  1. With The Matrix? Over the years I've certainly seen my share of grainy catalog titles (or worse, one's artificially scrubbed of grain), but The Matrix 4K is not one of them. Must have seen it 7-or-8 times + since it came out & grain was never prevalent. Just popped it in tonight; from the opening scene with Trinity in the dark hotel room, hallways & rooftop... to the later fast moving debris filled lobby scene & Morpheous rescue. And I was hard pressed to see significant grain of any kind. It was rather vivid & crisp. Hmmm. Not sure. Maybe you could point me to a particular scene that presents a n issue for you & I'll take a look (shrug).
  2. The Matrix This was a Day-one purchase back in May & to be honest- I actually hated it upon my 1st viewing last Spring. The new transfer is a dramatic departure from earlier versions of The Matrix. All previous DVD & Blu-ray releases had been authored with the ever present Green hue & tone to the picture. And after countless viewings over the years, I rather enjoyed what the cyber-tech-future-green-wash added to the look & overall feel of the film. Fast forward to present day & say goodbye to the Green Pill. The 4K UHD reverts back to the original theatrical release for the look of The Matrix... & removes the start-to-finish "Green" hue that has been associated with the previous DVD & Blu-ray's. Bill Pope (Director of Photography) oversaw the remaster for the 4K release & he scrubbed the start to finish "Green" I've associated with the film. Now, the "Green" tone is reserved only for the Matrix World (& "Blue" tone for the Real World). Initially it was off putting & odd (I hated it initially). But now several months later & after multiple viewings- my memory of all previous iterations have faded. The new (dialed back) 4K transfer now seems to be the "norm" & I can enjoy & appreciate the new look. The detail & clarity is truly outstanding, many aspects are incredibly vivid & crisp. The new Atmos track is equally impressive. With upgraded audio & video, I found myself noticing elements I've not seen or paid attention to before. Whoa.... that's amazing for a nearly 20 year old film. Easy to say the 4K release is the best way to to experience The Matrix.
  3. Sounds like a great plan for the upgrade. I've personally had Atmos for over 3 years now (with top-mounted up-firing speakers) & with a new AVR you should be ready to rock the HT with a new experience. New releases & even older catalog titles benefit from an Atmos track. Congrats !
  4. Hey Berglii... if you currently do not have rear surrounds, adding Front Towers with (top-firing) Atmos speakers will be perfectly fine. Your Marantz has Atmos decoding & you can configure the new Towers (w/Atmos) during set up. Bear in mind that Atmos is very forgiving & your Marantz will recognize your available speakers & your room- and make the appropriate calibration. Also, Atmos is not limited to only "overhead". Object-based Atmos moves sounds almost anywhere, including your full range F/L/C mains. Good Luck !!
  5. Good stuff johnnydrama - Love your 370 !! Myself, I'm fortunate to have a (Black) Stage 7 Stillen 300ZX & a (bolt-on mods) 350Z. Here's my 350: I'll bring the thread full circle & watch Furious 8 on 4K UHD tonight.

    RP-500SA

Cool to learn advance orders of the new RP-500SA are starting to hit the street. My plans are to upgrade a number of items - closer to the November, Black Friday time frame. In my case, the RP-500SA's are actually more of an "addition" than upgrade (going from 5.2.4 to... 5.2.6). Prior to adding them to the system, I'll swap out the front pair of RP-140SA's with the new 500SA's. With 3+ years of listening to the 140's... I'll have a strong ability to compare the new 500's. Curious to see (hear) if the larger 5.25" RP-500SA offers a significant or subtle experience compared to the 4" RP-140SA. The cabinet sizes of both models are almost identical, but have to believe the new 500's will provide a fuller range. For those debating between the original 140's & the new 500's. Nothing wrong with the 140's (in my set-up they performed exceptional), but I'd go with the new 500's. Simply because they offer both upward firing (Atmos) configuration... as well as traditional Surround Sound via Switchable Crossover Setting. That makes the 500's versatile & provides multi-use applications for current or future applications. Plus, the 5.25" vs. the 4" should offer an advantage. I might not be able to wait until November (lol). If I get them sooner I'll posts pics & review.
  7. Ready Player One Dolby Atmos / English Dolby TrueHD 7.1 This is a real Audio & Visual treat. 2 hours & 20 minutes of tremendous eye & ear candy. The object based audio from the Atmos track is powerful, effective & provides a real showcase of your system. Chapter 2 & Chapter 10 are both demo worthy material... immersing you right in the middle of the action. The movie itself is a non-stop cultural reference explosion, filled with fun never ending pop culture. Fun to watch & experience, certainly a blast to enjoy the audio & visuals.

    RP-500SA

That's awesome schwock5... RF7's in an apartment !! On movie night, your neighbors either love you or hate you. (insert tagline here) Good Stuff. Jay L was really helpful with the setup, back when the RP-140's originally came out. (Denon Reps were even a bit behind the curve at the time). I'll grab a pair of 500SA's when they come out & put them up front. After 3+ years; I'll have a good baseline established with countless source material. Easy to evaluate & compare them with the 140's. At the time Jay L mentioned he was working on some cool stuff, took a few years for 5" RP500's. Maybe in a few years we'll get 8" upward firing options to match my RC-7 !!

    Atmos

Hey dubs... lots of great Atmos content. Everything from the early Atmos releases like Transformers Age of Extinction or the Diamond Luxe Edition of Gravity. Catalog titles such as 1992's Bram Stokers Dracula benefit as well, for example there's a scene in the garden-courtyard with birds chirping & singing above me... where there are no speakers above me. The new release of The Matrix on 4K UHD is also outstanding. Certainly a movie I've seen countless times over & over. The newly authored Atmos track brings object based elements into the movie I've not heard before. John Wick 1 & 2 make for great demo material. TV Box Sets of Game of Thrones are great demo worthy examples as well.

    Atmos

Hey schwock5... I've been using the RP-140's for over 3 years now & they perform very well. With these there is no need to wall mount them... they sit horizontally on top of your existing Front Towers & Rear Speakers. For Atmos applications, the angle is already engineered into the cabinet (level - horizontal), & designed to bounce off the ceiling (sitting on top of your existing Front & Rear Speakers). If you still require a wall mount application... I'd position & hang a wall mount shelf & place them on the shelf. The RP-140SA's are 4"... coming soon are the new 5" RP-500SA. You might want to hold off & consider the RP-500SA's when they come out. ...

    RP-500SA

10/5 EDIT: Update...these have "Officially" launched. Now available on Klipsch website Hey all- what's going on? Hope things are well with everyone. Just curious if Jay L... or Chad has info on a release date for the new RP-500SA. Looking to add to my (4) RP-140SA's. The new 5.25" RP-500SA look to be a good addition to the line-up.

    Moral Code?

Stupid computer. I can't seem to log on the Klipsch speaker Forum. I always get redirected elsewhere.
  13. What's the over/under on whether the actual survey received more responses than this thread?
  14. Most guys do that & you'll get a missile toe to the crotch.
  15. Also pontificating, obfuscating, and masturbating while spinning off red herrings, non sequitors, strawmen, and more. Quite civilly, I might add. Dave You forgot this one.
  16. Don't need 50 pages for that. Truth.
  17. Sorry... for got the thread topic was bloviating.
  18. 50 pages in... & haven't read one thing to convince me that the Fair Labor Standard Act should establish a $15 minimum wage. If a State wishes to raise it from current status... let the individual States (& the voters in their State) decide for themselves.
  19. Since the Groove just launched yesterday, you might consider the KMC 1 or the larger KMC 3.
  20. The Groove is brand new & just launched this week.
  21. Those executions are bit less tradtional, but over the years there have been a lot of really cool Giclee Star Wars prints... especially the stuff from Christian Waggoner & Chris Wahl's "Hoth Encounter". .
  22. November of last year we had record-breaking snowfall of 31 inches. This November we had a record-breaking high temp of 76° (& still have green grass). My coffee tastes better with snow on the ground. Hey Joe, if nothing else.... that shows that today is another day & tomorrow is behind you. It's always important to have a good wingman (with a fresh perspective & a good sense of humor)... seems like you have plenty of wingmen here.
  23. What I'm looking for tomorrow... is Batman Europa #1. Inked & pencils by Jim Lee! The long awaited Part 1 of 4 mini-series.
  24. Somewhat related to Movies, Blu-ray & HT in general. Here's a pretty cool & unique approach that Star Wars fans can hang framed art in the HT. These classic Greek sculpture Star Wars mach-up are the creation of artist (simulated name) Travis Durden. All images are purely Photoshop creations, based on classic marble sculptures from the Louvre. Kinda cool. Prints range from $70-$480 (US) & can be purchased here: http://www.galerie-sakura.com/ficheproduit.php?photography_ID=1561
