If you are going the "pretty" route, look up a couple threads from @Matthews He did several pairs of LS that went he resurrected. Those of mine pictured above in @codewritinfool's post were a pair he grabbed that were too far gone for anything other than industrial. Like I said several (3 or 4) detailed threads by Mathews that are a fun read.

If you interpret "tone" into what is written on forums, you are asking to be offended. A while back, I asked Claude a question and his reply seemed harsh to me. While I was busy feeling hurt, he ran calculations for the design I asked about and help me out considerably. I read too much into it. Just my experience.

Why do I feel I just got challenged to a slapping contest by Mike Tyson? Why to which part? If you are referring to swap out the AL, you know better than anyone if that's necessary, enlighten us. I saved the OP time researching. The AL (AB AK) all get beat up pretty good here and elsewhere. I've been tinkering with speakers for over 40 years and the biggest single improvement (to my ears) over those years was when I got rid of my ALs and replaced with AAs. Not just a slight improvement, but a huge improvement. More than when I swapped out my ABs for another x over. Everyone's experience differs. Yours is vast compared to mine. You could help the OP more by answering his question than questioning my answer.

Not really anything to worry about. It just needs to be replaced. Recapping is not recommended. You can pick up a used AA and recap it or get a new AA or A from Crites. Many options. Just wanted you to compare apples to apples. The 00 probably would not need any update.

x over on the 84 would be AL not L That would need to be replaced which would add cost. Figure that in when you compare the two price wise. Like so many things, it may depend on who owned them first, little old lady or head banger! Both very good options if functioning correctly.

It is balanced in and line level out OR line level in and balanced out! Those are the two options. It will not boost balanced to balance or line level to line level. It wasn't an issue for me as I could do it either way but tried line to line first only to find it wasn't an option. The Crown had switchable sensitivity but still didn't match up with the other amps until I boosted the signal.

I use the ART Cleanbox Pro to boost the input level to a Crown amp for my subs. Works exactly as I had hoped. I don't notice any added noise. Solved my issue.

Great album by a local group (to me) Saw them live a few times. Second album pretty much fizzled and the record company dropped them. Two and done like many groups from that era. Still enjoy listening to it on a regular basis.

Congrats on moving south out of Maine. Dexter is a beautiful part of the world eight months out of the year. Used to visit there long ago when I was in the shoe manufacturing business a couple lifetimes ago. Great speakers, great price. They should make someone very happy. Enjoy the next chapter.

I have similar issues with my lower back, roll in arthritis, compression and bulging disc and you're there. Had an MRI and it was decided not to operate as they can fix one or two but not all four and none of them are off the charts. So stretching it is!! Makes all the difference in the world. I also go once a week to get stretched out. Not physical therapy (too costly) but sports medicine type of facility. Keeps me on task and having someone else bend you around gets more accomplished. Sitting still and resting is never an option for me. Something I need to work on but can NOT do currently.

congrats @chassell I have a pair very similar, only splits. Built like tanks. Great sounding speakers especially outside. May need a little TLC but worth the work.

I ended up with a pair in worse condition. I went the bondo / Duratex route. Invested maybe $100. Turned our nice if you like that look. Veneer is very expensive currently but coming down a little. Can't help you as to how much someone would charge to do the work. In the end I also added some alum trim.
