How will my system benefit from a tube amp?
Parrot replied to ajcllc's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
mas, When MDeneen calls you a liar, as he does above, you know you've hit a nerve. I predict another meltdown soon. -

See how vitally important it is to have a super tweeter that will go out to 45KHz and an amp that's flat to 100KHz? [] -

If I weren't using high efficiency speakers, I'd certainly use 100W or more. PWK recommended 20W as a *minimum* for his speakers, and I'm fine with 60W. Someone trying to sneak by with 1.5W is severely limiting himself (and limiting the signal). -

It doesn't matter that it is theoretically possible to clip *any* amp under ultra extreme conditions. The real world significance is that it is far easier to clip a 1.5W amp than it is a 20W, or a 100W. SET fans are clipping their amps far more than they realize because of their "soft-clipping" characteristics. They aren't going to sound like the blades of a pair of scissors striking together; they're just going to compress loud signals and get congested. Your example would be like someone who is still tired after sleeping 8 hours, deciding that since he's always going to be tired, he might as well sleep just 1 hour a night. -
MASH sucks.

I don't think it has anything to do with Left Wing, Right Wing. All you have to do is follow the money. Doing that will show who benefits by the hysteria and who does not. Big Oil, the boogie monster to many, has thrown their support to the Stop Global Warming movement. Why? Because of tax breaks being written by Congress right now. Anyway, there has been some discussion here in recent months about rethinking leaving stereo equipment on 24/7 because of supposed environmental effects, so I think it's good to relieve people of that stress. No, I didn't see the Hendrix footage, although I have watched videos of him performing that song at other times.

While your tubes will wear out faster, you need not worry about heating up the world: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9005566792811497638&q=great+global+warming+swindle&hl=en

How will my system benefit from a tube amp?

But is it audiophile grade plywood, or pro grade plywood? Audiophile screws or pro screws? Audiophile glue or Gorilla Glue? Jubilees seem like they're probably as far from audiophile speakers as you could get, whereas, say, the latest flavor of the month little box here, the Tekton/Fostex, would work better for the Stereophile/audio show kind of listener. -

Dean, Can you give us a review of your Jubilees so far? -

mas, Whatever you do, don't bring up the fact that a 6DJ8 is a noisy preamp tube. -
Thanks for asking. I've been outside mostly, enjoying the new spring weather, so not much music yet. But we've got dinner guests arriving in a few minutes, so I think I'll put on an assortment of solo piano records for when we're eating.

Well, at least they asked you politely.

Gosh, mas, if you've had La Scalas since only 1975, how can you possibly compete with Klipsch Experts who've had their speakers for up to two years? We've been told today that Klipsch is best for playing back recordings of 500-piece marching bands at live levels. I can hardly wait for the next similar bit of audiophile wisdom. -
That would make sense. Reading between the lines a little, as you have to in audiophile world, I take it these speakers could be described as "dainty" or "precious." Then with all the descriptions of the speaker's "harshness" under certain conditions, it does seem like powering them with a rolled-off amp would help to tame them.

Well said, Coda. I think of it as a funnier version of the Comedy Channel.

what to think when a $800.00, amp compares to a 5000.00 pair

Speakerfritz, Have you by any chance read the posts above? Three people have mentioned the guitar already. Others have mentioned that it's a fake site. Tell us something new.

No Santa Claus!? Just what exactly are you saying here? I'm not sure I can handle this, if true. -
Uh, oh! I bet you've jinxed it now, Amy, and it will crash in about 3 hours. Flannj, that was great, but awfully cutting. Must've been devastating to hard core Trekkies.

Mark's link should be okay now. It had an extra space at the end. No, he's not 15 mins away from you. He's my neighbor! -
Dtel, Did thermalup send you this by any chance? [] You know, there's only one way to know for sure. Ben, send him $1200 and let us know what happens.

That happens already, about every other weekend. [] When your server takes a nap.
