  1. Cool keep us posted I would like to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks Dave
  2. I have an ST70 with a Curcio Audio mod and thought about changing it as well. I am not real impressed with it. What are you going to replace yours with?
  3. If I had only 1k to spend on a SS amp I get something in the order of Bryston 3B you can find them for around 600.00 great amp over a 30-year-old SS you have to throw more money at for updates. By the time your done mind as well save a few more dollars and get a Pass Frist Watt amp.
  4. You might want to check this out as well. I build the Cornet 2 a few years ago and it was an excellent sounding phono stage. https://www.haglabs.com/products/cornet3
  5. Just pick this one up the other day Anne Bisson Blue Mind on 180g blue vinyl
  6. I would say no seeing there is no sound passing through it. It's there to protect the AC line voltage, I would think there would be more influence on the sound after the power supply than before it. Also if there so magical how come Hi-End manufacturers don't put them into their amps if I were paying 10k plus I would expect something better than a 2 dollar fuse.

    Dodd..

I got to know Gary Dodd back in 2002 spent some time at his house listening to a number of different amps he built. All sounded excellent one was his 8 watt to which I had him build me one I just loved it very well made all point to point wiring. I used a few different preamps with it both tube even a SS one. Then I had him again build me a preamp to go with it but I really didn't care for his preamp it used one 6922 per channel again built very well but it just didn't do it for me sound wise. I ended up selling it and later also sold the amp for something with more power. He was a true craftsman and a really great guy it's a shame he's not with us anymore.
  8. No audio passes through these fuses but yet some are warm sounding, even bright and detailed. They have much better ears than I do I just don't get it.
  9. I do alphabetically with the exception of Classical and Soundtracks I keep them separate I plan to move things into their own genre like blues once I get over certain number of albums.
  10. That was awesome thanks for posting it Maynard
  11. Very nice congratulation on your new amp and preamp
  12. I looked too Mike didn't find anything thanks for the link to the book I downloaded it always into learning more. I will be starting my own SET amp build shortly getting everything together. Cheers Dave
  13. I might be losing my job and I will need new employment I would be a great tube thumper.
  14. I want to see under the hood of one their amp's. To see all the goodness inside
  15. I had a pair of MKlll's years ago that I got for next to nothing I rebuild them they sounded great better than the ST70 I have now. I got greedy and sold them something I wish I hadn't done.
  16. Your amp is a work of art Mike. Where are you getting the ceramic strips from?
  17. Very nice work Mike look like your effort paid off.
  18. I google it and came up empty
  19. I hear a difference in tubes I just tailor the sound by tube rolling like you said. The right gear needs to be matched to speakers, amp, and so on. If the tube circuit is designed to get the most out of that tube type then rolling high dollar NOS tubes in and out is only going to make a little difference. I would think that changing the operating point would change the sound more but I am not and expert on that.
  20. I put RCA Clear Tops I had a pair of Mullard's but I, unfortunately, broke one. Also, I learned the hard way on tube rolling. It can only a small difference in sound if any at all.
  21. The preamp is starting really sound good after some burn in time. I replaced the Golden Dragon 12AU7's with a pair of RCA's that really smoothed out the top end the Golden Dragon's were rough on the highs.
