  1. I grew up in the '50's and early '60's listening to mono on a single Klipschorn. (I still regret not getting my hands on that speaker but it was long gone before I was grown). I still listen to some of my folks old mono LP's. Nice clean sound from quality recordings. Yeah, it's different, but much of it is really good stuff.
  2. Thanks, Chad. Very nice. Next they should do videos for each speaker in the Heritage line. Chuck.
  3. Sent you a PM, Marty. Thanks. Chuck
  4. Nice job on the refinishing. I'd probably leave them alone unless I could do the veneering as a DIY job. You shouldn't have any prob selling these speakers, especially with the Crites upgrades.
  5. Most celebrities are too self absorbed to care about such national treasures. Phil Collins appears to be just the opposite and very generous to boot. I've lived in San Antonio. The Alamo is a landmark to be experienced, not just visited. Mr. Collins is clearly aware of that and has made a great contribution.
  6. Thanks. Those are probably fairly reliable indicators in a lot of cases.
  7. One thing seems pretty clear - not all tube amps are created equal. I tried one that I picked up fairly cheap on ebay several years ago and it was poorly made and sounded worse. On the other hand, I listened to an excellent tube integrated at a local dealer last week that I would buy in a heartbeat if it didn't cost $3600. Oh well. The same types of differences in sound quality also exist in the ss arena. There's a lot to be said for auditioning equipment (to say nothing of staying within a reasonable budget)! Generalizations about tubes or ss don't seem to be very meaningful any more, at least to me.
  8. Welcome from Colorado. Looks as though you're already well acquainted with Klipsch speakers. This is a great group and you'll enjoy being part of it!!
  9. An audio shop is the best resource, unfortunately. Otherwise we have to rely on the subjective opinions of others. Perhaps if you could pinpoint a brick and mortar store that carries both tube and ss brands you are interested in, you could make the trek. A little research in those respects could go a long way. Some time back, I did just that and brought an old pair of heresys with me. I listened to a cd I was very familiar with and did an A-B comparison of Parasound ss separates and a Vincent tube hybrid amp. Parasound won by a thin margin. Again, it was all based on my subjective opinion and someone else might have come to the opposite conclusion. Another approach might consist of buying both a tube and a ss amp on the used market (again, brands you have researched and are interested in), compare them in your home and then sell one of them after comparing and deciding on a 'winner.' Best of luck. Chuck
  10. They're either nuts or it's just a stunt to impress those of us who don't got the bucks. And .. if I had big bucks .. why would I buy Emo in the first place? I'm not critical of Emo, per se, and have come close to purchasing from them, but I think you could do better if willing and able to spend the money.
  11. I'm gettin' to be an old guy and stick pretty much with what I know, but my preference is 1. light sanding, 2. conditioner, 3. stain (oil based if possible), 4.light sanding perhaps and tack cloth and, finally, 5. poly or tung oil finish. FWIW, one of the nicest jobs I did was a nice medium oak stain on a crappy pine fireplace mantel with a tung oil finish. Many moons ago. Minwax is great but they've jumped on the "all in one boat" and I just can't go there if I have a choice! Might give it a shot some day. Best of luck. Chuck

    SOLD

Shipping costs are indeed high ... and kill a lot of potential deals, Happy that yours was successful.
  13. As I previously mentioned, I cross my 30's over at 40 hz. What I failed to mention is that the 30's kick a** in the bass department even without a sub. I ran my HT for quite a while without a sub and with great bass. When I wanted more, I added a sub. If your 30's are lacking bass, something IS WRONG. These speakers move some air! Unless, of course, something is wrong. I'd get it checked out. I'm not techinically inclined, but some of these other guys are and I would ask for help in how to trouble shoot for malfunctions, either in the speakers or the sub or the other electronics.

    Moving on

Life is a journey and an adventure. Make the most of it and enjoy every moment.
  15. Dammit!! Your creations look great. I'm doing the low carb thing to lose a bunch of unneeded lbs.
  16. That will be one georgeous speaker. Wish I had your skills. Just one question .... why did you decide on a 2-way design? Just curious since Belles were 3-way. I know a lot of folks seem to prefer 2-way. Thanks.
  17. OMG, guys. I stand corrected. I hear you! Let's un-crap the thread and get back on topic!!
  18. The mere posting of the cake thread is discrimination against those who are gluten free and/or low carb!! The Food Police are probably on the way.
  19. Our RW-12d is rated at 24 hz and shakes the whole damn place with the right movie. From all I read you can do better sound-wise for a 2 ch application but it seems doubtful that you'd need a sub that goes deeper for any use. Just my $.02. Good luck!!

    WTF ?

I think there's one series of speakers above the WTF series ... the OMG!! series.

    WTF ?

Finally, DizRotus hits the nail on the head. There's a huge difference between publicly calling another forum member out over differences of opinion over price, etc. (of which I see only a little) and pointing out some bizzare ad or a scam on CL. The same is true of the occasional scam posted here on the forum. We should indeed look out for one another. My point is that let's use a little discernment rather than a blanket criticism of every negative comment made with regard to sale items. IMO some are are valuable and even educational while others are not.

    PWK a "madman?"

Haven't used my dictionary on this one yet, but I believe in common usage one who is "mad" is crazy. Don't think Paul was crazy. Eccentric and/or maverick most likely. Genius? Probably so.
  23. I like my 30's as is. And .. I've been fortunate that I haven't had the cabinet probs some folks have had. One early reviewer called them the best rock 'n roll speaker ever and I tend to agree. They still get a lot of HT action in our house. If I wanted to do that much modding I think I'd just get another set of speakers more to my liking. Hope you are happy with the result, though.
  24. Welcome. This is a great place to be. Like the idea of setting aside time with your spouse. We tend to go on "streaks" where we listen all the time and then it tails off for a while. We do HT every weekend, however. Good to have you aboard. Chuck
