  1. why in the world would you have left them in a box for a year?
  2. I will use my SS amp the same way. We think alike. I have been an electronics tech since the late 70's.
  3. Can't wait for this reply I am guessing he will say that the difference in sound between VRD's with MQ iron and Mac stuff is so close as to be of no consequence ??
  4. Why is McIntosh the "side-DaRk"? "GADDDD-ZOOOOKS" ....followed in kind! i almost did!
  5. I need to become an auctioneer! I want a % of all sales... and I am unanimous on that!!
  6. Yep I heard that too. I canceled the purchase of the JMA BB Extreme. So I AM IN THE MARKET for a good preamp. Discgolfer123 TIM PLEASE CALL ME!
  7. that can be avoided with this: http://www.amazon.com/D5S6-Contact-Cleaner-F5S-H6-FaderLube/dp/B00HNV7WI2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00
  8. get a boom box? I guess you want my Khorns and other equipment too? But after this splurge of money and effort, If I can realize a worthwhile distance, I have a nice boom box picked out!
  9. any suggestions for paying other than paypal? Unless I use my checking account ( as opposed to debit card) it cost 2.9% I just can not afford that right now. The piggy bank is empty. Cashier check takes 5 to 10 business days to clear. I wish Trump was my friend. I know he would float me a loan for 30 days! LOL
  10. Craig and I talked for some time. He said either the JMA BB extreme or the NBS will sound very good. It impressed me that he did not push his product ( so to speak). Eth2, how did the two compare? What speakers did you use ? I did find a Juicy BB extreme ( stock) and it is on the way. I am flat broke at this time... but its all good. At 63 everyday is borrowed anyway and you can not take it with you!
  11. What was difference in sound of the bb and nbs?
  12. no one said the only worthy components are NOS... what are you talking about and why are you even saying that?
  13. ok i am not going there. People need to learn how to get along.
  14. Sorry Schu, I pounced! I tell you what.... If I can not justify spending a Kings Ransom ( well for me i am a poor man, but I do have music) they will be up for sale in less than 2 months. I have no idea how this is going to turn out. But it is my last effort in looking for the sound. The good and bad news is. BAD FIRST...It might take ~ $5,000 to $7,000 ( for amps and preamps) to get the music just right. If it does not, I will go back to my Yamaha RX-A1030 and save the money for a vacation...LOL. The good news is if the 1030 gets me most of the way to nirvana, I can save a boat load of money!!
  15. what do they cost new and used?
  16. would a juicy BB Extreme be a good pre for these?
  17. I JUST PURCHASED a set or VRD's made by NOS Valves. I hope that are all they are cracked up to be. Other than that you can read through some of my posts. I have been looking for amp nirvana for a long time. Its best if you can buy, try and return or sell. It costs money sometimes, but it is better to do that then stay stuck with something that is not pleasing to your ear. With that said everyone listens differently. I will throw this in here. Buckle up! READY.... SET... GO... ok are you ready? I found a almost new Yamaha Aventage RX A 1030 on CL for cheap. ( OK I SAID IT ....THATS RIGHT I SAID IT...... PHEW) At the time, i had very little money ( and never thought I would be able to afford better. Strange thing is that Intergrated amp has caused me to return a FW F6, a set of QS horn mono-blocks and an Emotiva 300w per channel amp ( can not remember the m/n) They were all very good. But the yamaha got me 90% there. I could not see spending $2000 for such a minimal improvement. I have khorns and they respond to good music sweetly and bad music shows up real fast. FWIW... if you care to go out on a limb.. I just found out about the Yamaha S3000. I am betting that thing is amazing. And well it should be at the price they are asking! You can buy and return at no cost. But to enter into that arena requires seriously deep pockets. I do not have deep pockets. If the VRD's don't do it for me, I will sell them and save up for the S3000. If that gets sent packing... I am done looking... for sure and with out question.... Jus-sayin'
  18. I am very interested. Let me do some home work and look into the bank account.... GLWS! IF you don't mind why are you selling and what will you be replacing them with?
  19. Simply by our vary nature to be attracted to great music and what that implies in the realm of striving for a higher plane... ( i.e. very intelligent and informed) are we subject to the following? Just asking! SO TO THAT END, if one listened to a music system ( that gets us to 90~95% of what is possible in the art of sound reproduction ) one day and then a day or two later listens to a music system ( with ~98 to99% i.e. the active crossover set up) how much is real and how much is the McGurk effect or even the power of suggestion effect. I can say this with 101% accuracy! When I have not listened to my system for a day or two, it sounds freaking amazing. After many hours it still sounds amazing, but if I am critically listening vs enjoying the music, I start to hear ( perceive) areas that might be improved upon....
  20. No one does "upgrades" for Klipsch, and you should not think that Volti, good as it is, is in any way an upgrade to Klipsch. Volti is a separate and unrelated company. I would like to understand why you say Volti is not a upgrade to KHorns. I am guessing you feel the same way for any non-klipsch mod???? MANY people have replaced the squawker ( mid range) and report that the Khorn sounds better. I would very much appreciate you explaining this to me. It would save me a lot of money. Maybe I am looking / listening in the wrong way, maybe wrong expectations? You can pm me or even we could talk on the phone. I am very open minded. Please understand Why I am thinking about new midrange. Many times with female singers, It sounds as though the horn is distorting or shrieking as opposed to the music just flowing out. It only does this at 80~ 85 db-spl ( an up) at listening position... and not with all recordings. You help in this matter is greatly appreciated!
  21. I don't think it's to small, but I have a question, if you didn't like the LaScala sound i just wanted to make sure you knew the top half of the Khorn is the same. It will sound different overall for sure but if it was the top half you did not like the khorn may give you the same problem ? Thanks for the question. I had very nice Lascalas. I even did the Fastlane Mid range ( squawker ?) up grade. It was a bit better, but not worth the money. What I did not like about the Lascalas was what happened after listening to Khorns. IMHO, 50% more from the Khorns mid to low frequency. Way more musical and close to life!
  22. How could a Klipschorn come out on top against that? Have you heard this ? I have....sound good? not so much!
