Lacquer spray paint usually works well for this application. First, learn the best techniques and make sure to practice on something else. If you mask off all the parts that should not get painted, the sonic performance will not be affected.

It is a false rumor, started by someone who never thought to look at the bottom of the somewhat heavy cabinet, where the access panel is located.
It is also possible that someone may have at one time glued the access cover closed on some speakers, causing grief for the next person that wanted to get in.

Have you considered getting the new Klipsch Jubilee speakers? That could be a big upgrade in the sound.

I have an amp with meters. When the meters are indicating 15 to 20 watts, the peak indicator 150W RMS/channel LEDS will flash with the music. Of course it is a rare occasion with Klipsch Heritage speakers, but the point is that music is very dynamic and it is good to have enough power available when the need occurs.

Hard to imagine that another amp could sound better than what you have, but it is possible that other amps might interact differently with the impedance curves and affect parts of the frequency response that might appeal to some ears. That would not be an "improvement" in sound, just a laborious way to EQ your system.

I have some AMTs (on a shelf, since upgrading to the Axi-2050 on K-402s). When I bought the AMTs new from Heil, there were no instructions about back wall spacing or interference. So, when I did use them, I covered the backs with thick sound absorbent material to reduce the potential phase problems from wall reflections. I like those Beyma units with the rear enclosure.

Test listening to the bass response of some speakers for sale that you MIGHT buy, with the amp you plan to use at home seems genuine to me.
As far as your room is concerned, no one else can really say how any pair of speakers will work out. I say that my Klipschorns sound better in my room than the La Scalas did in the same room. Other people on the forum might say something similar or express an opposite opinion. The fact is that every room has so many variables that any combination will have different results.
