  1. Here's the link for the Heresy III thread https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/152069-how-to-get-the-best-sound-out-of-heresy-iii/
  2. Welcome to the forum Craig. I have Heresy III and they are a great choice for jazz. I did the same thing as you and listened to a Heresy I and thought that they were lacking a bit of the low end but I liked the clarity of the sound. My H3's are the same in terms of the low end when I give them a plain signal. There are 4 ways to fix that. Add an EQ, add 1 or 2 subwoofers, corner placement, use a bassy amp or bassy music source. Each option will give you slightly different results in the bass sound, from boomy (airy) sounding to a clear and punchy. You can look for more details in a thread I started some time ago called "How to get the best sound out of Heresy". Once set up right they sound amazing, especially on jazz.
  3. If you want the best quality of sound you need a good CD player and original CD's. If you take a good care of them, they will serve you well for many many years ahead. I purchase my CD's from www.buycdnow.ca, prices are very reasonable. I buy 5-10 a month which is not much but the quality exceeds compressed MP3, FLAC, etc. by a significant margine.
  4. Yes on the Maggies, no to the rest. Regardless, that does not discount the HIII's ability to present a 3 dimensional sound or low level detail. Proper component matching(source, preamp, amp) and room will decide that. Bill The Heresys do not present as good a 3D image or detail on the same level that the loudspeakers I listed do, but when Quicksilvers are hooked up to some of these speakers it's pretty clear that the Heresys are the limiting factor. Not the other way around. It's not a fair comparison, the speakers I listed are very fine systems and come with substantial cost however I will stand by my statement that the Quicksivers out pace the Heresys. In my case, the Heresy III with Sansui AU-919 and Rega CD player give me incredible 3D image and detail.
  5. Here is the result of my turntable research. In the past, when turntables were the main audio source, Dual was one of the cheaper units out there. Thorens and Rega were always the kings of turntables. So, if you really want a good quality, any of those will do a good justice for you.
  6. Nice picture. I thought the CW II had the woofer moved up closer to the mid horn. I am a happy owner of H III. They are easy to move around and being off the floor with a bit of a bass help from the amp, they sound fantastic. I have to note that I am not a fan of HT type low undefined bass. I like my bass to sound warm and accurate whithin the bass guitars region i.e. 50Hz -150 Hz. Never heard any of the CW's.
  7. Sometimes I use a Sansui EQ which does a good job for the low end and never needed a sub, and yes the Heresy IIIs will take as much bass as you give them without distortiing which is one of the benefits of a sealed box. I wonder if this is the reason why sealed subs are a lot more expensive than ported. Without the EQ I get a cleaner sound, so I prefer the Sansui AU-919 bass adjustment. I would love to compare the bass reproduction of Fortes, Cornwalls and Heresy III. Again, the Heresy's need a bit of help either from the amp or EQ but the bass it produces is very clean, fast and accurate, I wonder what will the other 2 do in this case.
  8. Tube mono blocks, the right pre-amp, a sub, the right cables. Can you please share your experience. What is the difference with tube monoblocks and which ones you tried?
  9. Very interesting. Also, I'd like to share another observation with the Heresy III. When they are off the floor, the mids and highs are fantasting, but the lows are a little lean. When I add 2-3db at 150Hz on the amp, the lows totally come back and the strange thing is that I can hear clearly down to around 20-30 Hz, which doesn't happen without this adjustment. Also the bass gets very clear and warm (I think that's partially because of the Rega CD player too). On the contrary, when they are on the floor, there's too much bass, but not as warm and clear. May be there is a height and tilt where the sound will be balanced but I haven't been able to play that much to find it.
