  1. I am really considering RF-5's being on my A-switch and moving my 3's to B duties sometime in the next year. It'll either be 5's or 7's anyway... however...posts like this just make me sad. I mean, if I was in the same spot 4 years ago, I'd have bought them by now.
  2. Off topic but not: I was doing my daily search for things on Search Tempest early this morning (I'm sick, so I've been filling my early mornings/late nights with nothingness) and came across someone wanting to trade an RC-3 II and two RB-5 II's for a PS4 and an Xbox One. He stated that the 5's were MSRP'd for $700, and the 3 was $900. LOLWUT... Love those drastic number people. Also...I may be the proud owner of a new RC-3 II the week after next
  3. Saw this earlier...and it made me sad... Being a poor college student sucks!
  4. I'm thinking of the SR7007 or 7008 - or equivalent at the moment for the main two rooms, and NR1403's for the smaller two rooms. The last room will be the biggest change...I mean...seriously...anything would be a step up from an Aiwa shelf system.
  5. The Classic RF-5's for sure were built in Hope.
  6. Those are absolutely all RF-7 boxes, and I'd guess THX series 525's.
  7. That's not surprising at all. I think Yamaha's quality has really gone down hill since the introduction of HDMI technology in their systems.
  8. Haha, right on Billy. I've seen this coming for me honestly, for about 7 years or so now myself. I really am not a fan of anything Yamaha has put out recently...seems like once they added HDMI they got rid of their middle ground receivers and either started making cheap crap, or pricey stuff that is honestly...well overpriced. So I'm starting to get feelers out there for the next big thing. Glad that Nak is workin' out for you too!
  9. You know, rereading this...I don't think my goal was clear either. I'd like to step up to something that...well...sounds better. I've read a lot about how people like Marantz receivers (but I also read about the $2000 pricetag on most, hence why I can only assume a $500 receiver would be low brow). I'd like to have something that can handle 2-ch just fine, but something that can deliver some immersive surround as well for movies. Do my Yamaha's work fine? Yeah...but they're also fairly old, two of them have faulty volume controls, and they're not handling any of the newer surround technologies very well - actually they're doing a rather poor job of it.
  10. It's actually more of me that's confused, I'm still learning the difference between NR, SR, and AV lines. That's where my confusion of what "lower end" is. My budget isn't the largest either at this point - and probably won't expand to be any larger for quite some time. The two main setups I'm looking at changing are the one 7.1, and the main 5.1. The 7.1 is running RF-3 II's, RS-42 II's, RS-3 II's, and an RC-52 II. The 5.1 is running Jamo E 4 SUR's, Cornet 175's, an E 6 CEN and Polk TSi100's (as Zone 2).
  11. I am getting around to the point where I have intentions of starting to phase out use of my Yamaha receivers. They've been good to me for the last 14 years, but I think it's time to move onto bigger and better things. I hear a lot of talk about Marantz receivers, and have a couple of questions. As power is not exactly an issue for me (I have receivers now that power 130 WPC, 80 WPC, and 75 WPC respectively), is it safe to go with similar wattage with the Marantz? Will I notice anything different in power consumption? Also, do low end Marantz receivers deliver higher quality as well as the top tier? I'm not looking at some of the blazing line receivers as of yet (that will come when I have my own place). Say for example the Marantz SR 5001 v. the Yamaha RX-V730 - is this still a step up or at least a side step? Recommendations are also welcome. We largely listen to music, but will be replacing three amps in three rooms (two of which run 5.1, and one that runs 7.1).
  12. Is this a receiver or a Prius? My receiver has the same stupid setting. The manual should say "press this button to make your speakers sound like ****". Or rather
  13. Glad to hear it worked out. My recommendation would be going towards Marantz, Onkyo or Denon. I'm not really a fan of the latest in Yamaha technology, they've really started to cut out the middle ground in their lineup. Cheers
  14. Excellent! I'm not sure I'm a fan of how Yamaha has totally digitalized all of it's features. I was happy enough with just flipping the tab to switch impedance (it took me a while to find it myself when I did modifications to my receiver). At any rate, that should do the trick, if not...there might be another problem, and it might not be cheap either.
  15. Also as expected...it is in the boot menu. I also refer you to p135 of the manual:
  16. All Yamaha RX series have Impedance Management onboard. You should be able to switch between 4/6 and 8. If it's like the V2500, you'll need to do this using the boot menu on the receiver itself. I've powered 7s on my 2500 before, and it's only putting out 130 RMS per channel. I'd check my configuration first, and if you don't get any results, I'm willing to bet your receiver is bunked.
  17. That doesn't sound right...using that logic my RF-3's should have totally tore up my RX-V530 when I had it. The 7 II's should sound fine on amps down to 20 RMS.
  18. Let it go, Beeker. Let it go, let it go... HOW DARE YOU!?!!?
  19. Haha! I'm still waiting on the approval to convert the Jamo setup in the living room to straight Klipsch. When that day comes...I'll be trigger happy on some of these deals...Youth and I might have to arm wrestle for it.
  20. Can be assured one looks nice. lol But yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine. I almost feel like pulling the trigger on these though - be a good excuse for a road trip.
  21. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-RF7-and-RC7-speakers-black-/221550330213?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item33956dc165 All I gotta say is...damn. Wonder what they'll end up going for.
  22. Personally (though this is a small room - actually about 2 or 3x too small for what I have) I have the wides turned up to +4 dB, and the rears turned up to +3 dB to compensate for that. The setup plays nice with these settings too, and the sweet spot runs through the whole available listening area instead of rear and center.
  23. That's certainly not characteristic of the 5's...It's not even like the 3's. Hopefully the guys helping thus far will be able to figure it out. Not to assume things, but have you tested them against another amp? It just seems really strange that if you listened to them once they sounded fine, but sounded different when you got them home.
  24. IMO non-ported centers tend to sound better...but that's just me. I don't have any plans to ever own a 64. A 7...now you might get me there...
