  1. This is the very first time i have heard that. I have 2 rebuilt (myself + JM), so am pretty familiar with the circuit. (I did not follow the recipe, and this ain’t my fist rodeo, but there are many more knowledgeable). But confess, i’ve never torn apart one of the freed opts. Please share the details of your analysis as there are many spending big bucks on just the opts and if we can match their performance for less $$ that would be good news. But please include facts (not suggesting your views are not supported by facts, but we do get some unsubstantiated statements here, so want o make sure I don’t react to another). Thanks.
  2. If we ever try to do this again, I would be interested. I'm also in the western suburbs (Wheaton).
  3. I’m interested, assuming u still have them a year later.
  4. There is no such thing as a "Calibration" Tube. Tubes wear and vary between manufacturers and and even across dates of manufacture. What would be the point of "calibrating" to a certain tube? You simply need to adjust bias to the actual tube(s) you put in it. Don't buy the snake oil! However, you CAN think about "Matched" tubes. But ONLY if your amp requires it. Single Ended amps don't usually need it except Cathod Biased amps that Bias off a single resistor - but if you own one, you probably should modify it to use 1 resistor per channel (2x the value of the original shared one). Many times Push Pull amps need matched tubes as they may again share a single bias adjust for the pair. Some of the better Push Pull amps have bias adjustments for each of a tube pair. This thread isn't about Matched tubes, so I won't go into more detail. Ask someone who understands design to help you if you want to understand if you need matched tubes (I do, which is why I am telling you NOT to waste $$ on "calibration" tubes!)
  5. My original badge is the one dtel shows in post #47. Now back to my original question. I bought 2 heresy's but only one had a badge. I bought what was adervertised on eBay as a klipsch badge and showed a picture very similar. But when I got it, there was no "etching" filled with paint or anything like it. Rather it was just paint on a plain piece of copper. I have never seen one like that, but I'm no expert. MY ORIGINAL QUESTION is; Is my eBay purchased badge a fake or did Klipsch make them like I describe; "just paint on a plain piece of copper"?
  6. Given Klipsch has taken the time to create a web page about counterfeit klipsch stuff, why don't they create some documentation of how to ID authentic things? Or have they, and I haven't found it?
  7. Hmmm. So I have 2 answers - both "yes" and "no". Not sure how to interpret. Does this mean there are 2 versions of those that are 1/2" x 3"? - One that is etched (either engraved or laser etched) with paint in the etching. - And a second that is merely painted on a flat copper plate? My single original badge is like the first one. The one I got from eBay is like the second description. I don't have really deep background about Klipsch but have never seen the second one on any speakers before, which is what lead me to question its authenticity. So. Are there 2 versions of the badge, with the same logo, but created with a different process? 1 simply painted and the other with paint applied in the voids left from some engraving or laser etching process?
  8. So just coming back. Thanks for all the replies, but no one has answer the actual question. My speakers only came with one. It is engraved. The one from eBay was sold as an original, but is only painted on copper but otherwise has the exact logo (copyright infringment?). Soooo... Did Klipsch ever make versions that were simply painted onto copper? In other words, not engraved - just paint on a flat piece of copper?
  9. I posted my question about counterfeit badges here, have called Klipsch's phone number listed on their counterfeit web page 3 times and left on hold waiting to talk to someone for a VERY long time, and emailed them. No answers from any. Very disappointing. Really diminishes my opinion of this product.
  10. Do I have a counterfeit badge from ebay? When I got my '81 Heresy's they were missing 1 badge. The one that came with it looks like the 3rd one down in post #5 above. The one I got from ebay is not engraved but rather paint on a copper plate. Same dimensions and exact same logo. And not brushed, just shiny copper. Did Klipsch ever make painted (not engraved) badges for Heresy's?
