  2. I have a feeling we might be hearing from the OP today.   Just a hunch, nothing more.

I broke down and went for the 83s. Scrappydue and his tricks...having them set up for me to listen and fall in love. Just felt like I'd regret not pulling the trigger.

Thanks for all the help guys. I can't say you didn't warn me about convincing me to spend more than I wanted. It's a very real problem we have on this forum :P

  3. Ah, okay. Thanks for the additional info and helping this newbie figure things out!

I still have a month or so before I'm going to pull the trigger on a tv, so I'm in no real rush. I'll hang tight and see if the 62/82s go on sale somewhere, or if someone on the forum here want to part ways with some.

  4. Yeah thanks for all the feedback. My wife has given me the "freedom" to get a set that match, are black, and have standard towers for fronts. So no Heresys for me, unfortunately :/

I've updated the original post to indicate that I am now only needing the fronts and center, and am hoping to nab those for ~$500. Still open for either the 62s or 82s.

  5. Nice, thanks Ibiza. The heresey's won't work for me, unfortunately. I need all the speakers to be black and the fronts need to be floor-standing towers. This is a requirement from the boss (wife). I'll PM you about the RS-42s.

  6. New to Klipsch and home theater in general. I was advised to post a WTB here :)

Want to buy RF-62 or RF-82 5.0 home theater setup for around $700. Would like 62s or 82s tower with matching center and surrounds.

For those scouring craigslist, I'm in Kansas City but am willing to drive ~5 hours (which includes Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Omaha, Des Moines)

EDIT: I picked up the RS-42 II's from Ibiza, so am now looking for the fronts and center only and am hoping to land all three speakers for around $500 or so.

EDIT2: I'm all set!! Thanks to IbizaFlame for the RF-52s. Thanks to Scrappydue for the RF-83s and RC-62. Gonna have a killer setup for my first home theater (though if Scrappydue is any kind of foreshadowing of my future, I may just be getting started...)

  7. Thanks for the reply, kapsn01.

My max budget is $1,500, but that includes a receiver. I was probably going to nab one of those on accessories4less, and try to keep it under $300 -- which would leave $1200 for the rest. I'm not really looking to just buy a couple things and add to it later. I want to get a full 5.1 setup for that $1,200. I can maybe go a little bit higher than that, but I would want to make sure the bump in quality justifies spending the additional money. So if a $100 speaker is only marginally worse than a $400 speaker, I'd prefer to just go with the $100 one, if that makes sense.

But it sounds like you're saying, even at $100/speaker, the SF-2 is not going to get the job done well enough to justify pulling the trigger -- especially if there is no real rush to build out the set?

I have been keeping an eye on craigslist, but since I live in Kansas City, there aren't a huge number of postings to choose from. The only one that has seemed to be a decent deal is in cherry finish, which isn't aesthetically pleasing enough, apparently :P

  8. Newbie here...both to HT and to the Klipsch forum.

I'm trying to put together a 5.1 setup for my newly refinished basement home theater. I came across a used set of SF-2s for cheap and am wondering if they still hold up as a solid option and would be worth getting for $100. If so, what would you guys recommend as matching center and surrounds? I'm thinking of an SVS PB-1000 sub (primary use will be movies and video games), and the space is somewhat small (12'x13').

The root of my question is should I pull the trigger on these, and scurry around to find matching speakers (based on your recommendations), or should I wait for black friday and pick up the R-28F and set from Best Buy? Or is there another option I should consider? I know you guys love the reference ii series, but I'm trying to keep the speakers + sub to $1,200 max. With the sub coming in around $500, that leaves about $700 for the 5 speakers. Also note, the wife nixed bookshelf speakers for the front -- so full tower options only :(

Thanks folks. I appreciate any advice you can offer!
