  1. Allegedly one can also take sub-standard Vodka and filter it through charcoal and magically turn it in to much better vodka. http://food-hacks.wonderhowto.com/how-to/make-crappy-cheap-vodka-taste-like-good-stuff-0152103/ I'm not a vodka drinker so I've never tried this but it makes sense. Perhaps additional filtration of low-end bourbons through charcoal might have the same effect. On the rare occasions that I consume Bourbon I prefer the better stuff. I'm especially fond of Makers Mark 46. Good thing I can't afford to indulge very often.
  2. I am not currently in possession of a 2,5mH Klipsch inductor so discussion of what kind of meter it takes to measure it is kind of pointless. I do have a decent meter. It's an old (OK... very old) Archer dating from the days that they were being build by one of the leading DVM makers under contract to Radio Shack. I'm trying to find out the DCR to plug that number in to some crossover calculations I'm working on.
  3. Does anybody know what the DCR of the 2.5mH inductor used in the Type E dividing network is? THANX!

    What I Got Today!

A decent pair of K-55-M squawker drivers to replace the Selenium drivers currently in my Heresys.
  5. Prefer an unpainted one so it matches the one I already have but that really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things. Cone "cosmetics" don't matter to me because it'll be behind a grill. What matters to me is functionality. I'd rather NOT have to have it re-coned. What's available? Oh... I forgot to mention that I'm a cheap bastage who doesn't have a ton of cash on hand so the cheaper the better. PM me here or email to teknoid56 AT gmail DOT com if you can hook me up with a K22-EF.
  6. I'm a fan of the WD Red NAS drives. Currently have three 3TB drives configured RAID5 in my primary desktop PC. I do PC support work for a living and the company I work for uses only WD drives. We put WAY too many Seagate drives in the trash to recommend them.

    What I Got Today!

A new place to live... Moved from an 850 square foot 2 bedroom 1 bath with a 1 car garage apartment (half a duplex to be accurate) to a 1700 square foot 3 bedroom 2 bath with a 2 car garage. The best part... My rent is less than half of what I was paying. Still half of a duplex but a step up for sure. Super nice area. VERY quiet in the end of a cul de sac. A nice little fishing pond on the property were I so inclined. No interior shots yet because it's pretty much a shambles after 2 days of moving but here's the back yard with the pond:
  8. There are stereo receivers out there with decent bass management. Here's a good example: http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/rr2150.html
  9. A few years ago I saw BB King in concert. From the looks of them the average age of his band was 80+. In spite of their collective "advanced" ages they put on a helluva show. Opening for Mr. King was Jeff Beck. Also getting on in years but still able to make a guitar wail.
  10. Yep... What's called a "super-moon eclipse" The last one was more than 30 years ago and the next one will be in 2033. More info here: http://www.foxnews.com/science/2015/09/25/sundays-rare-supermoon-eclipse-what-need-to-know/
  11. No Blue Bell in Florida yet. I am anxiously awaiting its return. I'm missing out on my favorite desert. For the curious... Take 2 Archway Oatmeal cookies (the soft kind) and press them to the sides of a medium sized bowel. Spoon in 3 or 4 tablespoons of Stouffer's Harvest Apples (heated). Apply a couple of generous scoops of Blue Bell Butter Pecan ice cream and drizzle with warmed caramel sauce. OMG... Hey Blue Bell... Let's get it together and get some of my favorite ice cream down to the sunshine state.
  12. Great pictures. Good luck with your sale. Where they are located is always helpful.
  13. 3 minutes my @$$. There's an unopened 1.75L bottle of Crown Royal in the pantry. Considering the week I've had I can see myself beating up on that bottle real hard tonight.
  14. Go get em... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Laser-Badges-1977-Cornwall-Heresy-La-Scala-Belle-Klipschorn-/151800873138?hash=item23580980b2 Not mine and no affiliation but I know that there are a few folks around here looking for a pair of these.
  15. No affiliation but if I had the extra coin they would be at my house right now. http://lakeland.craigslist.org/ele/5200606827.html
  16. It's interesting to me that cassettes are experiencing an upsurge in sales in parallel with vinyl. I was a devote' of both formats back in the day but abandoned both with the introduction of CDs. Hey... nobody ever accused me of being the sharpest tool in the shed. Back in the late 70s early 80s I had a pretty nice system that included a Revox B77 and a Nakamichi 1000 Tri-Tracer. Every weekend a group of 6 to 10 friends would gather at my house each of us with a brand new album. We would play each album simultaneously recording it on the R2R and cassette. The owner of the album got the first generation cassette. If anybody else wanted a copy I'd dub it to cassette from the B77 during the next week and deliver it to the the next weekend gathering. At the time I was adding to my album collection (on cassette and/or reel) at a rate of 6 to 10 per week while only buying one. Yes... I know... It was "music piracy" but we really didn't have that term at the time. A couple of years before that there was a local "album rock" FM station. Every night at 11:00 PM thay would play an album uninterupted. A couple of minutes before they started the album they would announce the track names then at a couple of seconds before 11:00 they would do a countdown to play. At the time I was using a Pioneer CTF-9191 cassette deck. I had the whole stereo on a timer so that I could record every album every night. When I moved to CD in 1985 I boxed up my cassette deck and most of the collection of cassettes (3000+) and began re-building my music collection on CDs. Some years later being the complete dumb@$$ that I often am I gave away the Nakamichi and sold the cassettes for 25¢ each at various garage sales.
  17. Anybody know when the last Heritage Line price increase was? Seems to me like they held their pricing stable for quite a while in the face of inflation.
  18. Oh SOOOO this about me too I have a pathological inability to prevent words like Really? and Seriously? and DUH? and PU-LEZE! from spilling out of my mouth when I hear certain things. And then there's the occasional B@##$4!T that slips out. That one is ALWAYS popular. This affliction has not only kept me out of meetings, I'm pretty sure it's cost me more than one job.
  19. I have a really good Cincinnati Chili recipe. Round here it gets served "5 way". I also make a mean pot of basic "Texas Red". Enjoy them both but they are VERY different things.
