  1. They look decent, and at this price they are probably worth a shot http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/csw/ele/5841518643.html
  2. You'd think I would check that first huh? I guess I can swap it with the 806 upstairs, no one else in the house will notice.
  3. For now I just want to add an outboard amp to the 606, but eventually I would want to go with a full preamp/amp combo. For now though I'm just running 3.1 and won't be expanding until we move to a larger house in 2018. And yes that Yamaha is beautiful...I've been watching it for a few days and wondering where I could even put it. Must..resist
  4. So I've got these lovely Chorus speakers from @Matthews and not enough real power to feed them. I'm looking for a stereo amp in the range of 150-300 wpc. Budget is around $500, but I'm open to something further up or down that price point depending on what it is. Recommendations are welcome too, if you aren't selling anything
  5. You think so, and I think so...but wait until my wife gets home tomorrow and we'll see if we have a quorum Thanks Matt, it was great to meet you. Got your PM about the Adcom amp, I'll look into those and a few others I found locally. Time to start a new thread for that... Keeping them in the family, so to speak . More pics coming soon once I finish setting them up!
  6. Well I was finally able to make the trek down to Missouri this week and pick up these beautiful speakers from @Matthews I took off at a good time, but leaving your phone at home is a bad idea as this will only add time to the journey. After doubling back a bit, I got back on track and in no time I found myself in Iowa: I don't know how I was able to shoot a tractor on the overpass right then, but maybe that's pretty normal in Iowa I had lunch with a coworker in Des Moines, and after that I proceeded to get lost while trying to find my way to the Missouri border. After a few nav snafu's I was in the right direction: A couple of hours and a few more nav issues later, I was at Matthews doorstep!. We spent some time listening to the Chorus as well as his beautifully refinished LaScalas. His tube amps are fantastic, and the wireless DAC is something I really need to look into for my living room. The drive home was a little longer since I decided to take the interstate through Kansas City instead of taking the back roads. I love me some BBQ but it was probably for the best that everything was closed when I pulled through at around 11PM, otherwise I still might not be home After a nap at a rest stop in northern Iowa I finally got home at about 7:30 AM. Total trip was over 1000 miles and about 20 hours. It was a little chilly this morning but I was able to move the speakers into the house and unload the car before grabbing a little more sleep: Hell of a trip and it was totally worth it. Thank you @Matthews for the hospitality and for holding these speakers until I could get down there to pick them up. More pics will come once I have my little movie/listening room all in place! I only moved into this house a couple months ago so things are still a little chaotic.
  7. Not sure how you swung that, but you're a pretty lucky man. Would love to hear more about some of the stuff I see in that pic! Also, how many living rooms do you have?!? And I'm very excited to get Matthew's Chorus here...just a few more hours Hah...the reason I have black KLF-10's is because a few years ago my wife didn't like the light oak finish of the CF2's I had in the living room back in Oregon. Flash forward to our current (much smaller) house in Minnesota, and I find myself putting some bookshelves in place of anything else I have here because they're all too big for the room. Can't wait I drove across the country for them! Well, I moved across the country a few months ago and ended up only 7 hours away from him, so that's close enough I guess...
  8. Funny thing, last week I thought about asking you whether some new cabs could be cnc'd for these, but I held off because I didn't know what I really wanted to do with them. Last night I decided that I'd use one as a center for the Chorus, at least for a while. But if I ended up enjoying the combo then maybe refinishing (or rebuilding) them with the same veneer would be ideal. I'll have the Chorus here and set up by this weekend, and I'll plug in a Heresy to the middle and see how it works out I guess...
  9. Sickness....that's the word my wife uses on a regular basis!
  10. Yep, driving down to pick them up this Thursday. Also bought some Reference Premier bits for our living room, and a pair of Heresy from the original owner last week (see )
  11. I've bought 3 of those pairs since I moved here in July! I'd say I'm not slacking...
  12. I already have 6 pairs of speakers and 3 rooms . No room for these anywhere, but I can understanding cleaning them up and reselling them eventually.
  13. It's for the best at this point
  14. They are "pending pickup" (and hey for once it wasn't me...)
  15. I had a similar Dayton Class D amp for a couple years, but once I started spending more time in my office I bought this Teac integrated: http://www.teac.com/product/np-h750/ Class A/B 40wpc amplification, phono/usb/aux inputs, Burr/Brown USB DAC, and some network/wifi/ipod stuff that I don't use. They've had enough power to easily drive my CF-2's, my KV-4's, and now these Heresies. Certainly not cheap, but I'm in here 10-14 hours per day so the cost seemed justified
  16. I have someone willing to trade me 2 NHT A1 monoblock amps for my Epic CF-2's. Anyone have experience with these amps? Any recommendations on a pre/pro for them? They would be powering the rebuilt pair of Chorus that I'm picking up from @Matthews http://www.nhthifi.com/products/11194-a1-mono-amplifier "The A-1 is a workhorse amplifier designed for a number of applications. It is a full range amplifier useful for powering subwoofers, bi-amping large speakers or used in conjunction with a good preamp. FR: 20Hz – 20kHz. Power Rating: 250W (6 ohms). DIM/WT: 2.25”H x 17”W x 11”D, 18 lbs."
  17. Well, someone has offered me a pair of NHT A1 monoblocks (250wpv @ 6ohms) in trade for my Epic CF-2's...maybe that'll be enough power?
  18. Yeah the more I look at the the more I think I should just enjoy them as-is, with a couple minor upgrades to the internals. Enjoy the patina and performance, kind of like a rat rod? Maybe add some risers though, that would help out in my office. I think this could look good, but old plywood is cranky and I can see it chipping easily. Would probably need to experiment on some scrap pieces first? Yeah I like that idea too, but I'd have to get the rounded edges done first That's an interesting thought...I'll have to think it over a bit. Decisions decisions!
  19. Wow, the guts look pretty clean. Any reason to replace those inductors when I replace the caps?
  20. Is there veneer on the raw birch? I thought it was just the plywood finish?
  21. Pics of the tops and sides! I have higher resolution versions but I didn't want to overdo it in this thread.
  22. I'll take more pics today. I guess it's time to brush up on my soldering skills!
  23. I have a couple centers here, and I always use one for movies/tv since they seem to mix most of the dialog into that channel. Listening to a movie on 2-channel is frustrating, especially with my poor hearing. I'm just not sure I need to use my big one (KLF-C7) in this room, but I suppose it would better match for the Chorus than my little center (KV2) Music is always 2-channel of course
  24. Tempting to go that far with them, but the argument for patina is also a good one. Maybe I should just concentrate on basic internal upgrades: crossovers, better drivers, maybe replace the terminals with binding posts? I've never had Heresy's nor have I really looked into upgrades for them...what's the scoop on budget improvements here?
  25. They are going into a small room, 11x13. The speakers will be on the short wall so they won't be very far apart either (debating whether I even need a center channel for now). Currently plan to power them with my smaller Onkyo AVR, which according to specs pushes 105wpc with 2 channels driven.
