  1. I'd be paranoid to try it in my car...1. I don't know a lot about cars and 2. I have a tick about going by the book.
  2. I use banana plugs myself for everything, it's never given me an issue.
  3. Picked up a KSW-15 off Craigslist for $100 today. Set to replace an 8" Polk in the living room.
  4. Correct, unless they're ceiling speakers modded for the car - but I don't know of anyone who has done that with much success. I'd agree that JL Audio is good. A lot of people still rave over Infinity and Alpine as well.
  5. Pretty sure it's due to a limit set on posts. Probably designed to reduce the risk of spamming.
  6. Saw those, I'm thinking about it. I'm working with another deal right now, and if that falls through, these will probably be mine.
  7. If movies and budget isn't tight, I'd definitely go the route of the RF-82's...best bang for the buck. I wouldn't really recommend bookshelf for theater unless you were super super tight on space.
  8. Haha! I'm not someone who believes that the Quintets are flat out amazing. If they'd work in his space - and really I think he could do bookshelves at least in it - maybe. But I'd always push a good reference speaker over synergy/quintet. Then again, if his budget is tight, and he wants to go 5.1 - then yeah...the quintet might be a good option.
  9. Hey Vince, welcome! The RF-42's have a small footprint for floorstanding speakers - but leave a fair amount to be desired. Many people praise the 62's - that might be an option if money isn't an issue. Otherwise a nice pair of RB-61's or 81's would do well too. Do you plan on mainly using it for music or movies? Are you looking for strictly 2-ch or up to 5?
  10. It has served its purpose for a good 12 years or so as an office receiver simply used to handle music - but I have since replaced this with a Marantz. I do have the remote, and somewhere I think I have the manual. DTS and Dolby encoders respond fine - and if you aren't a stickler for any of the newer codecs, I think you'll be pretty happy. Otherwise it can still hold its own for music. One note on it, the volume control on the actual receiver has a contact issue somewhere - I never got around to fixing it. My understanding is that it's fairly normal for the older Yamaha receivers. The remote's transmit light doesn't come up, but otherwise it works like a charm. Asking $70 shipped - unless you're up to a roadtrip.
  11. They still make the Promedia 2.1 setup. Last I heard though, there were no plans to move Promedia production back to the U.S. - so it's likely that they will continue to have a few problems unless they overhaul them on the next update. It seems that most of what people have issues with are with the slate amp, and the control pod.
  12. I thought so. They're using the same pics as the original seller did as well.
  13. The center is one of the most important speakers for home theater imaging. I think it'd be ill advised to modify the speaker in any way which would hinder it's performance. As much as I know you said you don't want to, I think extending that mantel will be your best bet.
  14. Off topic but: I had my first less than ideal long distance Craigslist transaction today when the HDMI circuitry in a Marantz receiver I got was fried. Seller indicated he had no ideas of this prior. Worked out though as I needed to replace another amplifier that did not need HDMI - and the price was more than reasonable.
  15. The fact it's been a month is what raises suspicion with me. He also had RF-7's up that have since been removed. Main reason for suspicion is...why hasn't Gorm snagged it up yet?
  16. Audiophile puns anyone? The Belles to date are the only heritage speaker I've had a chance to listen to. I take their appearance over the LaScala personally, but that's just me.
  17. Both companies make me cringe. Ugh... I'm not sure which is worse...the Beats fans or the Bose fans.
  18. I assume you're referring to the RX-V577? Check and see in your OSD if Zone 2/B has it's own EQ. Some of the Yamaha models actually have options for that setting (i.e. the RX-V2500)
  19. I was taught by nuns in elementary school that either is okay with "h." oh, and I'm far from "expert!" Sounds like "an horrible" experience!
  20. According to a person that helped me today with parts, it's the most in demand discontinued Klipsch speaker too, and is also the one that is most likely to return if the demand presents itself. Hopefully...
  21. Advanced stuff - "Your expectations of this crowd to deal with their grammatical mistakes, where they're making their mistakes, are too high presently. You're too demanding of these guys right now." "Wait for their second round of demerits where there are mistakes." Chris Richard - here's your answer: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/words/a-historic-event-or-an-historic-event Least ways, sum body 'roun here got hisself gud inglush. Him 'n me we be edicated. Reminds me of the "English Teacher Pickup Lines" that one of my professors had in their office. "U and I belong in ED-CAT-ON"
  22. America called, and they want the Belle back. Seriously come on...you know just as well as we do that is one sexy speaker: Come on, you know you wanna bring it out of retirement.
