  1. Hehe so am I, that's why I'd like to make sure I can go back to stock. Bitumex costs a couple bucks so it's not expensive to give it a shot. But I don't expect much from it to be honest especially relative to an actual mod e.g. that kind you offer.
  2. Sorry for rehashing this thread but this is the video that got me onto the Bitumex mod. I was wondering if there is somebody on the forum who has done this mod. My main concern is can this Bitumex stuff be removed again if the effect is not to my liking?
  3. This particular mod works with the original RF-7 only. Is there a particular reason that there is no version of this mod for the RF 7 II?
  4. I think I'll try the Bitumex, it's easily available in Switzerland/Germany. Silicon seal sounds too daunting for me at this point.
  5. Watch Episode 6 of the MTV Show The Challenge Free Agents. Should be available online. Scroll to the quiz part and get ready to face palm.
  6. pb 13 ultra is a good sub but the submersive will put a spanking to it real quick. subversive is one of the best commercially available subwoofers out there. and man you get them in some purdy finishes. Oh stop talking about it I can't buy one yet. But yes it's a very good looking sub on top of the power you get with it. Do you know how it compares to a JTR Captivator?
  7. Yeah the black bar at the bottom. That was before, now there's a layer of transparent resin on it about 1cm thick.
  8. Holy crap it totally worked, sub is dead silent now. I'll still let it dry for the night but it's already solid as a rock! The distributor made it sound like this isn't his first 115 to have this issue. This is what I used btw: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epoxy
  9. Question about "dampening" the horns. What initially got me interested in this was the "scary nails guy video", this Do you think this applies to the RF 7 II as well? I'm scared to try though because how would I get the Bitumex off again if I don't like the mod?
  10. It's my first "big" sub in my own living room/HT so I can't really compare it to anything directly. The only thing that I heard so far that sounded bigger better etc was custom built stuff but I don't have the time/knowledge/space for that (or space for second 115 for that matter) so I'm happy with it. I would like to give SVS PB Ultra 13 a try as well as a Seaton Submersive. Both of those are about 2000 so different price level. Haven't heard anything better for the price of the 115 so far.
  11. No the sub starts rattling at very reasonable listing levels so def not overdriving it. At this point I'm also pretty sure that it has nothing to do with the backplate but the chassis/body of the sub. That rattling sounds wooden. I talked to the German distributor and he was pretty sure what it was. If you reach into the sub and then down (from the back) there's a small black bracket/bar. Something like this (just the wood): http://www.stair-rodsdirect.co.uk/assets/images/products/full/bracket%20brass%20front3.jpg That's the part that's supposedly causing the noise. He recommend to angle the sub upwards and pour a special kind of resin down there and leave it to dry for 24h. Gave it a try, will report back in a day.
  12. Right so the sub should be able to handle the settings I'm running it at correct? EDIT: I'm just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong but I don't think I'm "abusing" the sub.
  13. So the title pretty much says it. My SW 115 has started rattling. I removed the backplate and held it while running a scene that I noticed the rattle with. There is no rattle unless the backplate is connected/screwed to the body of the sub which makes me think that's where the rattle comes from. But when I shake the backplate (or the sub for that matter) I hear nothing. Will try to get a sound sample later. Bought the sub in Germany so I'd like to avoid having to ship it if I can but the at the same time I have no idea what it could possibly be. The only thing I can think of is that the sub is simply running too hot. Gain is on 10-11 o clock position and Audyssey set Bass to -10.5 db (normally I try set the gain so that Audyssey sets it to +/-3 db but I forgot and haven't had time yet to remeasure). It only seems to rattle on the very low end. Any help is appreciated.
  14. Yeah the pinpoint model is the only one I could find. Good to hear that I won't need to drill into the speakers thank you.
  15. No let's not. Do you not see it? Now imagine this on a large screen or TV. PC with a higher and more stable framerate than the PS, with a higher resolution if you have the rig for it but even at 1080p it's easy to tell. What convenience were you talking about? Were you aware of the fact that a lot of people play the same games you play on consoles on PC with the same controller on the same device (tv/beamer) when you commented?
  16. That statement is, the first part at least, completely wrong. And I don't mean this an a "everybody has their own opinion kind of way, it's just false objectively speaking. I actually think the whole statement is wrong tbh.PC still is king of graphics by a large margin. I have no idea what would make you think otherwise. Recent years have shown time and time again that the weak link in pushing graphics in mainstream games to next level is consoles. There are so many stories of crappy ports for PC because the game was developed for consoles not PC. After console release PC gets the port which is often a minor improvement to console level but stands in no comparison to what the PC would be capable of. The difference between a game that is specifically being developed for PC is like night and day. GTA V will be released for Next Gen I'm sure hopefully theyre also working on a native PC version which will the Next Gen Version look like garbage. Developers have gotten better with it but it's clear that consoles are holding PCs back and the reason is simple: money, there is more money in consoles. Now let's not compare apples and oranges. Either we are looking at a sitting at a table setup for both PC and consoles or we're looking at couch/HT setup. For both PC wins. Have you looked at console graphics up closely? Even on X1 and PS4 everything looks muddy compared to PC on top of fact that consoles are still struggling to pull of steady 30 or 60fps. So in the sitting/table situation with a PC sized monitor PC wins not a big suprise there. Now let's move to the couch. The only things thats easier about a console is the UI designed for consoles but even there there is Steams Big Picture which can be entirely operated by controller and the need to keep the PC updated and install the games. Otherwise there is nothing so def not light years ahead I wouldn't even call it ahead. You can use either mouse/keyboard with a PC or original PS3/4 etc controllers. Most PC games support them natively within the game so no trouble there. On consoles on the other hand you're forced to play with controllers all the time. Now let me ask you this, why would you spend all that money on great HT gear and then buy a cheap 400 dollar avg "pc" box and defend it against an actual high end gaming rig? For people who spend 10-20k (not saying you did) on their HT and are into gaming consoles shouldn't even be an option. The only reason I own consoles is because I'm forced to to play the some of the exclusives and to play with some friends. EDIT: Forgot the obvious, much higher resolutions (ingame as in textures sound etc) as well as resolutions itself up to 4k if you're going for a high end rig, possibity to upgrade rig, not depending on sony/ms for every patch codec and format And in case it wasn't clear. The PC is connected to the Beamer/Tv in the couch scenario
  17. I think mounting the RB 61s for HT is the way to go but I'm having trouble finding a wall mount for them. I've only found solutions by B-Tech where you sort of squish the speakers into the mounts. Additionally you could then drill into the speakers which I don't want to do. Are there any wall mounts out there that use the 2 screw holes on the back of the speaker?
  18. It doesn't matter from where you ship within the US, it matters that you're shipping from the US in general. It's best to use UPS or Fedex because when using USPS (if even possible) the shipping is more likely to get spammed with lots of additional taxes etc at customs. Both UPS and Fedex are crazy expensive. Another thing is Switzerland is one of the few countries that has a weight tax. A weight tax is an absolute horror for somebody like me who's interested in speakers subs and amps. There are "intermediate" shipping companies but I haven't found a good one that's actually cheaper than UPS etc. So thank you very much for trying but unfortunately there is no way to do it. I could almost buy a pair of RB 61 for the shipping costs.
  19. So I just installed the 52s and I'm already very happy with the result. I do have a followup question about the RB 61/81. My 52s are about 40-60cm above ear level. Now for the rears I have read recommendations for both set them at ear level and set them at the same height as the surrounds so I'm not sure what to do. In case of ear level I would also need to order some stands. Visually I would prefer at ear level on stands but if same height as the surrounds is clearly superior I would probably hang them on the wall. Any input is appreciated.
  20. Would buy but I'm based in Switzerland so shipping costs will be killer, 200+. On top of that I don't know how much of a hassle it is for a seller to ship internationally. Looks like a good deal.
  21. Let's face it: I have to get both to know. My bedroom setup will be powered by two UPA 1 (200w) monos so I'm leaning towards the 81. I will report back and introduce myself properly once my setup is "presentable".
  22. Well then maybe I should start by getting the 81 and see how they are in the bedroom. I plan to add a small sub to the bedroom set up so it wouldn't be just the RB. I'm just worried that they're overkill since I'm using one of these: It's made for Audio production (i just use it as a regular desk) so the speakers are quite close when sitting at the desk. Could this be a problem?
  23. Thanks very much for the offer but I'm looking for the black version. But even if they were black shipping costs are killer. It's actually what keeps me from ordering my Emotiva gear. If I import the RB81 pair from Germany I'm able to get them for about $680 which seems to be a good price I realize now. RB 61 pair would be about $350. Seems like you guys are leaning towards the 81 but the 61 will be fine. The sub/crossover argument makes a lot of sense. I'll probably get the 61 first. That way I can still move the 61 to bedroom and get the 81 later on.
  24. Hi YouthMan Thanks for the quick response. Yeah that's what I keep telling myself so I've sort of accepted the RS 52. What's your opinion on my RB 61 / 81 situation? EDIT: Seeing as your running a 200w Sherbourn, will I be alright running the 52 with a XPA 5, or could I blow the speakers at high volumes?
  25. Hi guys Long time lurker here. I started getting into "HiFI" about 2 years ago when I bought my RF 82 II. Had them for a year and actually sold them for a profit and upgraded to the RF 7 II. Bought a SW 115 and a RC 62 II with the 82. Upgraded to the RC 64 this year. I'm based in Switzerland so everything is a bit more expensive here and I'm still going to college so I always have some time to think between purchasing the next part. Now I want to go from 3.1 to 5.1 or maybe 7.1 right away. Due to room constraints (width) I will have to go with the RS 52 II as sides. Seeing that Klipsch sells the Set with the RS 62 kinda bums me out that I won't sound good but that's probably just in my head. My question is about the rears. I've read recommendations to go with RS speakers for both sides and wides but my rears will be a bit further away (rectangular room 40 sm, sitting in the middle of the room, rears all the way to the back) so I feel RB will be a better choice, also: looks. I could fit and afford the 61 II aswell as the 81 II. What is there to consider? Is it pointless to get the 81 with the 52? I'd rather get the 61 due to size/style. I'd appreciate any help. Regards Sev EDIT: By room constraints I mean the following. My living room used to be two rooms so theres two doors. The wall between those doors is the only place to fit the speaker. I could fit the 62 but I will just look really crappy.
