  1. I have 1 lonely model H and my k-1000 has a atlas PV-4 instead of atlas PV-5 aka k-55
  2. Not exactly Klipsch....but got it yesterday. drove 6hrs round trip to pick it up. click once on the pic for exploded view.
  3. I used to own 3 of them. The MC2000 uses semiconductors in its driver stage and is not end to end balanced as the MC-2012 is. Blows grid resistors like the 4th of july.
  4. I stopped reading after the first line of the article. the replacement speakers being cited as the bose drivers are generic replacements offered by the refered web site and they clearly indicate the 35 per pair speakers are replacements. I would argue if the replacements which need a 350hz cutoff would perform as well as the originals with the 120hz cut off. on the general subject of bose...they are good enought for what they do...would I buy a pair of new 901's for 1800 bucks...probally not...but if you give me a set for free...i won't say no they stink dont want them. I'd put them on my oak roll top desk in studio monitor mode. The cubes are poular becuase they have a very small foot print. Some folks do not want to see 8 to 9 cubic feet speakers and refrigerator size sub woofers in their decorative living rooms. to each their own. If the serach is for the ultimate sound...it would be a weak argument to oppose just buying a super pair of head phones.
  5. Because we have several things at our disposal that were not availble cheaply 30 years ago. We now have the equivalent of $20,000 worth of test gear for less than $500. REW and other software is free, as is Hornresp. We have a solid base of Do It Yourself fanatics with great knowledge and skill who are willing to share openly, that's why. Any other questions, hombre? you missed the point of the partial post you quoted. Not really, Maybe I'm wrong, but he seemed to be poking fun at Klipsch's apparent production technique called Maximum Material Utilization (which I have always done in my Engineering Career). IOW, minimizing WASTE. That can be a huge part of design consideration whenever making compromises. Intended sarcasm aside, it was a good opportunity for me to establish my own point about the modern DIY landscape. No offense meant. While understanding Maximum Material Utilization..... the point is these designs are not fragile in that they have to be exactly as they are in current production....a lot of production elements of the design has no bearing on sound and more so on solving how to roll them down the assembly line....take the mysterious design of the sides of the 5 sided dog house in a LaScala....only done so the woofer would fit ...else the sides would obstruct the woofer magnets. Having said that...why botther keeping them in if we are going to redesign into a bigger foot print? If you oversize the cab, then you can go with 4 sided as in the Belle.

  7. got this last week. 80WPC tube amp. dead quiet and excellent dynamic range. very large foot print 17"X14". Was suprised to see the 4 type III EI kt-90 tubes. super happy with this amp. click pic for zoom view.
  8. pair of M-60's on ebay right now for 1800. wont be surprised to see these m-40's next week on the bay for 1200. the m-40 new empty chasis appear often on ebay for a seller who seems to have a lot of sound vales stuff....maybe form a buy out.
  9. manley 35W tube mono blocks and tube pre. 1992 vintage. click pic for zoom view
  10. linseen yellows pretty bad in the sun...so keep away from sunlight. Watco seems deeper penetrating. I like tungoil on darken woods.
  11. awesome. These joint projects are memories for life and priceless
  12. Looking for a pair of T-350 tweets. can trade for equiv value or entertain reasonable price. send PM/email if you have some.
  13. you should also seek the advice of folks who do restoration work if you plan to pay someone to restore...you don't want to get into the situation of being told "had I known before you bought...I would have suggested model X or model Y". If you are going to restore your self....I would stay away from recievers in general if all you want is a tube amp. Recievers have a lot of complex adjustment points than need to be checked after restoration work vs a tube amp which only needs bias, hum pot, and other within reach adjustments once restored. if you though this was going to be a plug and play project...skip it....you are going to need tube testers...cap testers...bias probes...volt meters...Variac's...supply of tubes to mix and match...a statigic plan for adding protective devices like additonal fuses and upgrading circuts to more functional and saf ones..$$$$$.
