  1. Surprised to hear people comparing the sound of the la scalas with the jubilee.... I have heard la scalas and they were painful to my ears. Maybe it was the room or the eq. I just read 17 pages about la scalas on audioK a lot of people agree. What a strange polarizing speaker.
  2. I haven't heard the 14's but have 19's and from what I have read it's important to have the right components in the 14's. I have also read that some prefer the "right" 14's over some 19's. I have had 2 pairs of cornwalls, and they are far more forgiving of recordings and spaces than any of my Altecs. The crux is when I compared the cornwalls to my 19's, with the "right" recording, it wasn't even close.... Also Altecs are very unforgiving, if you get it right they can be magical. Get it wrong and watch out!!!
  3. Awesome job Mallette and good for you!!! It still surprises me how bad most recordings sound.....
  4. Cradeldorf are you up to no good again ? Still miss your 604 experiments on the Hboard!!! Hope your system is sounding great!!!!
  5. Are you saying that selling something cheaper than what you bought it is not in the spirit of the Klipsch Community or do you think Sancho Panza is not telling the truth? Not saying that at all, I don't know what he paid for his tickets? I am sure it is a good deal for someone.... If he paid more and is selling them for less that's great. I guess the idea of paying 1200 for 2 JB tickets is something I have to wrap my head around. Sancho sorry about my comment I will edit.
  6. removed for lack of info and understanding..... Sorry once again Sancho!!!
  7. If you are patient, I would look for a pilot sp210. I read an article on six moons about a group that in a listening test preferred it to a an Arc reference one which I think were around 10k new. You would have to build a power supply though. I have been through a lot of well regarded gear its one of my favorites so far...
  8. Newbie, just read where you are located. I heard this combo right down the street from you. Maybe Cutthroat will give you an invite...
  9. I have heard a very similar set up but with oris horns... It sounded very good. Hypex on the bass and set amps on top. One difference though the 4592's had been modded.
  10. Hummingbirds are awesome. Last summer I witnessed an air battle between 5 or 6 of them for about 10 minutes over a large patch of minardi flowers. They would disappear then attack, it was like they were everywhere and nowhere. Being that it was happening 5 feet away from me and they were buzzing my head it was spooky.
  11. I heard some of the larger b&w speakers at are local hifi spot with my wife with large dual mac mono's and a mac cd player, the system was about 75k. I popped in take five.... My wife and I couldn't believe our ears, it was lifeless and sounded colored. Maybe it was the room?
  12. I heard the 4592's attached to some oris horns in cutthroats system. it was an unreal upgrade to his system.. I don't know if it was the mid version of these drivers or some other 4592nd but I couldn't believe how open, and smooth they sounded with great detail.. The seller of his pair does some form of "upgrade" to the drivers, but the sound was magical... Good luck with your search!
  13. Thanks for all the info gentlemen!!! I Cant wait to hear these things.... I have had some clone bins in the garage for awhile sitting on the pallet they were shipped on.. I finally pulled them into the house yesterday, I cant get over the scale.... These are large, imposing and heavy. I like how they have an industrial almost machine age look to them. It took myself and a very large friend to carry them in.. He's about 6'7" and it was still a bit of a struggle. This pair weights about 250lbs each. I always liked large speakers but these are almost ridiculous! Thanks again!!!!
  14. I picked up a pair of Bob's crossovers after reading about how some preferred the passive method to the active method. The crossovers are described as having a bass boost, is this part of all of the passive crossover designs? or something Bob put together? I have a dx38 but haven't hooked it up yet. Has anyone compared this crossover to the dx38? or a similar crossover to the dx38? Thanks any info would be great!
  15. There is easily 7500 worth of gear, go get it......
  16. JUST.NOT.HAPPY???? Myself also...I just recently got some very nice clone bins, 13ply BB with a 1" motorboards a dx 38, had K402's.... Now I hear a lot about passive crossovers....
  17. I am so very sorry Cornman.......
  18. We need a thread for "super collectors" Colterphoto1 I think you should start it!!!
  19. The best I have heard with Khorns were at Cutthroats house... Biamping with sets amps on the top and hypex amps on the bass...although he doesn't use the stock horn, this system is very refined!
  20. Good for you gentlemen!!! Love to see how commerce is conducted on this board, always smoothly and ethically....
  21. Talmadge, if the previous poster doesn't purchase, I will buy them. Thanks
  22. Those might be worth more than 1100, I doubt to many pairs of these speakers, are in the condition that these speakers appear to be. They look brand new and are 39 years old. I would take no less than 2000... these are rare... Sorry about your loss, keep them in your family if you can..
  23. Thanks Mdeneen I appreciate it!!! I don't know if it is true, but the earlier ones supposedly used left over parts from Telefunken factory so they are closer to the originals...... I would be hard pressed to believe the quality control was the same though. Thanks again!!!
