  1. because none of us watching this are close enough to swoop in & rescue them?
  2. yep, pretty dang good story, and welcome from another newbie. if I find your Jubs, maybe we can trade - for the Belles I want, or something like that? I'm thinking maybe I should start scrounging thru the GW stores & such near me. who knows what one will find
  3. Post is still there... if only shipping wasn't so complicated. What a deal this would be!
  4. Exactly what I'm thinking. Now to figure out inspection, and the hard part, shipping.
  5. $250 ??? Oh my! The finish needs some help, but would these not almost be worth shipping most anywhere at this price?
  6. btw - you guys that perform these rehabs, rescues, rebuilds, etc - you need to pace yourselves so you can keep that good work going. Matthews - I'd have loved to jump on that set, or a set of Belles, or something like that, but just really need to exercise restraint for a while. gotta send the step daughter away to college in January, so really need to start pinching pennies. bums me out a bit, but I'll be able to look back on that with pride in the future. so you guys keep up the beautiful work! I want a pair of these when I can do it guilt free
  7. it's right there, next to the black AmEx
  8. ditto. those are beauties! being such a newbie to Klipsch, I hadn't thought a lot about the LS. I didn't think they they had the look I like, but I obviously hadn't seen any pics of ANYTHING like these! wow. what a job! GLWS
  9. what I usually do, since I work in this field, is grab another pc, and a connection device to connect & mount that old HD via usb, copy desired data from it to a viable pc (that 2nd one) then if / as desired, copy again either to a long term backup location (archive type drive or set, NAS or the like) or to a replacement pc. that's my preferred method of operation. good luck. keep us posted which approach you try & your results. sounds like there are a few who can offer advice or support.
  10. guys / folks - that is AWESOME info !!! cannot say thanks enough for sharing that info, experience & all that! will have to take a look at some of these CA's, Anthems, and probably NAD as well. I remember from back in the day (late 70's, 80's) that NAD had (at least) a very solid rep in groups such as this. and I think I kind of danced around this, but I have accepted that in order to blend/add HT to the same speakers, that I likely will compromise music by adding versatility. at this time, that is quite acceptable. down the road, maybe I can branch back out to a HT system and a 2nd system to be more music oriented. thank you very much for tips folks! John edit: and also, I'd like to extend my gratitude to the forum in general. I don't have a lot to offer to others re advice, etc, but I 'lurk' and read a lot of the advice, discussions, etc among you guys with 1000's of posts. I respect your opinions & experience, and just wanted to post those thoughts. thanks to all!!!
  11. no, I did not. that is one of the many things I'm trying to get a grip on - getting an understanding of which ones will require an external amp vs which do not. still looking around at options. and one thing about this is that while I am looking, checking things out etc, I do want to take some time on this, for a couple reasons. 1) - make the best possible choice for whatever I decide I'm going to spend as well as 2) - pay off a couple other things before making this size/type investment. (making myself hold this like a carrot as a reward for taking care o' bidness on those other accounts before I 'treat myself' to this investment/upgrade) I'd love to make the jump to a McIntosh, but not sure I want/can do that financially to get the features I want. and am still sorting those out. I want hi perf audio both from the HT audio as well as (what I guess is) 2-ch, with ability to expand to a sub (2.1 ?). working on organizing my mp3 & digital audio to one place, so looking to be able to include that thru this system as well... not to mention some concern (should I be?) and this, what is it, HDCP 2.2, compatibility (forward and/or backward?) and all that.
  12. ok - so can anyone here offer any feedback on the Pioneer Elite lineup, since they may/may not be discounted ahead of upcoming model releases? I do have a TV that does UHD & 4K . don't take much advantage of it right now, no finite plans to do so in the future but do want to be flexible to be able to do so. budget = probably < $1500 or so. initially, HT will be pretty basic - not really much of a HT at all. will be using Heresy I's as mains; no Atmos or 3-D now, or in the plans at this time. use = movies, etc. some 2 ch, would like to be able to run A+B mains for music when desired. surely a sub out, and USB/digital media connection would be included. video pass thru I think would be good to have, as well as pre-outs too. (learning a lot about all this; it's been years since I've been into much of this. and when I was into the audio part, the HT was barely beginning, so I'm playing catch-up on tech, terminology, and all that.) Also - does not have to be new! nothing at all against buying already broken in gear with proper due diligence ahead of time (buyer beware, etc) I feel like I have the WAF in good shape to start researching options. I'm running my Heresy's with an old HK receiver, and show her the pix of the CW's & Belles I'd love to have (but not that many come up within reasonable distance of me). she asks 'why you keep looking at speakers when you have these? have you thought about updating/upgrading the receiver?' my response is yes, I have but I don't know yet what features etc I want, or what's available. and in speakers, I do know what I want - CW, Belles - and am just lying in wait for the right ones to show up. so, I will check the links & info already provided, and appreciate any advice you guys who have been there - done that are willing to offer. Thanks very much! edit: so, after posting all that above, I found this on the bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/McIntosh-MX119-Preamp-Processor-NICE-Condition-/371692896479 I am learning the impressive amount of respect here for McIntosh and am familiar second hand with their reputation. so, I don't guess I could go wrong with an MX119, could I? and even though I would have to act quickly to jump on this particular auction, right now at seems like a pretty good buy. and I'm not normally one to make a quick buy on something like this anyway.

    LaScalas for Sale

ad is still up today, so must not have had any real takers yet.
  14. thanks Hog for your notes on the experience. in my case, for a noob to Klipsch, that is highly valuable. my brother-in-law has a pair of CW's from probably the 70's or early 80's, and I drool over them even just thinking about them. I've already put the word in that if he ever considers parting with them - which I think highly unlikely, I would like 1st dibs. CW & Belles/LS are on my "realistic" wish list... hopefully, one of these days, I'll get me some of that. good job sir, and thanks.
  15. my better half & her daughter had gotten me watching that. that show is out there a bit. interesting, but IMO, out there. I heard that it has been cancelled - maybe no more after this season. boo hoo.

^ what he said. IDK that I will ever try this, but I do find it very interesting to follow. who knows, I might actually learn something. Dean seems like the man on these xo's! thanks again Dean for sharing what you've learned!
  17. in fall 2014, we decided we needed to upgrade. since much of our indoor leisure is spent as couch potatoes, finding something to entertain us visually was an important investment to us, and were willing to look at it like that (translation: be open to spending a little more now to enjoy over the long haul.) that said, we shopped for best affordable picture quality as most important criteria. shopping in person @ best buy etc led us to believe Samsung had the best result over Vizio in a close race. the women at my place wanted the curved screen tech, which wasn't such a big deal to me, so ok. we landed on the Samsung 55" curved UHD that I think is also 4k upscale compatible, and have been very well pleased, with no real regrets [or as they say on the tv ad - regerts ] I'm searching for the model # we have, because of course I don't remember. but in searching for 2 yr old model numbers is not smacking me in the face with anything I recognize. as I recall, retail on our set then was about $1800. when I was at BB recently, I was in awe of the newer, larger, more brilliant models out now. my advice, fwiw, is do your diligence, filter down to which brands & sizes meet your criteria - price, picture quality, whatever those are - and go for it. we love our Samsung, couldn't be much happier. good luck sir.
  18. IDK... I don't do very well at all multi tasking, so if I begin with the intention of having background music on while I do <whatever>, I usually end up at least drumming my fingers & day dreaming, or finding something to give the system & the neighbors a workout. so I might as well offer something I like for that last part - to misappropriate a phrase, best played at maximum volume Aerosmith - Pump
  19. wvu - awesome! thank you very much!!! that's exactly the info I'm looking for! not so much for this instance, but more a "for future reference" kind of thing. many thanks again!
  20. sooo... help a noob out a little please. for an auction on the bay like this, I guess if you're interested in a pair like this, it would probably be best to check them out before submitting a bid, yes? or as some have offered, send a trusted 'proxy' to check them over? and that now seems like mostly a no brainer, since it would be bad bay business to reneg after winning the auction if you didn't like them. thanks for the advice in advance.
  21. BamaMike - did I see in another thread that you're in or around Montgomery AL? (back in the day, we used to call it MonkeyTown, but anyway...) years ago, I used a place in metro Birmingham that I think is still there. staff has probably turned over some, but within the last year or 2, last I saw, they were still there. Audio & Video Service Co, Inc. http://avs-design.com/default.asp it's been ages since I've used them, but they did a good job on my H-K receiver that I'm still using
  22. yes, they do - very well! thanks MG!
  23. Perhaps Flat Black? I'd go with flat black. not glossy at all.
