  1. As you have heard Klipsch speakers all sound great and you really should listen to a few. All their tower speakers sound amazing with exceptional base response. We have a like new pair of Heresey II's with shipping boxes and paperwork we are not using. Mike
  2. Our LaScalla Pro bases are sitting on top of BFM sub base cabs 40" above the floor the midrange through an active electronic crossover is explosive. We all have a different ear and finding the right speaker combo is worth all the time and effort it takes to find them.
  3. You will both be amazed at how well the Lascalla's will fill your home with full rich sound once you get them dialed in. Ours are in our finished basement with floor registers in every room for heat transfer. When the system is playing we both comment most everytime how amazing the sound is. Good Luck
  4. For many years used an equalizer when speakers were lacking. Now with LaScalla's remodified and new horn subs no need for an equalizer. The electronic crossover is all that is needed. Also remodeled the listening room.
  5. I like the idea of retro fitting amps to newer technology as long as the original look is maintained and that it would have to be done by a local person for the knowledge to diagnose and repair it. The other more important factor would have to be the cost otherwise it would not make sense.
  6. As the Fanatic stated half the fun is the journey we have several systems mostly all played through Klipsch speakers. Our Heresey's are presently stored but when used were on stands helped out in the bass with a Sunfire which is also now stored.
  7. With all the speakers we have used in our 18 x 22 listening room the LaScalla's are the ones we like the best for the chest punching bass. Ours are setting on top of a pair of Table Tuba's even at the lowest volumes seriously doubt there could be much more of an improvement. Whatever the assessment my search is over we finally have what we have always wanted and as we all know that is the bottom line. Good luck to all in your quest for that perfect sound reproduction.
  8. In my case "No" the Splits were built like a Brick-hithouse. If i ever buy Scallas again they WILL be splits, much easier to handle and work on also. Splits are for sure much easier to work with and the way I went. Stopped doing gigs a long time ago really like having the separate cabs.
  9. We have had our new horn subs in service now for near 3 months every time we fire them up we are so thankful to have discovered them. No matter where you are in our home upstairs or down the impression is as if you are hearing the music live. Hearing them is the best judge of how they compare.
  10. It should be that way if it pleases the ears great, if it pleases the mind even better. Sure will be glad when the cellar is done we miss our system.
  11. I guess I am a geek also. And old fashioned too. I just happen to like multichannel music also for some recordings. Bill Actually I like the multichannel but being weaned on stereo it just seems less confusing when working around the house or out in the shop. Isn't this part of what makes the world go round.
  12. That is a marriage made in heaven. Kinda like a 4 way LaScala that can go from 22Hz-17KHz. I am speaking of the Tuba Home Theater (THT) and LaScalas with a proper crossover. I understand tapped horn subs get along with LS very well also. We think so the bored K400's at face height with new PRV drivers really tops them off.
  13. I always get a kick when people excitingly speak of how they feel like the speakers are compressing their chest. Our LaScalla's sitting on top of BFM Tuba's where they really shine crossed to do what they do best.
  14. Always listen in stereo because we are so busy all the time. Our living room is wired for surround sound and for a while had all the speakers hooked up call us old fashioned but we got tired of it.
  15. My .02 worth, in all my near 60 yrs. of experimenting with audio have used about every type of speaker wire that would fit the lugs, even what could be considered welding cables. Never running more than 30' to any speaker probably is the reason for never hearing any noticeable difference in sound no matter what wired things together. All our wire is no less than 16 gauge but monster wire non the less, just because it makes me feel better.
  16. When we first got our LaScalla's we positioned them every way possible even firing them straight down looking for that deep base. Finally built horn subs for that chore then placed the LaScalla's on top Wow! they really shine at that level especially being crossed to handle the mid and high range. Everybody that has heard this stack so far has walked away smiling big time. The search is over for this cat!!
  17. As you have read they have built in handles but if you are moving them a lot either pick up a small hand cart or install casters. They are heavy and awkward no doubt.
  18. The bottom line when it comes to our sound systems is what we need from them and we are not all the same. This forum has many talented well versed audiophiles, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Finding the right system can be a daunting and expensive task one can find themselves getting lost in all the jargon. The more time you spend listening to systems, asking questions, experimenting with systems controls the more you will develop and understand what it is you really like to hear and how to find it I found mine many years ago. As we age it changes slightly but by then you are much more well versed in how to stay ahead of the change. Visiting these forums and asking questions should be a part of that strategy.
  19. Enjoy this thread simply because years ago we were a pain to our neighbors never knowing just how far the system could be heard beyond our walls. Once we knew this our cellar became a huge project once done moved all the equipment down there. From then on all bets were off what a feeling of freedom it has been. Now one of my most used tools is an SPL meter.
  20. Have always thought I wanted Crown's but our heavy weight SoundCraftsman amps are true workhorses. Without side by side comparing these amps ignorance is bliss.
  21. Is it ever especially in the bass to have horns. No matter where we go in our home the music is clear, crisp, powerful and best of all you feel in your feet so many already have commented on that very experience. Thank you ClaudeJ for steering me in that direction
  22. Sometimes wish I could drop the fanatical pursuit of accurate music reproduction but it is the very thing that drives me and why we have the equipment we do. The wife said it best the other day while her and I were enjoying our new stack of speakers playing the music we both love together. That was " her and I are the only two that could possibly understand and enjoy what we have and why we need such a sound system "
  23. One thing I obsessed on years ago was accuracy. We followed a couple of local well known popular bands around for a while purchased their records and CD's then upgraded equipment and speakers till I got what was as good as it could be without actually being there. Then you have the recording studio and it's squeaky clean you have to figure in. As Dave said "it's all good if it sounds good to You"
  24. We just plugged in a couple Table Tubas to help out the LaScalla'a electronically crossed. These cabs are doing just that loafing along. The LaScalla's sound even better sitting on top of the TT's putting the modified K-400's in our faces. We have a very happy household.
  25. We have had our Sunfire for near 20 yrs. now have to keep it dialed back some with our Klipsch SF-2's. Once that cube starts to work with 2700 watts for backup it will pull nails.
