  1. A stellar standard but which tiep?
  2. Considering how dry and flaky varnish, or lacquer or whatever that older clear finish is that is not a good thing. I can often take a razor blade and easily remove small areas. Sometimes I think that might be from poor storage environments like to much humidity or storage units that go from 0 to 140 degrees temp over the year.
  3. That would work. I will be trying that one out soon.
  4. For me as measured around 80db on certain songs. At louder volumes the perception of deeper bass is pretty amazing when you realize you can now hear what was always there but hidden by cabinet resonance.
  5. Sure buy good high quality bread.
  6. And in various forums beside this one. The problem is not that people are piling on it is that utter nonsense is reaping it's just reward. He makes himself the object of negative attention through his belligerent at times defense of complete BS. I don't know if he is just a troll or sadly really believes what he say's and then often caustically defends but as far as I am concerned he is fair game and comedy gold. He has earned his right to be regarded in this manner and continues to do things that further earn his position. What the moderators have to decide is how does his presence reflect on this forum. I assume that thinking adults can very quickly decide he is what he seems to be and either not tune in or enjoy the humor of it all and I for one think it is amusing.
  7. Now this is why I posted the drawing so it could become DIY. I can't advise anyone on gluing to lacquer or varnish or paint though. The ones I had were painted and since I am going to duratex them sanding to bare wood was not a problem. Now I have a question for you woodworking wizards. If I had a nice set I wanted to add these to but not sand the sides or doghouse where the brace will go what surface treatment and glue would work here? I figure I can coat the braces to suit except for the edges that will be glued to save
  8. Bet it was a JDM comment. Maybe he wants us to invite him over here.
  9. OK well using the orbital sander research tool the very loudest sound happens at the center front of the sides so I figure that was where to dampen. Is beyond my pay scale so you will have to explain all this.
  10. Yeah and there goes Don pooping on the parade when he could be a solid contributor towards research into zip tie magnetic field phenomena.
  11. Oh that would be epic. Twilight Zone and Monty Python at the same time.
  12. Say by the time I need fans I can't hear them anyway😀
  13. OK explain to me why this is better. I figured the center would work best for looks and noise abatement. Hey you need to stop in and hear the S-MWM's
  14. How did we get sucked into a year old thread? Ah yes Vasubandu and memory lane.
  15. Of them all the Chorus I is my favorite. Precise crisp bass and all the high notes too and it does not care where you place it. Better yet one of the earlier versions of the KP-301. That K-48 is just superior in every way.
  16. Those KP 262's were nice for voice but hardly any bottom end and I figure they would be lost in the magnificent sound from those 456's. Krush has a real problem in that he jumped up to a very high level of output and fidelity and it is going to be hard to find surround gear with that kind of presence. I am glad I am a simple two channel guy. Those 301's might work. My all time favorite ones were the cloth grille covered ones from the late 80's and you recap and stick a large MAHL tweeter in there and you really have something.
  17. I recently decided to try bracing and see if it could produce results perhaps as good as beating off sides and replacing with 25mm Baltic Birch. The other one I did this too had a two piece cabinet and the top section was made large enough for my Large MAHL tweeter with the DE10. What the brace did is a big improvement and I decided that going all the way back was overkill. I had clamped wood to the side of the bass bin in the rectangular section adjacent to the back on the sides and it did not sound like it did anything more than the braces pictured below did. Cutting five of these, four for use and one for a quick and easy pattern makes me believe these bass bins are pretty consistent as there were no gaps and voids. I cut these a bit short so the narrow end would not go all the way back to that little flat section at the end of the doghouse bevel. This allows one to tap it in place and if needed remove and sand to fit at that time. I drew a centerline on the sides and doghouse where the brace would touch and then a line 1/2" above that for visual on alignment. Drilling two holes through the centerline of the doghouse bevel where I can get to them from the inside with a stubby screwdriver to aid in screwing this brace in. Glue the two sides of the brace where it will contact the sides and bevel and tap it in place and hold it in place with a clamp while I screw the brace to doghouse bevel. Dont hammer this brace in as far as you can but do it just enough to be really snug. To far and you will put stress on the sides you will regret later if things split apart. I like this brace idea and it really reduces resonance. The DE10 though with the larger MAHL is a whole different animal and I just might try a stand for this to put on the top rather than build a whole new top section just to see how this goes. I am also coming to the conclusion that if you really want your La Scalas to sing you are probably going to have to do some room EQ too. Anyone who comes over to look at these La Scalas I am working on will listen to them with and without room EQ and they can decide what they want to do.
  18. Well it will. When your head bonks off the horizontal flat surface the way you fall determined by where the ties are will create differing sounds. Restrained angry words VS totally angry words for instance.
  19. Yes in a sofer and bunctioning state of mind.
  20. Yes and don't forget sectional area is important too! Wider thicker ties must be aligned properly to work best.
  21. The best thing to do is fix them up as cheap as possible and sell them to those who want them ;D
  22. Never did get real answer on the splitters did I. Loose things act very strange with speakers. I had an odd buzz with a Forte once. drove me nuts and I had checked everything more than once before I noticed a screw stuck to the side of the woofer magnet. Another one was a screen over a woofer hole that had fallen into the dust cap and you could not see it but you could hear it a certain frequencies.
  23. Humor is endless and timeless and why would one want to limit it? Admittedly it has veered a bit off course but still does serve a purpose.
