  1. I have a new set of front mains on the way (Ohm Walsh Tall 2000). They are less efficient than the stand mounted RB61 IIs Iam currently using. I am considering that I may need (or want), a boost for the front left/right due to this lessened efficiency as well as the fact they draw 6ohms vs 8 for the surrounds and centre. Any recommendations for a two channel putting out 150watts or better that will sound nice without breaking the bank?
  2. I have it with my Marantz. I like it.
  3. A bit of a bump and update. i didn't really care for the first veneer samples sent to me by Ohm Accoustics. Living where I do in the far north, mail is beyond slow. Second choice was the Rosewood which is a much better match to my existent wood furniture. My Ohm Walsh Tall 2000s are being built next week and should be here in early December. I will write a synopsis of my impressions once they are set up properly and going.

    New TV

You are correct, I had been looking for a deal on them but was unable to find a seller willing to ship to Canada. The Canadian dealers wanted the bad side of four grand for a pair. I decided to take a risk and ordered some nice handmade in America Ohm Walsh Tall 2000s. A completely different sound that I have a strong feeling I may greatly enjoy. Have viewed the veneer samples they sent and should probably have them here in a month or so. Once they are here and set up I'll post my impression of them.

    New TV

Older post...the new TV project did get kicked down the road a ways but we FINALLY picked up one last weekend. A Sony KDL60W630B. Very nice and at a great price. Decided to stay away from 4k for now due to lack of content. Very pleased - motion is much smoother than the older Sony. Did compare Samsung,LG and Panasonic, but the Sony had the nicest looking picture (to our eyes), of the lot. 60 inches seems to be the perfect size for the living room. Looking forward to watching some English Premier League football games next weekend as well as the World Cup of Hockey which is coming up fast.
  6. It is the actual manufacturing jobs lost, along with those of American suppliers and their staff, transportation, warehousing etc. It does have a net effect beyond the individual company. An economy is much like an eco system. On the other hand...design and marketing jobs are kept in America as well as transportation and retailing. All in all more domestic manufacturing is the bigger bang for the buck as far as the national economy is concerned. The money spreads farther and touches more people. It is a true conundrum if your companies competitors are offshoring. A company that fails employs no one.
  7. It would be nice to see more Klipsch products made in the USA- says the Canadian guy who didn't buy domestic made Paradigms. I look at American products much like I look at Canadian made; apples to apples as they say. The wage differential is inconsequential. Perhaps if Klipsch had the resourses to up automation and efficiencies the reference lines could be made in the States but it is a great gamble as the competitors are offshoring like crazy. At least the high end are still made in your country as are the Ohm Walsh speakers I have ordered (still going through my wood veneer selection process- they actually mail you samples of the colours in order to see them in real life!). These are strange times indeed.
  8. At a 15' distance the peak of an 88db speaker is 93db with a 75 watt signal. So that works!Everybody knows you can only piss your neighbors off with Klipsch. edit: "Ohm" I God, did I just make a pun? You did indeed, and a very good one at that! Thanks for for insight and input.
  9. They are 6ohm speakers rated at 88db, the Ohm folk say that my 100watt per Marantz will drive them. Would you suggest I keep an eye open for a higher powered amp/receiver down the road? If so, what sort of power do you think would be ideal?
  10. Loudness is irrelevant to me and not a factor. I live in a high rise condo tower and listening is done at moderate levels, occasionally high moderate. As I mentioned initially , my tastes and listening habits have changed with age and lifestyle. I'm more interested in realistic uncoloured presentation. Once these bad boys show up, I'll post my honest thoughts about them. My current system is four Klipsch 61RB IIs with a RC62II centre and small Klipsch sub.
  11. Specs are within the ballpark of the RF-7II : 2000 Tall: 32-20,000 RF-7II: 30-24,000 Unlike thier legacy products they are now more a 180 or so rather than a 360 speaker making them much easier to place. The WAF is huge as they look like nice wooden pillars with a small footprint.
  12. The paradigms are nice for sure. I wanted to try something different that has a wider soundstage and sounds good off axis. I had been intrigued with much I have read about thier new lines re clarity and musicality. They do have a 120 day home trial period so they can go back if they don't fit the bill. You are correct about the body of the speaker; the downward firing driver sends lower notes downward through the tuned ported box (ported underneath the speaker). It gives them good extended bass, meaning I should be able to retire my sub from music duties.
  13. They are a very nice sounding speaker. I have four of them in my system.
  14. Took a leap of faith and have ordered a pair of the new Ohm Walsh Tall 2000s. A complete change of direction but curiosity and all that... A very different design and concept that just might have legs with my evolving tastes and listening habits. Was thinking about a pair of RF-7 IIs but no good deals to be found in Canada. Have been sitting on the fence for a couple months and have decided to try the Ohms, another iconic American speaker. Dealt directly with John Strohbeen, who is president and head designer( and has been since the 70s). Sort of a PWK/Bob Crites rolled into one within the Ohm universe. Will post my thoughts once I have them.
  15. What are the odds? I looked into purchasing this exact model model last year but the shipping costs and the low Canadian dollar put the kibosh on it. I had a cabinet maker friend make me a duplicate of it in pine with a slight widening in order to accommodate my RC62 II centre. We also altered the bottom two drawers into a single unit.
  16. There are a great many of us loyal to the Crown. There are many in Quebec who are not as well as number of anti monarchists. Fortunately they are a minority.
  17. A great holiday to all our great southern neighbours! It doesn't happen that often but we share a long weekend. Canada Day ( we used to call it Dominion Day- most of us Royalists still do), was Friday. G-d bless America and each and every one of you from your friends and allies in Canada.
  18. That was my thought as well. I can't see them letting it go after all the work to design it without at least considering repurposing it into another product.
  19. I think it has a lot to do with WAF and room aesthetics. The narrower footprint is easier to work with. Showed my wife photos of Chorus II and the RF-7 II and it was no contest. RF-7 II hands down. Same thing with the LaScala...to thick, in her words. A three way RF7 would be ideal. The Palladium P17b received a Class A rating from Stereophile due to the smoothness of the two horns, and those guys aren't usually fans of anything Klipsch.
  20. Old thread but I have been thinking trickle down here. Now that it looks like the Palladium may be wrapping up an RF-7 III utilizing a Palladium style tweeter and midrange horn might be a good offering. The development costs and such must have been long recouped.
  21. Fantastic. You don't run into many of his caliber every day.
  22. Congrats, I'm on the hunt for a pair myself. Love to hear what you think of them in a few days.
  23. The local Chamber of Commerce should take it upon themselves to promote and recognize a homegrown business of this historic character.
