  1. Yeah, MOST people are. But its the people who LOOK for situatiins like this to try and scam someone.
  2. Yes, that is why. Counterfeiting. If people think they can screw you, they will. And that's any where. If I see the money come out of the bank and into my hand, I know it's good.
  3. I have 2 brand new in the box RP-280F's in black for sale. They came from Crutchfield. I bought them during one of their subwoofer specials. Asking $1,100.00. I live in Lees Summit, Mo. I'd take a paypal payment or cash. If cash, I'd want to meet at buyers bank for withdrawl. Let me know if interested..
  4. So I got all of this stuff set up, now how do I calibrate it? I have all my crossovers set at 80hz which seems to be the standard? How do I match gains on the subs? From what I've gathered from reading, I have to use an SPL meter? I downloaded one on my phone, which I know is not the most accurate, but trying to use it. So do I just play like a certain frequency sine wave with each sub alone and turn the gain dial until I get the same DB reading on this phone meter? I've tried that with a continuous 40Hz sine, but one sub, by ear seems to be louder than the other. Say there's 10 hash marks on the gain dial, one sub is at like 7, and the other is at 10, and the 10 sounds like it's working harder than the other, but they match SPL on the meter. How about setting speaker levels? FL, C, FR, LS, RS? How do I get everything to blend together?
  5. I have a Denon AVR-X1200W that I will be using. I'll probably go with 14-16 guage speaker wire. I could probably use some recommendations on a good sub RCA cable. And I'll probably be back with questions or searching the forum on setup and calibration.
  6. Sorry John, just now saw your post. I've already pulled the trigger. I'm not hurting for money too bad, so when I get moved, and decide to do a full cinema, I would probably sell this stuff off and put that money toward a new setup. Went ahead and went balls to the wall. Got the RP-280 system with free 15" sub, and got a second 15 for $350. Basically got everything you see here for $3,000.00. Now I get to figure out how to set it all up to play right.
  7. So it's time to upgrade my baby HTIB. Thought about this a year and a half ago, and let the wife talk me off the ledge. NOW, I'm calling the shots. I think. LOL! I'm undecided though on if I should go with the 260 system of the 280? My living room size is 11'x 17'. I KNOW I could get away with the 260 system, but in another year, don't want to be thinking, man I shoulda just went with the 280's. I've also thought about basically the 280 system with the 260 towers since the specs are virtually identical, but had a guy at Nebraska Furniture Mart tell me the 260 won't blend right with the 450C . But was wondering if he was just trying to up sell me the 280's. Also thought about just 2 12" subs with the 280 system too, although seems like everyone here is always "go for the 15's!" They are just SO HUGE. But with the special Klipsch has right now with free subs, I could tie up a little money and get with entire RP-280 System with 2 R-115SW's for about $2,800.00. Whereas pieced out it would be $4,493.00. This will also be some what temporary until we move and I dedicate a room to a home cinema. Then THAT will be balls to the wall.
  8. I skimmed through here quickly, so I could have missed it, but what is the best position suppose to be for side surrounds? I've read multiple things. To the side direct earshot 12-24" above seated position. 12" behind direct earshot 12-24" above seated position. To the side direct earshot at ear level? Sounds like that's pretty wide range of locations.
  9. Kick rocks *******! LOL I'M JUST KIDDING. I had the pleasure of meeting Scrappy this weekend, he invited me into his home and gave me free advice. He's a cool guy and very knowledgeable. They'll always be the people who know more than you, and will rile you up behind a keyboard. Just have to try it in stride. I got your number, so I may be looking to you for advice in the future. Take care if you're coming to an end here.
  10. Why the 6.5" over the 8"? Just let the sub do the lows/sound quality? Cost effective?
  11. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. G-Rod: What is difference between RP-260F and RP-280F - i mean bass. The woofers have a 1.5 inches difference. The differences are bit, little, average or maybe large? The 260 and 280 are the same efficiency +-1dB. The strength of the bass is about the same, it's just that the 260s don't go quite as deep as the 280s. The main difference, imo, is the size of the horn. According to my ears, the 260 and 280 towers are VERY VERY close in sound and output. Which is why the efficiency is only 1db difference. The man differences I heard were in the center channels and the subs.
  12. And what line was the salesman selling? Let's see, maybe Marantz? I would honestly doubt that you are going to find a solid consensus here between the two. When I was into HT, I was always very happy with my Yamaha gear, especially the Aventage line. Both have great feature sets, it just depends on what you want to spend, and what you need. He sold both Yamaha and Marantz. Of the two he pushed Marantz.
  13. Anyone else want to weigh in on an opinion? The more I look and read, the more I'm now leaning on the Marantz stuff.
  14. So now I'd like to have some guidance to a good receiver. I was originally interested in the Yamaha RX-A1050. While checking out the Klipsch RF-260 and RF-280 systems, I mentioned this to the salesman and he then recommended the Marantz SR5010. Whats everyone's opinions on these two companies/receivers in terms of mostly quality and power. Both have good reviews. I've read that Yamaha's add clarity and crispness......(going with Klipsch, so I'd have that already), while the Marantz is powerhouse and provides amazing sound quality to soundtracks. I'll also go with the matching blue-ray player too. What do you guys use, recommend, and recommend between these two?
  15. Well, I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and did some listening. Here's the opinion of MY ears: Now, keep in mind I had to listen to what the guy put on and at the volume he played it, the more I pushed to try and get him to really get it going, the more he was kinda like, "eh, that's good enough." RP-260 vs RP-280 - Very, very, very subtle difference. I had the guy switch back and forth between the two about 5 times, and not until the 4th time could I start to hear a very little difference. The 5th time, still very little. In my opinion, and from what I heard, these are probably the closest 2 speakers of the mid and upper RP line. RP-450C vs RP-440C - I could tell a difference here. The 450C sounded "fuller." Both sounded good, but there was a difference here. And I could tell the difference between the 5.25" and the 4" speakers. It gave a fuller more wholesome sound. You could tell it was bigger vs smaller speaker contest here. This was probably the most notable difference of all of them. R-115SW vs R-112SW - Didn't seem like much difference here, until, like everyone is saying the soundtrack went low. I watched the same clip with each sub, and at the points where the 12 got to rumbling, the 15 got to rumbling also and went deeper for longer. (and that enclosure is HUGE) So, as for all that.........RIGHT NOW. I think I'm gonna spring the extra $700-$800 and go with the "bigger is better" RP-280 setup. I'd rather have to much and not need it, than need it and not have it. Scrappy I caught your post, I may have to take you up on that some time. Right now though, I'm dealing with a sick (just a cold but affecting breathing) newborn.
  16. Scrappy I'm in Lees Summit, Mo. Nebraska Furniture Mart is about a 45 min ride for me. I'm bout to head out there now and go do some looking and listening. If I'm gonna go with the 15's, I'll probably just go with the RP-280F system and vice versa. Same with the 12's and RP-260's. Nothing is set in stone yet.
  17. I don't think I'm going to worry about Atmos.....I'm not THAT into it right now. I think a good 5.1 or 5.2 system will sound fine for me. I did see the RP-280FA's though and they looked pretty neat. didn't get a chance to hear them. That was another thing I forgot to mention, I don't think I'd really need the 8" woofers in the towers with 2 subs anyway. I know it seems like everyone pushes the 15's, but the RP-260 systems comes with a 12, and I'd have to buy and extra one......anyone one have an opinion on or have used 2 12's? ANOTHER QUESTION: Anyone ever buy from audiogurus.com? It's the best deal I've found so far on the entire systems PLUS includes a Yamaha receiver (which is the exact one I'm wanting also). At the package price they offer compared to other websites and ebay and amazon, it's basically all the speakers, and a free $800-$1100 receiver. This is why I keep referring to the "systems" instead of individual components. http://www.audiogurus.com/brand/klipsch.html
  18. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and have given myself a delima. I guess I'm kind of looking for someone to either talk me into or talk me out of going big. I'm getting ready to buy a Klipsch home theater system. I'm pretty sure I'm already in the realm of "overkill" with either of these systems, but I guess I'm trying to decide on whether or not to spend the difference in money between the two. Looking at the specs on individual components, they seem so close that this leans me toward the RP260. The RP280F and RP260P specs are nearly so close, that I'm sure I won't even know the difference. The center channels are basically identical. Biggest difference looks like it's between the 12" and 15" subs, and the surrounds in both systems call for the RP-250S's so those won't matter. Going with 2 subs. Figuring totals from my local dealer (Nebraska Furniture Mart), there's really only gonna be about $850 difference between both systems. THIS makes me just want to go BIG. Now, the other thing. My room is small.....only like 250sqft. However, that doesn't seem to be a problem here on Klipsch's Dolby Atmos speaker page: http://www.klipsch.com/products/reference-premiere-dolby-atmos-series I currently have an older version of the Onkyo 7.1 HTIB setup in there now, and when turned up, really, it seems like plenty to me. (this is a badass "little" system, for the size, price, and what you get) BUT, I want more......and there's that part of me that wants to go crazy, but the other part that knows it's overkill and don't want to have wasted money and power sitting in my living room. If it matters, 60" TV. What say you??
