  1. I am bored so I plan on building some la scalas to ease my mind. Although I know that it will probably make me mad in the process. I was looking at some plans and I have a question. In my plans the wedge right in front of the throat is cut straight across. Is that right? Wouldn't it be a smoother horn if there were wedge openings cut into the top and bottom so the 60 degree wedges from the top and bottom flanges could fit into it. I hope that is clear I was also wondering if there are cheap driver and crossover replacements available. I have built many advanced "boxes" (no horns) in the past, so if I screw up or make a "half ***" one I don't want to be out a lot of money with the drivers. Parts Express has a lot of equipment but if anyone could let me know the Thiel/Small parameters of the K-33-E and mid and high specs of the K-55-E and the K-77-E that would help out a lot. Like I said this will be my fist horn. I would like to use them just for something to play loud at parties etc. ANY help or info from anyone would be greatly appreciated. 2. Just curious on what products you people trust on your heritage line? So far Holloway House Oil has been working pretty good for my Heresy II's. Just kind of looking for some ideas on oils and wood treatments for the heritage line. Gotta love the Heritage... thank god they are back.
  3. Acoustic Research has this product out. Just want to hear anyones advise on it. I got my tax return, and it's buring a hole in my pocket. check it out
  4. I was just wondering how this is done. My dvd player is able to play mp3 (so it says). In what way do you burn the mp3's on a disc. In my cd burner software there is no option for burning mp3's. I have an option of a cd that will be able to be played in all cd player, or a data disc that can be used in compatible computers. What do I do. It won't let me select and audio cd, and then add mp's... only wav's.
  5. Lets see a car system that matches a Klipsch. Well start with a great midrange-high set-up. Go with the image dynamics, they sound great, as do the dynaudio. If you don't want it so harsh in such a enclosed area you could get one horn and set it in the middle under the dash. Much like a center channel. You could do this with numerous 3ch amps available. And with some MB in the door and some custom made x-overs, your front stage should be set. Xtant makes some great amps that have a nice mellow sound to them. The first time a heard one I thought that it may have had some tubes... no such luck. But it sounds great. As for subs, if you like the tight punch and low wow/flutter of a klipsch speaker than go with a PPI flat sub in a sealed box with penty of power. These Precision Power subs are one of the cleanest subs I have ever heard for a car. The 10's are a nice blend although some like the 12's. Power the subs with enough watts from a high quality amp, and run the whole setup from a reciever/pre-amnp from Clarion Pro and U R in business. Just an idea
  6. I'm looking forward to the mini bar. And of course the big horns. There will be some great seminars to attend to. Wow, who would have thought a college guy would choose Midwest Audiofest for a Spring Break destination. I'm hoping to see some Klipsch speakers with thier grills off. 7. I sure hope they do show up with the Jubilees. I would love to hear that! And I would also love to hear the Khorns. I probably heard every home speaker Klipsch makes except for the most important one. Thats no good. I gotta hear one.
  8. Have any of you been to it? My friend and I are trying to plan on going this year. Neither of us have ever been there. It does sound like fun though. Hopefully I'll make it.
  9. Horns Horns Horns!!!!! The Midwest Audiofest in Lima Ohio March 29-30th. Check it out. It should be a good time. http://www.midwestaudiofest.com
  10. Gotta love them KLIPSCH!!!!!!! ------------------ Heresy II (Oak Oil) ZSeries Hotwired Lovan Ballet III stands KLF-C7 (Med Oak) KSW15
  11. I enjoy every possible type of music out there. If it has some sort of rythm or melody then I am there. I love some rap music (yes "MUSIC"), I even enjoy a little Britney every now and again. Everything from classical, rap, country, punk, blues, jazz, big band, alternative, pop, 60's, 70's, 80's, and all in between. And I believe they are ALL music. Some rap does sound like crap, but so does some blues, and some alternative. Every genre of music is gonna have some songs that sound like Sh**. If it's got a beat it's music, if it's music I love it. ------------------ Heresy II (Oak Oil) ZSeries Hotwired Lovan Ballet III stands KLF-C7 (Med Oak) KSW15
  12. My C7 arrived at my front door today. WoW I love it already. Just beautiful. As soon as I got it unboxed, I installed it and listened to some pep band type of music. Trumpets, horns, flutes, etc. In only tow hours I noticed an incredible difference in the sound. I am done now for tonight, but I was just wondering about after how many hours will this be complete?
  13. Yes, the point of these systems is to say "hey I can hit 160 or 180 or whatever and win some trophies doing it. And you are sadly mistaken when you say there is no money involved. To enter a contest it costs money... I don't know of too many that would drive to a show and push their systems to the max without some reward. Many competitors are paid and endorsed by large companies to enter in these sound offs. ANd it's a pretty damn good marketing campain by them. Cerwin Vega is known for breaking SPL records. If someone wants low bass, they're probably going to look at Cerwin if they know anything about the industry. Also if you weren't so close-minded maybe you would also see that these shows not only do SPL but also sound quality. It's competition!!!!! Bragging rights!!!!!! 190db is about one person being louder than the next. Make your system sound the best to "YOUR" ears. A lot of young teens like rap music, and most rap music has a lot of bass. Thats what a lot of teens ears like. I thought TheEar could understand that. No, I'm not talking about "listneing" at 190db, but your so called WOOFAZ ON WHEELZ. If thats what you like then do it. Those who get into that type of stuff would probably thrash your ideas on "sound reproduction." They could say "if you wanted to hear it how it really sounds, go sit and listen to an orchestra with parents." Meanwhile they will have fun doing what they enjoy. "Thanx" Just defending my opinion.
  14. That rockford fosgate "van" you speak of is actually a blazer. And the Cerwin Vegas they are using are "Strokers." Phase 2 of the system. He "used" to have RF subs. These Cerwin subs have dual spiders on them, one under the cone as usuall, and one instead of a dust cap. There is also a guide poll that is an extention of the magnet that sticks out were the dust cap would be. This is all used to control the cone at these insane volumes. Each can handle 1600watts RMS 4800 max. And they are surprisingly clean. And as far as listening to these systems at that level is rare. Since market SPL meters usually don't reach these high SPL levels, Professional meters are used at sound offs. During these evens nobody is allowed inside the car. And usually listening to these systems while driving would be incredibly studpid, because no aftermarket alternator can supply power to the batteries for that long. I believe when the RF Blazer broke 190, it had to be hauled away because it would not start. I do enjoy incredible bass in my car. But by no means is my car muddy, or a poor reproduction of music. Tell that to: 3 8inch mid bass drivers under each seat, 2 6.5 midrange drivers, 1 5.25 high midrange drivers, and 2 1inch tweets in each door. Oh yes and 1 "Sound Dynamics" horn, yes "horn" under each side of the dashboard. Although I would agree that most bass rides you hear are the cheap bandpass sub boxes with the factory mid and highs. Sorry for turing this into a Car audio string for a post or two.
  15. I also was glad to see that it didn't buy in to too much action. Everything was real time, no slow mo or panning effects. Just a good overall movie. I haven't seen any of those in a while.
  16. Boa12 you been to "THE BIG GIG?" what a good time huh? Yes that beer is fresh too! Although it is hard to tell after so many. Last year I was in attendance all 11 days, and I was out quit a bit of money. Beer and Food prices is obviously were they make their income to get these great bands. At $4 a beer it adds up. I can't wait already!!!!!!
  17. I just got back from seeing The Count of Monte Cristo. Wow what a good movie. In my opinion so far the best movie of 2002... ok not much to choose from. But I just wanted to hear if anyone else on this BB has seen it.
  18. Ok I haven't had the time to read all of the post here but as soon as I read the original post only one thing came to my mine... Only the best damn holiday of the year!!!! SUMMERFEST in Milwaukee WI only the largest outdoor music festival on the planet! Unreal, some of the bands I have seen there are as follows: Blink 182 Def Leppard Styx Bon Jovi Kenny Chesney Tim McGraw Santana Destiny's Child REO Speedwagon Journey The BoDeans Britney Spears Christina Aguliera Third Eye Blind The Beach Boys Hooty and the Blowfish And my favorite band of all time "The LoveMonkeys" These are only to name a few. Take it from me if you have the chance this summer between June 27 and July 7 come check it out. It is unreal. A stage for every type of music, and it's on Milwaukee's Lakefront. http://www.summerfest.com best damn holiday of the year
  19. I put my babies on Lovan Ballet III speaker stands(24inches). They sound great. Less room resonance bass. Tighter more focused bass. These stands were bought from AudioAdvisor.com for a great price. Each stand has 5 steel polls that can be filled. I filled mine with lead shot. Man were they heavy. They also have a triangular base with large spikes that anchor them. And for a touch of class they have 18K gold caps on the tops of the spikes. I love em'. Also if you use speaker stands, use blu tac compound to adhere the speaker to the stand. Very sticky yet does not leave an oily residue on your finish.
  20. probably around 100, And I believe it will be pushing less amps. Not sure about that though, I'm still trying to capture that idea after a H/K rep got me all confused. oh well. But yeah if that amp thing is right then you would be getting about the same watts to your one sub but less amps. Cause the wattage would be split between the two paralleled subs. 180/2=90watts. Hope that helps, and is right. If that amp thing is wrong somebody please straighten me out cause that guy from h/k was saying some stuff that really got me confused.
  21. Yes tman is right about the 8ohm load. about the full range signal there is a way around it. You are using these as B fronts I assume? I could be wrong. But for the fequency problem you could get a choke coil from radio shack fro a few dollars and hook that up on the positive terminal. I know that these don't have a particularly quick rolloff that is usually wanted, but it should give you a little help.
  22. I use the KSW 15 with my heresy II's and I found it works quit well. Good for movies, but for music I just set the crossover down lower (can't remember off hand what). That way I keep the punchy clean bass from the Heresy's yet extend the lower end with the 15. This was hard to achieve without a drop in db around 50hz, but I think I got it pretty well tweaked. I'd agree the 15 is a little (A LITTLE) slow for music. Probably do to the downward firing design and the large 15 inch cone. The larger the surface area of the cone the harder it is to get a clean sound out of it. My very good friend owns the KSW 12 and it sounds very nice. Not as loud or as low as the 15 but possibly an option for you. Hope I helped a little
  23. Yeah you're right it's not real cane but the brown woven material that looks much like it.
  24. Ah yes Blade, great flick on DVD. I hear there coming out with another one. Could be just rumor though. Don't know how I forgot that one.
  25. Back to the original question. How loud? Well about 160.32db.... Wait thats my car audio system. Ooops, but my Pair of Heresy II's, KLF C7, and KSW15 do the job in the home. Haven't measured it yet with the Radio shack SPL meter. Maybe that will be my project tonight.
