  1. Funny, has been a while since I logged in as well. Work got in the way. Good to see your back at it. Keep it up looks fantastic. I learned so much doing the wiring in my last basement. Amazed at the shortcuts some people take instead of taking the time and doing it correctly.

Let us know what you think of them when you have them hooked up with the new amp. I went the cheap route and picked up a pair of the Onkyos. I have yet to have the time to play and recalibrate them. Once I move, I will add an amp to the X4100 and do 5.1.4.
  3. Fantastic looking setup gadgtfreek!!! Fantastic equipment. How does it sound?
  4. Looks like it is going to be a great setup. I love the cherry 7s!!! Enjoy!!
  5. Curious, is it similar to Spotify where you can download all you want to your device, but once you cancel, you can no longer access the music through the app since it authorizes every time you open the app?
  6. Have you noticed it sounding better since you are using the DAC in the Oppo?
  7. I use the premium service. Your right, free is castrated. I really like the higher bitrate. Very noticable.
  8. I use Spotify through AirPlay. It sounds ok for casual listening. I definitely wouldn't say it sounds great. I am also listening on the THX system which is average at best for music. Movies are another story. [emoji3]
  9. I understood that AirPlay sends a digital stream and the DAC in the AVR would be used. I agree for critical listening a external DAC is necessary, but casual listening it works fine for me. YMMV
  10. I am far from an expert. I am sure others can provide more information, but I believe it works fine as long as you are running ITunes on the PC.
  11. Another option is an Apple TV. You will have access to your library on your laptop as well as other streaming options such as netflix etc. You can pick up an Apple TV for $69 now.
  12. I had mine attached to the inside of the cabinet door. Worked for everything except for my cable box. Had to attach the repeater directly on the IR receiver. Some equipment can see about anything, while others were a little more touchy. I played around with placement before it was pretty consistent. I am sure the stregth of the repeater/blaster makes a big difference.
  13. Ha! The RF-42ii looks like a toy in that picture...
  14. I had a Xantech. USNRET jogged my memory. Worked very well.
  15. I have never used the Monoprice repeater. I had a very expensive one years ago and it looks very similar to the Monoprice repeater. I don't think you can go wrong with any Monoprice product. I have had very good luck with all of my Monoprice products. I liked the repeater better then the RF to IR blaster. Took a while to get used to the delay on the RF to IR conversion.
  16. Thanks Gary!! Will take a look at the Cooper book. I knew there were proportions to stay away from, but didn't know the exact equation to avoid. Not to offend anyone that does this, but I am amazed how many people put their flat screens above the fireplace. I have see some that the bezel of the tv is touching the ceiling.
  17. No worries Edgar. I have looked at a few homes with bonus rooms. I really like the idea of a ranch with a basement. Second choice would be something like a bonus room above the garage. The thing I would love about a bonus room is actually having the theater on a suspended floor. As has been talked about in other threads. You miss some of the tactile joys of subs on a concrete slab. Using one of the garage bays is not an option as I have a love for autos and a project car will be in my future as well as a motorcycle.
  18. I would take a basment any day in a tornado. I have lived in tornado territory all my life. I am about 15 miles from the river. If it floods that far, I think an arc may be necessary
  19. Congrats Budman!!! Are you going to do a build thread?
  20. I did see a new construction that had a basement and it had a room excavated under the garage. Three car garage to boot. I thought the same thing. Great bunker for a home theater. Heavy door and it would be very soundproof. If I can have my way, I would do a home theater and 2 channel in the same room. Would love to have some Khorns for 2 channel with some tubes. I almost bought a pair of Khorns in 86, but bought an engagement ring instead. Man hindsite really is 20/20...
  21. I should also point out I live in a community of 3,700. Moved here after living in Lincoln and Omaha Nebraska for 25 years, so a little bit of a culture shock of living in a smaller community. Also greatly reduces the homes on the market.
  22. Chris - There will be 4 of us in the house. My new wife's 21 year old son and 15 year old daughter. I love your room. Scrappy - Live between Columbia and Jeff City off 63. Maybe 10% of the homes have basements in this area. Amazing the amount of money they want to but a basement on a new construction. I built my first 3 homes, so still an option, but not sure I feel comfortable with the builders around here. A couple are just not good.
  23. Curious if everyone here is similar to me in that one of the first things you look for in a new home is the potential for a theater setup. I relocated to Missouri a couple of years ago after a divorce. The thing that is difficult to get used to is there are very few basements in this community. That greatly affects my ability to have a dedicated room. Have others been faced with this delima? How do you manage the fact that the equipment may be in an everyday living space. Pre-divorce I had a decent dedicated home theater setup. Unfortunately, I walked away with just my THX speakers. JVC projector, Onkyo 3007, and Emotiva XPA-3 are gone. Would love to get some advice. Thanks. Mark
  24. That should be an excellent project. Huge fan of JVC. Take a look at this thread. http://tinyurl.com/qddswbj Didn't have time to dig through it, but if you haven't looked here, there is probably some excellent calibration advice. Let us know how it turns out! Good luck!
