  1. Bill, I posted on a thread that Jico has come out with their new SAS stylus for the V15. It is now using a sapphire cantilever instead of the boron, and the upgraded tip. It runs $211.00 for it, but it should be well worth it.
  2. I think they are selling at $211.00 now on all SAS. Kinda makes me want to get another V15 III just to see how it will sound.
  3. Good Luck with them, if it doesn't work out let me know.
  4. The new ones have the Sapphire cantilever.
  5. Jico just relaunched selling their SAS and Shibata stylus today, with a rise in cost. But from the looks of it, the SAS has the Sapphire cantilever. Should be very interesting.
  6. Jim, what finish is on your Forte II's? Jim, right now they are the black, but I bought the Brazilian Rosewood veneer as well as raw Birch. I redid the grills in a gunmetal greyish/blue, but have not had the time to refinish them due to work. So the veneer is sitting in a roll and the speakers are needing some TLC on the top due to the past owner having plants on top. I also have the trim and the contact cement and glue.
  7. I've been contemplating getting rid of my Forte II's if you're interested. They have the original crossovers, and the Crites crossovers with the tweeter diaphrams. You are more than welcome to PM me about them if the quartets don't work out.
  8. That's more for you to come in and spend money. The stylus tip will last for a very long time if taken care of. So will the suspension,it's when they sit idle for years that they harden up. Look to Andy at needledoctor dot com and you can send in the cartridge to be de-gunked every few years as stylus will get gunk (like plaque on our teeth) and he can also polish it up. If by any chance the suspension does go bad, he replaces them, and also does tip replacements. So for those who love their cartridges, no need to worry on replacement stylus. He can retip or fully rebuild and also upgrade them.He does both MM and MC carts. As for the SAS stylus, Jico isn't making them right now, but will be re-releasing them soon as well as their shibata stylus. Try Ed Saunders for replacements as well. My personal opinion is the V15 III is the best one of all of them, even the M97.
  9. The Hum would be from using a Grado Sonata cartridge, not the Shure. The Grado's have a hum when used with some of the Dual tables (idler wheel).
  10. The hum was geared towards doing the Grado Sonata, as with idler wheel drives as per Grado, it will cause a slight hum. If anything, speak to Larry about a possible upgrade with wiring on the arm out to the head shell.
  11. Don't sleep on the Dual, it's one of the few auto tables that's actually hi-fi. If you can, get a Stanton 681EEE and get the D6800EEE-S or Jico D68000EEE Shibata. The shibata will make that thing sing. The shibata stylus brings it to a whole new level, and if you get the flat headed sled for the 1229, look at the Grado Sonata 1 or 2. It may need a shim on it, but that will be one helluva set up. As long as that idler wheel is in good condition, it will keep that thing sounding superb. It may or may not have a slight hum though due to the idler. Here is my 1229Q.
  12. Very good chance we sell these separately down the line. As I have said in other threads, you can expect that we will be selling a lot more accessories on our website in the future, so customers don't have to dig through customer support for things like grilles and such. While we have a friendly relationship with the folks at U-Turn, we never officially discussed a collaboration with them. The company you are thinking of is VPI whose turntables we featured in our booth at CES - albeit with no Klipsch branding. There is a good chance that you see a higher-end turntable in the future from Klipsch and a company like VPI would make a lot of sense to partner with for that. Mat from VPI was actually touting you guys at one of the last shows. Very nice people to deal with. That would be a nice partnership if it comes to fruition.
  13. I would agree, particularly given the Ortofon Red installed. Not the greatest cartridge in the world, but very decent. The Pro-Ject version on the site has the Red on it, the one with the Walnut in the picture above your comment is the OM series from Ortofon, not the red. It is I think the OM5 or OM10 (which is basically the same cartridge, although the OM series was made for lighter arms).

    Well ran dry...

In almost every state you would lose. The landlord has to promise the premises to be livable and do repairs unless it flat out states that the tenant is responsible for all repairs, or a portion. A well running dry isn't one of them, and sending a threatening letter "ahead of time" could be considered bordering harassment in some states.

    Well ran dry...

This is interesting. We are actually in the process of moving to CO to be back closer to family and maybe this is the catalyst to get us out the door. The problem is we have been looking for a house but the market is off the rails insane right now. Try speaking to Realtors that have empty houses that are listed that aren't foreclosures. That's the easiest way to do a short term rental. Even if it's a short sale (technically not supposed to be able to rent as an owner in some states as it's against the law), it can help you on the amount of rent being paid, and if a bank knows the short sale is being rented, they will also pay you to move when the time comes. They do this sometimes as it keeps the property safe and secure and as it's being lived in, you will maintain it better than it being vacant. And if you really like the house, you can turn it into a purchase down the line, or a rent to own direct from the seller. You pay rent, then turn it into an option to purchase, and as long as the bank OK's the transaction, you do the purchase. It becomes even easier if you go through the bank that has the note. As for the landlord, he is not following through on his end, but you need to check local laws on holding rent,as it's illegal to do so in many states. You can withhold it and keep a "copy of the check" or have the money available in some states as well. You should also speak to someone who knows the law there and see if you have to take him to court or not. By taking him to court and having a pregnant wife, the courts will most likely make him pay you up to 10x's the amount of rent and also pay for you to move. In NJ that's how it works.
  16. I had/have the NOBSOUND amp, and it's not close to being what they say on power ratings. Plus, you'll have to clip wires to run it in triode mode, so it will be in ultralinear mode when it comes. It will push the speakers, but not like something with a little more power, so it may lack in the bass department when turned up. Having said this, I took one of them and had it rewired and caps and resistors were upgraded and the thing sounds much much better than when it was stock. That one I wound up selling to someone who came to my house to listen to music. So I wound up buying another one that was already wired in triode mode only. The 1st one prior to mods was pushing about 11 watts and 3 watts, and the 2nd one pushes 3-3.5 watts even though it's rated for 4 watts. The 2nd one also sounds very good and has the 3D imaging with it. I use the Forte II's for it,and they don't hog as much power as the CF's do from my understanding. As long as you aren't looking to really pump the music loud, it should be good for "critical low level listening". For the price point I don't think it would be a bad investment to get into tubes, even if it slightly lacks in volume when you get it. It makes for a nice 2ndary amp for an office or desk top amp and speakers that may not need as much power. I use mine for critical listening and have it hooked up to an amp switch. I have a SET, SEP, and PP amp and all have their uses for me, so I just push a button and get what I want. I have 3 turntables and my external hard drive and DAC hooked into a switch as well, so everything for me is just a button away. It works for me. I'm far less knowledgeable than others on here when it comes to tubes, but I do know this unit firsthand.
  17. Great song,I have the cd as well.
  18. Ahh, this is also what I recommended.
  19. Silversport, just a little FYI. Jico is getting ready to start re-issuing their SAS stylus and the V-15 III sounds really nice with the SAS on it.
  20. Fido, I originally contacted him about doing custom plinths on my Dual 701 and 1229Q. I however sold them to fund playing around with other tables knowing I can go back and get one. The thing I like about him is he truly seems to enjoy speaking to you when on the phone with him. Do you have a picture you can post of the plinth? Not to hijack the OP's thread
  21. I have a few. James-Laid (full album or cd), Billy Joel-An Innocent Man (album song), Sade-Promise (full album), Chris Isaak- Wicked Game (song on album or cd, or the whole album as well)
  22. I could go on and on, but 2 of my all time favorites are Black Sabbath-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin II. They take me back to my childhood when I was about 4 years old.
