  1. OK Jeffrey here is the crossover in question I am working on. I am somewhat intrigued by your approach and wonder how you would improve upon this one.
  2. Reading this morning about the Swine Flu and all those resultant deaths. Somehow the media back then did not go into hyper sensationalism mode but today they do. Half the leadership and most of the media appear to disdain the idea of America and are the reason all this nonsense is going on. TDS first and only and the heck with the USA.
  3. I leaned towards the bulge being deliberate but as crude as these 510's I have are I was not sure.
  4. I know machinists now who use those all the time. Not for germs but because tools don't slip as easily and it keeps coolant off their hands. My mail carrier got in the habit of using them during one of the recent panics and kept doing so because it was easier to sort and handle mail with them.
  5. It's pretty space restricted on that little PC board. Yes and that calibration you mention would still show variance even if it was off. It shows the 20 year old TI's to measure the same as today's Erse's did. Yes and I am looking for a good tolerance electrolytic that beats the 20 year old ones. I need the smaller size here if I can find something worthwhile. OK could you tell me what that means? I think I will pass on that.
  6. Got a pair in and side by side they are different. The mouth of the EBay horn has a sharp corner where it meets the mounting flange and the 510's I have are rounded there. The throat has as shown a square cutout like area like the 402 horn does and again my 510's don't have. Sharp corners EBay and rounded corners 510 from throat to mouth. The EBay horns are a more precision made product and all the mounting holes are in the same distance from the edge. There is a basic rectangular mounting hole pattern to the screw holes on both. The 510 I was looking at was canted slightly making some holes closer to the edge and some not. One of the 510 holes in that severely brittle material has cracked a chunk out because it was to close to the edge. The driver mounting flange on one 510 I have loose was not flat and when the driver was pulled in snug the flange cracked around one hole. The two EBay horns were flat in this area. The general slope on the top and bottom sides of the 510 have a bulge in there and I can't tell if this was by design or if the material has warped during cooling from molding or time. The same surfaces on the EBay horn are far more uniform and do not have this bulge. The 510's seem to be thicker and better braced with external ribs on the back side. I don't know what on the 510 horn is by design or accepted as manufacturing variance tolerances, which appear to be pretty sloppy, or if that was state of the art for that type of plastic at that time. These 510 horns I have, all eight whole and three broken ones, are no where near as precision as my two 402 horns are and just look crude. Also I don't have enough experience with the 510 horns to know if what I have was peculiar to production at that time and later horns were made better. These were made in that same time frame as those 402 horns which would sag and deform under heat so there were known issues from then with some Klipsch molded horns. If I was a large commercial customer with the inevitable breakage that would occur with this brittle stuff these horns I have were made of I would have been complaining. How these will measure for sound I will leave others to figure out but in all honesty those old 510 horns I have leave a lot to be desired on manufacturing consistency and product durability. These EBay horns are kind of a mix of 402's and 510's.
  7. The cost of making molds has declined a lot with the advancement of machining and design software. A molding outfit with in house design build and molding capabilities wont have much trouble with a mold this size. The 402 however IS a different animal and that one does have a much more serious start up cost and very limited market. Reverse engineering is also cheap now and $500 bucks can buy a scan to 3D cad part file for things as basic as a 510 horn here in the USA.
  8. I have no doubt these are made in China. After the patents are expired anyone can make them though and I think that is the case with the original 510 and also the 402.
  9. Working on some KPT 100 and 200 crossovers and wanting to replace those old TI electrolytic caps. The problem I am having is the new Erse caps have just as high ESR as the 20 year old TI's do. Kind of sad really that 15 and 25uf new Erse caps are measuring at least .3+ ESR. Any suggestions for better ones? I have a hard time believing those Erse's are state of the art and no better than the old caps are.
  10. Seeing is believing though.
  11. Well I have a great big horn but you will never get me to say something like those 904's are bad. The 904's good and a set of KP-450's is what really started me down the pro gear path.
  12. Heck I just lift the Chorus speakers up by hand and a two wheeler does for the 904's. Nice big rubber feet on the 904's allows for easily slipping a two wheeler under them. I will say there is something to watch out for lifting Chorus speakers up. If the base is loose it can come off if you are using it to carry by. Almost lost one that way.
  13. Try to hear your potential choices ahead of time if you can and make your decision an informed one.
  14. I saw those videos too but then the Chinese govt turns around and says out of 1.3 billion people they report (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/) less than 100,000 and 3,158 deaths. So who is telling the truth and where does one find the truth? For something that is supposed to be a huge threat to the human race there is an unprecedented amount of pure misinformation and smoke screens every where. If this is a deadly threat to the world why not clear the air and make the facts known. Some day there will be a real pandemic and these people who obfuscate the truth for whatever reason are not doing any of us a favor. I get tired of being lied to by everyone and tend to dismiss hyperbole until I see proof.
  15. Well stated. I am watching to see if this is a real peril or not and will react accordingly.
  16. One of the interesting first attempts at identifying groups that were more susceptible to this stated there was a corollary between the absurdly high rates of male cigarette smokers in China and vulnerability to Wuhan. Now I would add to that the worst pollution in the world so in essence they have compromised immune systems due to all the toxins they breathe all the time. Air pollution is beyond belief there. There is nothing on our worst days for pollution here that is anywhere close to major urban centers in China every day. Here is a web site that racks current pollution levels world wide. https://aqicn.org/map/world/ Any areas in particular that might stand out here? Also note that Iran has the worst high air pollution levels among Arabic nations. Now the interesting thing about the daily tracking for Wuhan right now is that so much of industry is shut down their current daily air pollution levels are no where near as deadly as normal. Also note the following. https://www.eurasiareview.com/01022020-polluted-air-could-be-an-important-cause-of-wuhan-pneumonia-oped/ Italy as noted elsewhere has the highest elderly population in Europe and like the elderly everywhere they have more problems with flu. An old folks home in WA is where the worst problems to date arose in the USA.
  17. Yes they are just like the flu. See the problem with sensationalism is perspective is thrown out the window and people forget the 600,000+ killed from flu every year. Every year. Where is the freakout over all that and somehow when 60,000+ died in the USA from flu 2017-18 it did not stop trade, events or lives. I fully intend to live a normal life and have no concerns until I see something to worry about.I am puzzled why people allow the media to take such control of their lives and cause them to forget perspective and history.
  18. If it wasn't it is now and we will remove the wuhan virus from Hope!
  19. Heh heh, I will be turning it up for others. I already know what they are like. Although I have to admit I want to put them outside on that covered area at the and of the building and turn them up. I just want to see what they will do.
  20. I am like Carl and looking for evidence. Is this worse than the propagation rate of a bad strain of flu? The numbers in South Korea and China and Italy are nothing compared to population and normal flu deaths.
  21. I intend to kill the virus with sound waves. I hope to sterilize the whole building.
  22. Booked a room today and will arrive on Wednesday. Available to help anyone unload and setup Thursday at any time. The earlier we can get access the better as far as I am concerned.
  23. Both. The 1132 was I think the first one to have this and you will hear a set in Hope soon. If I remember right they are in other drivers now too and I think that includes the 691. Perhaps Roy will chime in here.
  24. What those horns will not have is the drivers with Roy's new phase plugs to put in them. That new tractix phase plug really changes things and Klipsch has many years left on that one.
