  1. I know a guy in Brookfield Wisconsin (Milwaukee) who is very interested in a KLF C7 Medium Oak. Post the scoop! Thank You!
  2. I will have to do that. I think I may have to go listen to some of everything. Then when I get a few ideas I can post witch ones I liked to get some responses from people who maybe have that equipment hooked up to their horns. J-M I'll email you this week sometime to setup a time that is good for both of us.
  3. With my up coming purchase of some k-horns, I want some new equipment to power them with. Right now I have some old Pioneer Elite stuff (cd player, receiver) with my Heresy II's, I have no complaints about the sound, I guess it is just the audio bug that wants me to buy new stuff (all of you know what I mean). The question is SS or Tube... It will be 50/50 HT and 2ch. I am not looking to spend a whole bunch here, around $1,500 or $2,000. I have absolutely no experience with Tubes. except for guitar pre-amps. I will do some searches on the forum about the little questions. I guess I just want some opinions on tube amps. What are the best for the money. The corvette or the tube amps... still get blown away by the Ferrari, porsche, and the Lambo's... but enough to kick some @$$. Another thought was going with a tube preamp and a SS amp, so I could get the tube sound, yet still have the power of a SS. ????? Any thoughts?????
  4. To relieve stress, do NOT recharge your Alnico magnet once a day!
  5. J-M You sure do know your stuff! I'll run a search for those chamber results. If I translate this right... Klipsch used the old k-horns with the M and V drivers with the AA network(second A is the tweeter protection model of the A networks) as a template for the F and X drivers with the AK-4 network... does that sound about right? Whatever k-horn I get, I am sure that it will sound great. What I am thinking about is getting an older k-horn and do what I can, within economic reason, to tweak em' as best I can. And then use the money I would save to either get some SS seperates, or to get a decent tube setup. Then when I get serious cash, I can use the old pair for a 2nd system to tweak with, and get some new ones for the serious system.
  6. The new crossover points are because of the new drivers. I suspect the change occured 2003 when the line was reintroduced. If these new line of k-horns are that much better than the originals, as a selling point maybe Klipsch should release frequency response graphs to compare the two to each each other. Why wouldn't they, ....could it be that the originals would have a flatter response than the new line!
  7. Does the addition of a zener diode on an AA network protect the tweeter from the overload discussed previously?
  8. who is being welcomed artto? I've been here since 1999.
  9. I have no debt. After all of the scholarships I recieved I was + $4,000 a year at school. Plus I worked every summer since I was 16. How much does AL Klapp charge for these ALK networks? Has anyone hooked two different networks up to the k-horn and used a switch of some kind to just switch back and forth whenever they wanted? Or would the crossover not in use put some sort of draw sitting on the other side of the circuit? Just a crazy idea. J-M I am so mad I missed the get together a month or two ago. I will have to stop by and check em out. I to am going for an all heritage system.
  10. I would be renting a house with 2 of my friends. I have already explained to them that if possible the k-horns would get their own room. What would be the difference between these ALK networks I hear so much about and the AK-3 and AK-4? Is their any method to the naming of these beasts?
  11. Believe it or not Fini but I thought of it. I have been into car audio for some time now. Image dynamics made some horns for automotive use. I saw a picture of it the other day and it sparked my creative side. i thought of taking some heresy's and mounting the tweets where the dash meets the door and the mid's under the glove compartment like the image dynamics. I would use some Rockford Fosgate Power 6 1/2's and Rockford Fosgate punch 5 1/4's in the door, then putting the low's in the back deck, and using some Vega series 12's in a huge ported box in the trunk for 50hz and below. Ahh how the mind will wonder!
  12. Thanks for all of the responses so far! For the record, I will be buying a used Lincoln LS for around $20,000 not a New new one, but new compared to the vehicles I had been driving. Thanks for all the welcomes to the chicago are! Although I have not moved there yet, soon enough I will be there. I'll finally be away from all these damn cheeseheads!!! Ok the k-horns, I have heard of all of these crossover types before, but I never really gave them attention since I don't have k-horns. I believe my Heresy II's have type "EE." They were made in 87 or 88 (too lazy to check right now). Can someone give me a quick rundown of the types? I have the basic electronics knowledge to understand them, I just don't know the differences. Also, what year did current drivers start showing up in the k-horns. What year did the K-77-F and the k-55-X go into production? Are they significantly better than years past? I believe the K-33-E is standard throughout correct (besides the 60's versions). Could it be that the "A" Network, in an 88-89 horn, would out-perform a 2004 k-horn? And what would cost $5,000 in getting the "same" performance as a 2004? The way I look at it, if a better sound can be produced from an older k-horn with an updated ALK network, then klipsch needs to tighten up the supply chain and look into some different pricing strategies for the 2004 line. Although if Klipsch doesn't turn a high profit on the 2004's, (and they are in it for the money and not in it to provide the flagship product that made the compnay what it is today) then the 2004 line is dropped and the price of a used k-horn goes up to $6,750. Then the consumer is really in a bind. AHHH the double edged sword of business today! What up?
  13. I am finally looking to buy some k-horns! The thing is I am a recent grad who really doesn't have loads of money. I have a lot for my situation, but still not rich by any means. The thing is I am buying a new Lincoln, and have to pay chicago rent. So what I am wondering is if I buy a used pair from the 80's (same as my Heresy II's) will I have to make any crossover / driver replacements / enhancements to make them sound as good as the best K-horn? I would sacrifice a few dings for 3 or 4 thousand dollars. But the sound is what matters. Thanks
  14. I live in Mayville Wisconsin. 40 minutes north of Milwaukee. 2 hours 15 minutes from Chicago. Hoffman estates is 40 minutes north west of Chicago. Simply stereo is the first place anywhere around the Wisconsin Illinois area that demos them. I told the guy at SImply stereo that they must be the only place that has them between Minnesota and Chicago... he said he has heard that from almost everyone who goes in looking for a pair. If you can't get to Simply Stereo to hear them, try and find someone on the forum who has a pair around your area. I'm sure they would have no problem showing off their system. Or look for postings from people who have annual Heritage get togethers.
  15. going back as soon as I get $6,750. Then I'll also have to wait the 16 weeks it takes Klipsch to make and deliver. Has anyone ever put the new k-horns up against a vintage k-horn? I really would like some oak oiled horns, but klipsch now only makes lacquered versions.
  16. They have a lot of high end, everything from Sunfire, to Martin Logan, to Klipsch heritage and Reference. They have 3 rooms but I never left the one with the K-horns in it. I was impressed by their selection of amplifiers. although they did not carry any tube amps, they did carry Carver's Signature series amp. The only thing I put them up against were the Reference 7 towers and the Martin Logan (can't remember which ones). In my opinion The k-horns killed the Logans. The reference line kept up with them a bit in the fact that they didn't show as many flaws in the recordings. Even when listening to SACD's, you hear EVERY imperfection in the recording with the k-horns, not so much with the reference line. But as far as reproducing without coloration, the k-horn with a seemingly effortless performance took it hands down. And the RF7's looked a little dwarfed when put up against a k-horn. All demos were done with Carver Symphany Reference pre amp and 250W Carver Symphany Reference amp. But one of the funnest parts of the trip was interacting with the staff from Simply Stereo. They have a realy down to earth demeanor. Ken Schauer in particular has been wt\ith Klipsch for a long time. He has an autographed PWK picture of Paul sitting on a Heresy II... NOT FOR SALE When we walked in I figured they would let me listen to them while he stood over me. But he gave me the remote to the Carver and said "Crank em'!, I'll be out here if you have any questions." We sat and played various cd's and SACD's for about and hour with no pushing or objections from Ken. About $6,750 for the pair, no longer available in an oil finish. Everything is Lacquer. As we left he said "if you are ever bored stop on by again and we'll crank em' up and shoot the **** for awhile!" If you are in the neighborhood stop by 1280 W. Higgins Rd Hoffman Estates, IL ask for Ken Schauer, a truely stand up Klipsch fan! Can't stress that enough!
  17. OK I'll be back in a bit!!!!!!
  18. I am going to Simply Stereo in Hoffman Estates tomorrow. Anything in particular you want me to demo against? questions to ask?
  19. Right now I have my Heresy II's on 24 inch Lovan Ballet III speaker stands with all 5 pillars filled to the top with lead shot. They do an awesome job. I have no complaints about them at all. The 24 inches puts them in the best possible height for my listening position. Here is the deal. My brother is looking for some stands for his system. I was thinking of selling my Lovans' to my brother and buying another pair for my heresy's. I would only do that if there is a better stand out there. I think I saw "target" or "targa" (something like that) stands about 3 years ago, but I can't find them anywhere. I would be looking for 24 inch, HEAVY, fillable stands with a significant spike on them. Anyone have any ideas, or experience with some great stands. What are you using. I do not like the klipsch heresy angled risers. Although Once I get some K-horns, I will move the Heresy's to the rear and use the slant risers on the side of the heresy's and attach them to the ceiling. (I saw someone else did that on this forum, GREAT IDEA!!!!!)
  20. Yes they did have a quality problem with the 5.1 systems shipped before January 13th(I believe) 2003. Or check your S/N. 03-A were the first of the fixed systems to go out. a 02-X will most likely have a short lifespan. From what I have experienced Klipsch has dealt with this problem very well. Although others have had problems years back and have had to buy another system that also blew months later. I contacted Klipsch and they sent me a new system. No problems since, although it is not hooked up at the moment .
  21. If the worker was in a situation where he sold the promedia 5.1 systems before 2003, then he has seen A LOT of broken systems. Not the voice coils melting ...... which I highly doubt...... but amplifier problems. Or if he sold a lot of the LF series subwoofers. As you recall they also had a problem. I believe it was mainly the seals and the cabinet and around the woofer that just gave out. Anyways, those were some instances where klipsch had faults.
  22. You may want to try Blue-Tac. It is that stuff you may have used to hang up posters etc on your walls. Do you stands have spikes that go into the ground to isolate your stand from the ground? Basically you want a very rigid structure with the most isolation. I have Lovan stands with three 1.5 inch spikes anchoring them to the ground. I have filled the stands with lead shot making the stand more rigid and anchored. The lead shot also prevents resonance inside of the stand. Then I have blue-tac mounting my heresy II's to the top plate. This blu-tac stuff is pretty handy. It prevents the speaker from shifting on or falling from the stand, and it also adheres very strong making the stand and speaker "one."
  23. If I get the picture correct, the tear is in the paper cone. 2 inches is pretty big, so replacement will probably be the best answer (recone, replace, depending on the age \ condition of the driver). If it is a "tear" or "rip" and not a clean "cut" it will be easier to repair for the time being. If it is tore, and it has overlapping material, you may be able to just put on some super-glue or something similar. The glue must dry very hard yet not brittle, but it also has to be light so no to throw off the suspension. If it is a cut like from a knife and there is no overlapping material it will be more difficult. I like the rolling paper idea, you may want to try that. I myself have never tried it but it sounds like a great idea! Plus it is a downward firing sub so you won't be able to see the fix. Reconing or replacing is still the best option if possible. hope this helps
  24. Frzninvt I see you have a 15 DVC Kicker in you system. Is the "S" "L" in the model number for the solobaric? If not what model is it? Also do you find that the kicker, although loud and efficient, may be a little boomy. I would think that it has a pretty low Qts. Just wondering. I have a couple JL 15W6's sitting here. I have always wondered about making a horn type sub system with them. Not horn loaded like the Klipsch's but basically having the port use a folded horn. ????? I haven't really researched it much....
  25. Small small world. Even smaller cause I have talked to a number of people at AccuVal, their headquarters is in Mequon, but they also have offices all over... Chicago, Atlanta, etc etc. And one of my good friends from Mayville works for them. Wow for Mayville being a small town, we sure do get around. Damon - What is this you don't like SuperTroopers!!!!!! THat movie is great. Granted it tails off at the end, but there are some great clips in that movie! "pull your vehicle over to the side of the road! I'm already pulled over, tell them I'm already pulled over! He's already pulled over, he can't pull over any further!" ha ha ha MEOW!!!!! What year did you graduate, where you at not, doin' what, etc etc. I played ball there so if you went to any basketball game from 98-99 thru 02-03 you probably have saw me already. J/M I have a little something I'm going to bring along that I made. Don't worry you don't eat it, or drink it, but we can watch it(no it's not a porn either).
