  1. Dear Comrades! Sorry to have been MIA for a while, I was in a pretty nasty auto accident and got T'boned. Thus, I am finally being able to get around to resume my work on my LSi's. I will be posting new pics after dinner. Today was very productive, I was able to get both of the K43's installed back into the doghouse. I tested the K43 to ensure I connected the leads correctly and one of the woofers was coming in at 6ohms, and the other one is 3.8 ohms. For clarity purposes, I am measuring the woofers directly at the connection spot in the top box, not using the crossovers. Shouldn't both be about 4 ohms? Should I be worried/concerned about the woofer measuring at 6 ohms? If so, what can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance all.
  2. Hey guys! I finally had some time to get started on my LSi rehab. I have found some interesting things, learned a whole lot more about these speakers and developed a TON more appreciation for those who do this regularly (and making such beautiful LS creations), such as Matthews. I have started on one box, and so far found out the following: tweeter was a motorola piezo tweeter - I believe it is a KSN 1025. tweeter cutout?!?!? Previous owner cut some additional space to enlargen the tweeter fitting. Spakle time... to fill up the cutaway. my KV-55M driver was a bit loose to the 401 horn my 401 horn wont come out of the top box/bin due to this screwy 3/4 inch lip that apparently is magically held in place (without any visible screws) my K43-K driver only had 5 or 6 screws, which were loose, holding the driver to the bass bin. my K43-K driver's dust cap fell off This is exciting and am I taking as many non-boring pictures as I can to document the process, should anyone else be interested. So couple of questions for the gang: a. is it a problem that my KV-55M was loose to the 401? How tight should it be to the 401? b. any ideas what is holding that pesky 3/4 inch lip in the upper bin? c. How many screws should the K43-K should have? And am I correct that these suckers should be tighten to tight as heck? d. Feedback on my K43-K. Look forward to hearing from yall. -Alex
  3. Mookie - Those are some very desirous LSi's. I really like how the duratex looks on them. Can I ask for a closeup to see the coat/finish up close? Also that trim really really looks FANTASTIC!!!! Are they on casters or something? They look elevated.
  4. JMON - yep...assuming you're referring to the "Klipsch speakers" posted last week without any reference to them being LaScalas (or for that matter LSi's) then you'd be correct. Colterphoto1 & Schu - both of you gentlemen are correct regarding the tweeters. JimJimbo is correct with the planned replacements. When I removed the tweeters, they were manufactured by Motorola and couldn't locate a model number. If interested, I can post a pic.
  5. Thank you all for your comments. Mr. Mookie, I definitely like how your trim turned out, that's exactly the look I am seeking. The only extra thing I would consider adding is a piece of trim at the end of the folded horn on the front of the bass bins.
  6. Fellow Klipsch comrades, I am happy to share that I got a pair of LaScala Industrial this weekend. These are my first and while I love my current set up of Forte II's, in the limited garage listening time, the LSi's (in my opinion) definitely have better detail to the sound and the dynamics are quite impressive. They are the single piece and in pretty good shape -- no damage to the doghouse and the drivers are all within specs. I will be entering them in to a rehab program and once completed they will be placed in the living room to displace my Forte II. I want to share and give special recognition to Matthews and JimJimbo, both of these guys are BEYOND awesome. Both of these guys provided some great advice and I wouldn't have felt the same level of confidence in getting the LSi's if it hadn't been for these guys. Thanks a million!!! So the plan for rehab is as follows: Paint a fresh couple of coats of duratex Buy some Crites tweeters Buy new caps to refresh the AL-3's. Buy some aluminum trim All told, i think I anticipate spending about $275 to get where I want to be. Any additional thoughts or suggestions are welcomed. And yes, I'll be documenting the rehab process... -Alex
  7. Can I add my name it the mix for a pair of forte II or chorus II.
  8. Unfriggin' real, with boxes???? You should stop right now and go get that friend a good bottle of whiskey, you made out like a bandit. Good score!
  9. Oh ok, do you notice any difference in sound staging/imaging, or tonal qualities?
  10. Howdy Forte II comrade! What did you replace the crossovers with?
  11. Thanks guys for the feedback. Skibum: I have read somewhere where someone else also felt at times this amp was "dry". They also went on to praise the sound staging and imaging. Have you owned/demoed the SuperZen? Here is my setup: Speakers - Klipsch Forte II (on 5" aluminum legs) Room size - 14'5" by 12'5" Room specifics - 8 foot ceilings, carpeted, microfiber couch in the middle. Speaker Placement - they are about 8" to 12" inches away from the walls and about 6'6" apart. Aercool/Matthews: Thanks for the referral, I am intrigued by TS amps. I will reach out to Matt and learn more. Alto: do you still have those Zen Triodes?
  12. Hey folks, I am about to enter into the world of tubes and I would like to know if anyone here has used a Decware SuperZen amp. If you have used this amp or the Zen Amp from Decware, I would like to hear your thoughts. I will be driving Forte II's. Listed below is the page for the amp I'm considering. http://www.decware.com/newsite/SE84CKCS.html Thanks again guys!
  13. Thank you all for your feedback. I currently use my setup for records, but I am considering expanding my setup to a 5.1 setup. The setup include a pair of KG4's for rears and an Academy or KLF-C7 or RC-3. Eventually this would also require a different receiver too, as my Marantz 2252 doesn't have 5.1,
  14. Hi Al! I am in search for a replacement driver for my KG4. The driver model I am seeking is a K-8-K. Does anyone have one to sell? Thanks in Advance, Mr. Music Fan
  15. Thanks Derrick, I wasn't dead set on 3 channel setup, Also for point of clarification, I was going to use the "B" terminals off the back of my Marantz and not touch the Fortes.
  16. Hey guys, I am thinking of buying a Klipsch Academy speaker to complement my Forte II's. I am using a Marantz 2252 receiver to drive my Forte's and I listen to vinyl and a couple of tv shows. Goal: Create a center channel to enhance the stereo sound. h Questions: A. Is it possible to use my "B" set of speaker terminals, specifically using both positive outputs from the Right and Left terminals to power the Academy speaker? B. is this really even worth it? Am I wasting my time/money on chasing a golden goose? C. Is the Academy speaker really that good of a center channel? Thanks in advance!
  17. Arrow: Will definitely continue to contribute to the shared information wealth. When I was demoing my new speakers, the seller showed me his impressive Klipsch heritage setup. He had several awesome pairs of speakers. He mentioned that he was selling this set of fortes to help fund a purchase of K-Horns. This guy was awesome. WV80: Thanks for your feedback and experience. I did end up running my fortes and Heresey at the same time, and was pleasantly surprised. The Heresey definitely added some higher to upper mid frequency to the Forte (not that the Fortes were slacking) but certainly didn't distract from their own sound. Kinda odd, but the way I would describe it is like painting by numbers and then realizing you could add some highlights without distracting from the main painting. Hopefully that makes sense. In any case, I will keep my Heresy's around for a while longer. I will be giving my KG4s to my sister as a Xmas gift, will go with her Marantz I gave her a while back. As for what the future holds, my immediate need is to get one of the passive radiator repaired as the seller was upfront and we discussed the broken radiator. I will be sending both radiators to simply speakers to be reconed. After that, I am looking into ALK's crossovers for the Fortes. But that's the plan for today, who knows what tomorrow or next week shall bring.
  18. I will definitely try that halfler effect out, sounds intriguing. Thanks Arrow, I actually had a great conversation with the owner and demoed them at his house for about 2 hours. Nice guy and willing to answer all my million questions.
  19. Interesting idea/concept Ski, will try that out as well. Good thoughts gentlemen! Keep them coming!
  20. Oh and one parting thought, both my HWO and my Forte II are stock. But I've heard so much about Bob Crites and his crossovers and replacement/upgraded tweeters. Have you guys used his stuff?
  21. Jimbo, they sound just dandy with the HWO on speaker set "b". The real test is tomorrow morning, when I can crank it up a bit and hear them roar a bit.
  22. Thanks John, I have them at about 13 inches from the wall facing straight ahead. Tomorrow I will adjust the toe in to find the "spot".
  23. Yes, you are correct. I have speaker system "a" and "b". I am able to use both systems at the same time, but was wondering if it was a good idea or not.
