  1. A very good post, and a very resilient man.
  2. We have had two days of fantastic unseasonably warm temps here in the great white north. Currently -1C, usually -16 to -20 this time of year. When opportunity knocks I'm firing up the BBQ likely for the last time until spring. A small rack of lamb for myself and steak for my wife.
  3. That is a nice acquisition for 40 dollars. I would enjoy something like that for my computer/office.
  4. I belong to an Ohm owners group on FB, this was posted yesterday. I'm hoping Voxx International is the buyer. It would really be something to see what Roy could do with this line and concept. Darrell Keith Top contributor · · Hello all, I know it's been awhile so I thought I'd bring you a little more news. Keep in mind I'm not a spokesman for Ohm but just by chance of a phone call I became connected with the late owner's sister and we've had some wonderful conversation. A sale in the company is forthcoming, but as with any estate upon a person's death the estate has to be settled. It's always time-consuming and never goes as quickly as you want it to. Be patient please, Ohm Acoustics is still a viable company but like I said it's dealing with the estate now it's taking the time. Just trying to bring some good news and please be patient.
  5. She's looking pretty comfortable. I'm glad to see this thread revived, always nice looking at other peoples favourite creatures.
  6. Thanks, she has a disposition to match. Balinese, we got her from a cattery down in Calgary 9 years ago.
  7. I did a little digging and the two options you are looking at appear to have the most bang for the buck in that price range. Between the pair I would be inclined to lean towards the Yamaha as is has both Bluetooth and WiFi. They are both good makes. In a perfect world you would be able to demo them and decide that way, but as we know audio shops are getting harder to find. Another to consider is the MARANTZ NR1200, a bit over your budget but the model has been recently discontinued and you could probably find a deal closer to your budget if you looked around.
  8. That is very reasonable especially considering how much a brand new pair of 111s or IVs cost. Essentially brand new speakers.
  9. I read in Stereophile that Ohm Acoustics had been listed for sale in September as he hoped to retire - he was 80 years old. His health was obviously worse than the public was aware. I'm hoping someone or one of the larger groups such as Voxx International, acquires it.
  10. Received an e mail earlier in the week announcing the passing of Ohm Acoustics head John Henry Strohbeen III. Although not Klipsch related, like PWK he was an engineer of great skill and vision chasing audio perfection albeit with a different concept. I have been running a blended Klipch/Ohm system since 2016 when I swapped out my front main RB 61 IIs with Walsh Tall 2000s. Surprisingly enough they have worked seamlessly with my centre and rear speakers. A very nice and humble man, very friendly and easy to deal with. He even gave me a massive discount on shipping as he liked the idea of Ohms in the Northwest Territories, a place he said he had wanted to visit. Another one of the greats has stepped off the audio world stage. Ohm Acoustics <info@ohmspeaker.com> Oct 17, 2023, 3:37 PM (4 days ago) Dear Audiophiles, Artists, Engineers, Designers, Friends, Contemporaries, and Associates of John Henry Strohbeen III, We are sad to share that John passed away recently in his adopted home town of Brooklyn, New York. He left too soon. He was an avid audiophile and engineer who was continuously working to innovate and improve his products, and he had unfinished designs on his desk, unwritten emails to send, and unknown listeners he looked forward to meeting. To those of you who knew him, and knew of his passion for perfection in loudspeakers, and his legendary role in the history of the development of high fidelity audio equipment in the United States, we know he will be missed, and we invite you to share your stories about John. You can go to Facebook and remember John to the world. https://www.facebook.com/groups/403631726459860 Did you call him on the phone and share your interests with him? Did you enjoy listening to his rumbling basso as he patiently explained the newest developments in the Walsh Technology? Perhaps you worked with him designing new speakers, or met him at a trade show. Maybe you bought an original pair of Ohm speakers from Tech Hi-Fi, and have loved them for years. Perhaps you recently found a pair of Ohm speakers at a yard sale, discovered John could repair them, and you were hooked on Hi-Fi when you learned how amazing his speakers could sound. Maybe you opted for an upgrade as you learned about sound stage and imaging, the watts of your amplifier, or the range of response, and you remember that it was John who opened your ears to the possibilities of HI-Fidelity reproduction. Share your experience, and help to keep John's memory alive. John is no longer with us, but his genius will stay with us in the beauty and precision of his wonderful loudspeakers. There is much to know about John's life and work, and much was recorded in his newsletters and articles that are here on the Ohm Website: https://ohmspeaker.com/news/category/articles Explore them, and remember John. We at the Ohm Acoustics family appreciate all of the support shown by the thousands of happy listeners who enjoyed our Speakers. Some of us have been with Ohm for over 50 years, many have come and gone, and some have only just arrived, but all of us came to Ohm because of John Strohbeen, and were captured by his vision and entrepreneurial spirit. We too will miss him. Think of him the next time you enjoy a pair of Ohm speakers. Good listening! Ohm Acoustics
  11. Mine not much at all. The only time I really ever use it is when I'm BBQing. Generally live concert tracks.
  12. They have been creative and successful in the lifestyle product market. For many that is all they want. Their penetration of the commercial market ( pubs and restaurants) with their 301s is huge. You see them everywhere, including our local pub across the street. Would be interesting to see them attempt proper speakers at some point.

We made it back to Yellowknife on Tuesday. My department put me on the early arrival list as essential, so both of us were on the list at the check stop. Have been working like a dervish since Wednesday. Such a backlog. Back into the office tomorrow ( Sept 10th),for a day of overtime. Hopefully by the end of the week things will be caught up enough for us to enjoy the High Holidays. Won't be able to take any time off work other than Yom Kippur of course. Tonight we are sipping a few pints and listening to some Steely Dan whilst I make date honey (silan), for Rosh Hashanah.

Thanks, it has been a crazy couple weeks. Trying to keep up with a massive workflow online to boot. Had to pick up a laptop, just have a desk top at home. Still smokey as anything down here though. We got away later on the day and had to stop in High Level overnight. Pretty much the last room in town. Moved south to Peace River the next morning. Had Golda on leash and Cindy took a picture of her on the hood of the Jeep before we left town.

Hi all, I haven't had time to log in. We were evacuated from YK and made our way down to Peace River Alberta. All in all things have gone well. The cat traveled pretty well and the people in Peace River have been fantastic. Most went down to Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. My wife has relations here and it is in northern Alberta so our turn around driving time will be less - only 11 hours or so. My wife is considered essential so we have been given the go ahead to return on Tuesday the 5th.
  16. We are planning on installing the adhesive foam ceiling tiles in our condo. There are several companies that make them.
  17. Update Well I thought I had corrected the problem of the high pitched test tone sound that was being emitted. Turns out I had accidentally partially corrected it. The sound returned Thursday night. This time I discovered the true cause - the speaker connection to the centre channel! A couple of the small wires in the cable were slightly loose and touching the casing, causing a short like effect. I don't use banana plugs and will likely pick some up. Twisted the wires tight, reconnected them and it is now permanently gone. I'm amazed I didn't spot this the first time. When I was working on it last time I must have inadvertently moved the wire back into position with out realizing it.
  18. I wasn't able to make that one, however I'm actually even more keen to see Steely Dan.
  19. Sounds like a show for the ages, I'll keep my eyes peeled for any western Canada dates that may materialize down the road. Would be worth a flight to either Edmonton or Calgary.
  20. I seem to have cured the problem. Cleaned the entire back of the avr, checked all connections - one of the rca cables to the CD player was loose. Pulled out and re-plugged all HDMI cables. Whatever it was it seems to be gone!
  21. I don't have anything that goes that far. I am in a condo tower in a city with a massive amount of power outs, the odd surge and brown out. My surge protectors might be toast as well. I'll have to go with the process of elimination. At the moment it is fine. No ryhme or reason for this .
  22. The first time it happened last night it was all speakers including the centre.
