  1. Looks really good and makes me realize how little I know about tube equipment. The older I get the more I realize how much I don't know. Now when I was young it was the reverse...
  2. I would concur with Rivernuggets, the61 IIs are a better deal. I have four of them and am impressed with the quality. Then factor in they are brand new. 350 for a pair is very good.
  3. sorry to hear this news YK Thom I do hope that your father is recovering. All of my dads family had heart issues and there were strokes on my mothers side. My sister died at the age of twenty one from internal hemorrhage probably an aneurysm. We can make things worse or better in our lives it's a choice to do or not to do we still choose. Best regards Moray James. He did indeed pull out of it, although in a weakened state. In fact he was up here in Yellowknife for a visit two weeks ago. His mobility is reduced but he can still get around. There is always hope.
  4. Although he is not Jewish I chanted the Mi Shebeirach for him. This is a tough spot for someone his age. My father is a little younger ( late 70s), and ended up in an induced coma in a Florida hospital last December. Similar sort of issues.
  5. It was/is a combo of great sound quality plus play length. You could get quite a few hours out of great mix tapes. At the time amazing and super easy to use. These days though, digital kids would be baffled as thier seemingly endless storage capacity would make reel to reel seem very limited. Being an old bugger, should I happen across the right Rtr in good condition, I'd snap it up in a New York minute.
  6. Was at the pub after work watching the game. It was great. They may go all the way this year.
  7. Which Harmony model would you recommend? I currently have five devices.
  8. I'm still noodling around with mine since we moved. Part of the issue is he wife keeps rearanging the room. I noticed that the Audessy has set different crossover points for the different speakers. The rb61 IIs go down to 45, the RC 62 57. Would 80 all around be the best bet?
  9. I don't know AVR temps but I do know PC temps can bump up to 140F with no problem. My gaming PC which I have running at standard clock speeds usually runs about 100 degrees. Does your manual list standard operating temperatures? It does not seem to be indicated in the manual.
  10. I'll feel better once the fan (dual) arrive. Seems to be just over 100 with music and went up to 120 during a movie last night. As part of the design the bottom of the unit has multiple slots cut, almost like a grill. It is the same on all the other shelves.
  11. I have a Marantz SR 5008 HT reciever. Have had a new peice of AR furniture built to house it and other components. Using a heat gun I find that it seems to run between 105 and 120 f. I have a cooling fan unit on order which should be here anytime. How hot is too hot for this type of equipment?
  12. Heard about this on the radio. Classic
  13. I'll try that. I have a bit of wiggle room with location and WAF. I will also seriously look into Quiet's idea. Where would you suggest I should try setting my sub crossover at?
  14. Gentlemen, I thank you one and all for the responces as well as the generous offers to put a spare mic in the mail and send it all the way to the Canadian Arctic to a person you have never had the chance to actually meet. This speaks volumes about the character of the members of this forum. It seems we share more than just a love of the classic American sound and our hobby in general. Through my personal network up here, I have fluked into one which I can borrow tommorow ( what are the odds?) so my situation is solved
  15. I hope I can make it work as I'm pretty tapped out from the move. I understand what you are saying. A new sub right now would involve a lawyer and couch surfing...
  16. The sub is a fairly modest KW100 (down firing and rear ported). Up until now it has served me well. The room is not huge and I don't go for thundering wall/floor shaking bass-I'm in a high rise condo after all. I like to noodle around and get it to the point that my stand mounts sound like floor standers. The RB61IIs spec out from 45HZ to 24 KHZ.
  17. In the process of setting up the system in a new place with a larger room than the former. My new AV unit is wider than the old one so the front mains will need to be farther apart. Have heard many recommend the equilateral triange route. I think I may be able to almost accomplish this. The speakers ideally (if the right is to remain on a stand) will need to be 11 feet apart. The centre point on the chesterfield will be about 10 feet back. There is room for play as we have several feet free behind the couch and back wall intended as a clear walkway to access the balconey. My rears for the first time will be behind the listening area rather than beside. Before I start cutting cable, will RB61IIs perform with this much separation? At the old place they were only eight feet apart.
  18. Moving is the ultimate exercise in personal chaos and carnarge. I suddenly remembered why I couldn't find my Marantz manual...I didn't have one, it was a download. Turns out the exact mic that I seek is the ACM1HB. I have a pretty good memory but it seems to be short...
  19. Are there any differences with these Mics? When setting up at my former residence I was surprised by how simple looking it was.
  20. I end up with the Monoprice 14 gauge in the white vinyl casing. Got a pretty good deal on it.
  21. Just moved into the new place a couple weeks ago. The final missing peice was the new AV unit a cabinet maker friend had been working on; well we brought it home today and it is perfect. My problem is that I cannot find for love or money my Audessy mic that came with my Marantz SR5008. Have been through the final boxes to no avail. It was/is the tower type. Are they available? And are they standard? Working on wiring things up tonight but will want to run the Audessy program asap.
  22. A lot of technology in these. Good luck with your quest! They really were something. If someone at EV went barking mad and reissued a limited edition release I would camp out overnight (a la my youth and Stones tickets), to get a pair. Always loved Klipsch and EV which is logical I suppose as there was a certain amount of of overlap. Are those yours?
