  1. I have read for first few pages of comments and felt I needed to chime in. I am not familiar with the denon or marantz receivers. I know that denon came very highly recommended, but I went with a pioneer elite sc-65 and got it for about $550 if I remember right. It is a good receiver and runs very cold (thanks ice amps). If you were willing to step away from the "deal" you get, I would highly recommend the pioneer sc series. As for the speakers, size would not really be a concern when filling an apartment with quality sound. I started with some reference level rsx speakers and they flooded my living room with breath taking sound. The bookshelf sized speakers are mode than enough in most cases and very high in build and sounf quality. I recommend hunting on craigslist, I got lucky and found an entire rf-7 7.1 matched set for 2,000. Yes this is abovery your range, but it just showcases that bang for buck you can find some great deals. My last bit of advice is to think about placement for the surrounds. I can tell you that it is quite important. My brother has a 5.1 Polk audio setup, and his rears are sitting next to his couch (no clearance behind couch). It doesn't sound very good.
  2. I started looking around and it appears the 3d glasses I will need (an-3dg40) is very hard to come by. Anyone know of any 3rd party glasses thatare compatible? From what I understand the g40 is a blue tooth pair of glasses.
  3. As a sharp fan boy this saddens me a little. My first flat panel was a sharp aquos back in 2008. It is still running to this day and last year I added a 70" q+. I need to get some 3d glasses for it. Well it looks like samsung will get all my future business.
  4. Well I picked them up. Definitely don't have the presence of the rf-7 setup downstairs, but they are no slouch either. Curious, between the rb 51ii and the rsx-5, which one is the better speaker (both 75 watts), and would the rb 51 a good match with the 4 rsx-4 speakers and rcx-4 that i currently have to make a 7.1 setup decent? Sonically are they compatible?
  5. Just curious if anyone has heard the rb-51ii and if so, is $120 for a pair a decent price?
  6. As it happens I have one sitting in my basement (unused the past decade). It might need to be re-padded, but overall not bad. Got any speakers to trade?
  7. Definitely the more powerful 63... I have the 65 and it is everything I wanted (until I so separate components). If given the chance at owning a 10 year old Porsche 911 turbo or a brand new mustang, hands down I am going for the Porsche. The thing I have learned in this home theatre side journey is that when it comes to the receiver/pre power, features come and go as technology changes, but power will always reign supreme.
  8. I have the rf-7... sounds silly, but I wish I could get their older smaller brothers (generation 1 reference rf3 setup). I would store them till I could find a use
  9. I think they are fairly beautiful. Few people can appreciate the look of the exotic hard woods.
  10. I will have to try marantz down the road... but for 600, my sc-65 is pleasantly powered and feature rich, and as I said runs very cold (heat is very dangerous for all electronics).
  11. Such a gorgeous turn table
  12. Never anybody passing through nebraska... I would love to find the rsw-15 I have been dreaming of.
  13. Opinions abound, but I saw guardians in theatre and I had to have it. It is one of the least serious/funny marvel movies to date, and fairly true to the source. Only when Deadpool releases will it be topped. I am also a huge Anima fan and own quite a bit of anime, anime movies I have only seen a few of, but one of my all time favorites was princess mononoke. I did see spirited away and it was pretty good, never saw ponyo, and laputa castle in the sky was fairly good as well. Next on my list is to get this attack on titan I hear so much about. That and Rozen Maiden... (must aquire all geneon released titles).
  14. -30 isn't terrible, my hearing is pretty good scrappy, and I am only sitting about 6 feet away from my rf-7s. At -20 the whole house is shaking, and guests think there is a terrible storm or explosions occurring outside the house (when they are upstairs and not watching the movie). As a reference point I consider what factory sound was like, the speakers I have no sound so much better than what I was stuck with for the majority of my life). I suppose my view is the same as with alcohal, I don't need it to have fun... I don't need to damage my ears to have fun either. I cam hear a wide dynamic range with -30 decently, and moving towards -20 it is about maxed out for enjoyment.
  15. I'm usually sitting at the -30 to maybe as high as -20. It really depends on if I want to get my wife's attention or not.
  16. I would recommend a pioneer with the d-class "ice" amps. From a longevity perspective these things should run for years. I have a small onkyo receiver and that thing gets toasty hot when powering 50 watt speakers (just a 2.0 setup). My pioneer elite fires my rf-7s for hours and when I put my hand over the vent, it is barely warmer than room temp... I vote for pioneer elite SC (mine is an sc-65 9.2 channel beast). Deciding factor for mine was the 4k pass through for future proofing as well as the 9.2 channel in case I wanted to increase my arsenal. Steer clear of onkyo/integra... they overheat and are absolute junk.
  17. If you look on the back of said rs-7 you will notice a keyhole mounting bracket. Find a stud in the wall and place at desired height. When you take then down, fill screw hole with a little putty and paint over. Pretty easy.
  18. I was pretty lucky, the 70" sharp q+ has millions of sub pixels which will allow it to come close to the 4k picture if I ever feel the need to try ito out.
  19. I really wish I could get these. Been really eyeing sennhauser, but out of my range for the time being and really wish I could get something other than these crappy ear buds. I need to upgrade my aquarium though...
  20. *circles worm in red* You made a mistake here, time for some punishment... I just watched wrath of the titans, picked it and clash up at the same time since they were cheap and steel books... the film was not very good story wise, or sound wise... but I may be biased since I have spent the last week playing dead space 3 which had amazing sound. Guests kept thinking bombs were going off outside (which is a good reaction in my book).
  21. Yes his character was sinister and we'll spoken, but to me this movie just didn't tie things together well. I suppose I could watch it again to figure out who links to who and what to what, but I doubt it. The moral of the story was clear. Don't get greedy and take silly risks that could ruin your life. I loved Javier in no country for old men. That movie had a bad ending, but he was a bad guy you rooted for, a villain that was more natural force than an individual character
  22. You poor lost soul, I watched it once and that was enough. Poor Penelope, I just can't understand the unprovoked bad things this movie is all about. Just one big game of fish eaten by bigger fish eaten by bigger fish. Last blu ray I watched was vanhelsing, and it seemed very nice. I agree with the godzilla, it did excellent fan service, and the moments when godzilla is introduced areally epic... gets really quiet and then BAM!
  23. The klipsch craze may catch you... just don't judge all of klipsch by the performance of the quintets. They are a fine taste of something much grander.
  24. Bumping this up as I haven't heard back from you.
