  1. With the focals ... we sat about 12-14 feet from them . they have adjustable headsets , of which are cranked to an angle that suits the seated position in the room . This room was appox 16x16 My current room : is 24x20 with 4 korns and a seated position at 12 feet and well below the angle of the headsets , I can discern the direction or origin of incoming signal I can tell where my signal originates ... I don't have the illusion of a lead singer standing front and center .
  2. They call me trinity ....
  3. Have to disagree .. obviously you've never experienced what I'm explaining ... I've got 10's of thousands of FLAC files and run what is arguably the finest Bryston digital player on the market , top of the line VPI table and a HDCD worth more than my pickup truck ... It's not source dependent .... It's a combination of room treatments , speakers and amps . Tonight I was at my best friends place , his room is full of treatments .. his gear is top of the line krell mono blocks feeding a pair of Focals worth about as much as I paid for my first house 20 years ago ... The music was right there in my face ... I could see the towers standing in the corners yet I couldn't hear the music coming from them .. it was being projected directly in front of me ... absolutely an amazing listening experience . nothing I've ever came close to in the past 30 years of being faithful to k-horns , belles . lascala's , cornwalls and or hersey's . I'm not slamming any klipsch gear .. I've owned everything klipsch has even made ... just never reached this level of amazing before
  4. How many of you have actually experienced a 2 channel system with amazing soundstage imagining ... By that I mean sitting in a room with a 2 channel setup that puts vocals right infront of your face with no trace of the source , yet can still maintain left and right soundstage separation . I find it an amazing experience every time I listen to a dialed in 2 channel setup that I can close my eyes and feel like there is a stage right in front of me, yet the speakers are in the corners and you'd fully expect the sound to be projected from that area , yet it's not . I've spent thousands over the years seeking the holy grail and I'm totally jealous when I come across a fellow audio nutcase that's reached my goal ... It's truly amazing when it all comes together .. those that have experience it, can attest to what I mean .
  5. Yup ... and that sentiment goes for the fairy dust sprinkled on about 75% of the gear and its options in this hobby .. Magical properties are what you've talked yourself into believing ..
  6. I used a Belle as a center channel between k-horns for years in my HT setup and don't miss it now that I sold it ... My KLF-C7 does just as good of a job and it's much easier to position correctly then a 125lb beast . I can see using a impedance matched speaker in a 3 channel setup as PWK played with years past ... but in a HT system no so much , the information is more vocal then full range in the center channel . I however can see using a large volume speaker for applications involving larger sq/ft .... but few of us have HT rooms in our residence that would really benefit from that. My HT was Frt K-horns , center Belle , Rear K-horns , rear center Belle , La scala's up the sides and 2 powered subs in a 28 x 24 room with a 12' ceiling ...... over kill X 100 .
  7. compact disc is a storage and delivery devise for digital media .... Having the same digital media information in any other form is = to a compact disc, as long as it hasn't been compressed or information removed . You can have exactly the same information on a hard drive as a compact disc ..... There is nothing magical about " ones " & " zeros " in the digital world ... just as there is nothing magical about a 3 cent plastic disc that reflects cool colours when you hang it from your rear view mirror . Compact disc are nothing less then a super money maker for the retailer The music industry has went from phonographs drums, to records , to reel to reel , to 8 tracks , to cassettes , to cd's , to storage devises as small as a fleck of pepper . As delivery systems evolves ... the industry reaps the rewards of its consumers by making the prior deliver system redundant .
  8. The worse thing about liquid tape is trouble shooting a poor or corroded connection .... just try cutting into the stuff to investigate the connection it conceals and you'll see what I mean .
  9. We breed and train weimaraner's , which are bird dogs with extremely high prey drive .. they are scent dogs but also have large and very sensitive ears . We also cross breed weimaraner's with German short hair pointers, that makes the ultimate hunter retriever / pointer ... My dogs live in our house and could care less or ever react to any sound coming from a speaker ... it comes down to how sound your animal is , a untrained beast will bark at a door bell or a knock at the door or any unusual sound coming from any source ... a sound beast will leave it's master ( pack leader ) to deal with unfamiliar sounds in the house . I fricken hate dogs that bark at door bells or a knock at the door .. it's embarrassing and a sign you don't have control of your animal .
  10. A micro torch is the perfect tool for shrink tube .. simple, easy and concentrated heat only where you want it . I simply hate heat guns , unless your using them to remove graphics or body side moudings ... Dragging around an extention cord is so 1980's .... Liquid tape is more of an automotive or HD equipment application , I'm a licensed mechanic and we use it in our shop for any application that may see exposure to water , like trailer wiring , fog lamps , driving lights , etc etc etc . More so shrink tube then liquid tape though
  11. Note that this demastering for bass restoration requires the use of spectrograms and cumulative SPL density spectra plots to visually identify the incoming issues with the tracks, and confirm the effect of the iterated demastering inverse filters--along with careful listening using a calibrated stereo setup in-room to verify the resulting demastered tracks. The results speak for themselves. Also note: once the track is demastered, no further editing or work on the resulting tracks are required...you're done having to deal with the issues--unlike the use of plugins at playback time. Chris LOL... Ya , that sounds like something any forum member can just whip up in their spare time !
  12. I liked the Tung sol mouse ear 6SN7 in my JFLessard SRPP pre-amp , and the GE 6SN7GTB as well and the old Rogers . Tube rolling involves a lot of factors ... Experiment
  13. Audio control no longer produces this product but a quick google search will still bring up the info ... The devise is basicly a bass extension ... you can really feel the difference , it has a gain control much like a volume pot that controls the amount of bass extension . Goes from thud thud bass to a tight sharp kick you feel in your gut . I have the PCA3 , here is part of the product review from Home theater hi-fi ... The Phase Coupled Activator technology is not new, but the Series Three is their latest version (call it the PCA3). The difference between this model and previous ones, is the ease with which signals can be passed first through a crossover network (two channel electronic crossover built into the PCA3, which is separate from the subharmonic generation circuitry) then into the subharmonic circuit. Secondly, the PCA3 has speaker level inputs. Third, the current unit has reduced the 1/8 phase shift that was a problem in older versions. The principle of operation is an assumption that very low frequencies in the original music have been lost or removed during recording and CD production. The PCA3 generates subharmonics at half the input frequency, with a sampling range from 50 - 100 Hz in the "Digital Restoration" mode. So, if the input signal were 80 Hz, you would have an output of 80 Hz and 40 Hz. By limiting the sampling range to 50 - 100 Hz, and only with stereo signals, this eliminates boominess that would occur if subharmonics were added from original frequencies at 100 - 500 Hz, and eliminates adding subharmonics to voices that are sent monophonically (the same signal in both channels, in phase) to the center channel speaker. In other words, any signal that is monophonic will not have subharmonics added to it. The separate crossover can be used to send <90 Hz frequencies (line level inputs and outputs) to a pair of powered subwoofers (one each for left and right channels), and >90 Hz (line level) to the main front left/right amplifiers (pre-outs and main-ins on a receiver can be used).
  14. Back in the early 90's in the head banging days , my lascalas seemed a bit on the flat side bass wise .... Hence , I installed an audio control " phase coupled activator " ... problem solved Kick you in the face bass ... I still own 2 Phase coupled activators that are connected to my quad of k-horns , can't really comment till you actually hear the difference they can make in bass.
  15. Hard to get a word in edge wise when craig posts
  16. That's also sounds like pre-set EQ ?
  17. Not sure what's in the signal path to " Filter " out .... My Rotel RCD-991 has a dither control with 10 setting to " add " to the signal , not filter anything out . Dither is described as : “a very small amount of digital noise added to a signal to improve a CD player’s overall sound quality [by improving] a digital-to-analog converter’s linearity, particularly during very soft (low-level) musical passages). In addition to a no dither setting there are seven settings which progressively add more ultrasonic (30-80Khz) weighted dither and, an eighth setting which adds low level broadband dither “not weighted towards the ultrasonic range” which is intended to correct quantization errors only. Is it audible ?? ... you bet , I can hear the difference
  18. Any interest out there for any 12AU7 / ECC82 Mullard , IEC and ken Rad .. substitutable for 12AX7 , 12AT7 , 12AV7 & 5751 ... all of which offer different gains . I've got 13 or so 12AU7 to get rid of ... One Pair of Ken Rad & the rest Branded IEC or Mullard . Also have a pair of NOS , NIB , RCA 12BH7A ( Selling on e-bay for $80-200 a pair ) and 6 channel master , 4 are NOS with original boxes , 2 are not . I'd part with all 21 tubes for $75.00 ... loads of crazies paying twice that just for a good pair of Mullard ECC82 on E-bay
  19. I've got a quad of the winged =c= Svetlana KT-88'S and no longer have an amp they fit ... These are the Svetlana's , made in St Petersburg Russia by the SED company ... " They are not the " S " logo New Sensor from the Saratov factory " In other words , these are the Svetlana's you want .... This quad has less than an hour on them I've got them on Kijiji for $200.00 but I'll sell them to a klipsch member for $125.00
  20. Plenty ole witchcraft & Voodoo in the cable business ... Painfull Reality AKA JFLessard shared his cabling craft with me years back and I've made my own ever since ... Canar G-6 guitar cable is 128 strand oxygen free copper , buy it in bulk at your local music store and strip out the interior , you can leave the shielding on or remove it depending on the RF interference in the area you reside . I terminate mine with cardas ends as in the pic , but you can use what you want . I've got NBS Dragon flys and expensive cardas cable that you can't tell any difference in sound quality to my homemade stuff and at a 1/10 the price point . Not only that , but you can make your lengths whatever you want , I always find store bought is too short or too long ... problem solved .
