i feel what i listed would make a great system to match the chorus 2. or i should have said, those shorus 2's are the worst speaker klipsch ever made & you might as well sell them to me for $250. sound good??
  14. they show 250th day of 95, info i have says version 3 came out in late summer/fall of 95.. .so these very well could be & probably are v-2. if you are looking for a cf-3 center check out zeus's ad. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/156364-epic-cf-3-horn-woofer/
  15. LOL. no offense intended, but i know some browsers or smart phones can show websites different. you have to pay a couple bucks for a reserve price so im sure its less than the BIN, he started the auction at like $10 so hes just protecting himself from letting them sell for too cheap. i bet the reserve is about $50-100 less than the bin. wht cracks me up is the people that put in a $29 bid. i agree, an epic 5.1 or 7.1 system would be awsome. cf4 fronts, cf3 or 4 surrounds & even a cf-3 on its side for a center. for the prices these epics are going for lately, thats would be a hard system to beat.
  16. ahh, the infamous cig burn! cant beleive what people did to these speakers. how do you pay thousands of dollars for speakers with real wood veneers & then put plants or glasses or cigs on them? & klipsch seem to be a magnet for idiots that do this.
  17. "what could a quarter of forte look like up on 4 post stands??" about 25% of a forte. but who wants to cut their fortes into 4th's? sorry, couldnt resist.
  18. yeah not sure why he still has the cf-4 specs listed... sometimes ebays info isnt accurate or they dont have info on certain things, especially something as uncommon as epics, possibly they only have the cf-4 info available. but he easily could copy & past the cf3 info from klipschs website. not sure what browser you are using or if you are looking at these on a "smart" phone, but it says buy it now plain as day for me. hard to say what bidding will do on any auction, there are millions of ebay users & only handfulls of them see any given auction on any given day or week. so just because something sat there with little activity one week doesnt mean the next week it woont get all kinds of activity/bids. i have had things listed that got no bids at alll & no watchers, then relisted it the next week & got like 50 watchers & 20+ bids driving it up higher than the buy it now price i had. ebay is fickle that way & can either pay off well or barely get you the starting bid price. & the way the buy it now works is if someone hits it the auction is over, that person owns it, usually once the bidding gets to half the BIN price the BIN goes away. its kind of a "click it if you are willing to pay that much & dont want to get into a bidding war with others" kind of deal. if people sit there & try to do the last minute bids to save a few bucks they very well could get into a bidding war & drive it up higher than the BIN price. thats why i feel any one who reall wants these should just click the buy it now & get it over with, i mean really, $385 for nice oak cf-3's? come on, thats a bargain & a half! especially when people are paying $400+ for heresies & rf-3's etc, which might be "ok" speakers but dont come close to cf-3's. after the sale ebay will take 10% of the sale price & paypal gest about 3%, so i bet an offer for $325-350 cash would get them outside ebay, if the seller is willing to do that.
  19. thats what "local pick up only" means. comes down to where you are located & how far you are willing to drive if you want them. people on here have driven 8, 10, 16 hours one way for speakers before... i wouldnt mess with shipping something this large, heavy & delicate either. if they get damaged its a HUGE hassle to deal with the damage claim & the shipping company usually only pays the shipper which means the shipper has to fight with them to get paid, then refund the buyer IF the claim is approved. & some buyers & ebay will hold the shipper responsible for damage... so to deter shipping he tells people $400.
  20. yeah i remember those, wasnt there 2 pair from the same seller? those were version 3 for sure, but still went for pretty cheap. with all the praise the epic 3 & 4's get, im surprised there isnt more interest in these at that price. you could probably offer the seller $325-350 & get them outside ebay since thats all he will get after their & paypals fees... if i was closer i would consider them. i regret selling my cf-4 v-2's last year, but selling them & my kg5.5's went towards my k-horns, so i got over the sellers remourse real quick!
  21. funny, my post for these is right below yours.... $385 buy it now... if nobody buys these this time around im at a loss for words.
  22. not sure how else to offer my help... if you pay the seller for it & a small fee to me for running around town to pick it up & get boxes & packing it up & then deliver to speedy (which all in all is probably about a 25 mile round trip for me) im happy to help. PM me to work out the details... or sounds like a couple others were willing to help too. your call.
