Isn't Greenland ice and Iceland green 😎

@Ceptorman, I saw something on Discovery + the other day that brought up your quote exactly.   I believe it was a Viking documentary with Josh Yates.  The reason it was called Greenland is they wanted people to move there and were trying to infer it was green with vegetation to encourage people to populate it.  Guess those that went were pi**ed when they arrived.... back then it was probably harder to get back from where you came from.

  2. I had I think a Yamaha A-1050. It stopped working right out of warranty.  After that happened, I bought a refurbished Marantz SR-6012 that looked like new when I received it.  I’ve heard some refurbished are just returns for whatever reason that can’t be sold as new. Very happy with the Marantz. Their room correction Audyssey program works a lot better than the Yamaha version(can’t remember what it’s called)

I know I’m not talking about the exact same models you are, but they are close.  Definitely prefer the Marantz “sound”

I don’t have any high end shops near me to sample.  I hate buying this stuff hoping for the best...

we got out.  Girlfriend had some issues to attend to in Indiana. We left Tuesday. We are going back home to GS tomorrow. Got a generator and supplies.

Talked to neighbors. We bought at the high point on the island.  Even then, the water was a few feet from the front and back patios.  We are blessed. Duty now is to assist others. I’m ready to return.  I’m hearing it is bad on the ground now. Foley, north of us had a lot of wind damage, GS got the water damage.

Girlfriend works at the Wharf if you’ve ever been there. Two coworkers lost their homes. A lot of people lost their vehicles to the floodwaters.

The plan is the check our house out, then go out into the community and assist in debris removal or whatever else I can do. We were told the infrastructure for electricity was destroyed worse than Ivan. The timetable for electricity to be up is one month.

Community is strong here.  We will rebuild.

    Thanks for the concerns

  4. I see you live in Florida’s big bend.  I’m in Gulf Shores. Sally turned our way this morning.

Reminds my of when my parents lived in coastal Mississippi back when Ivan hit (2004?) It was headed to Biloxi and at the last minute turned dead East and hammered Gulf Shores and Pensacola.  They have the eye of Sally hitting Gulfport/Biloxi now as they had it forecast during Ivan.  I hope Sally doesn’t do the same thing Ivan did. At least Sally is a cat1, Ivan was a cat 3 if I remember correctly.   They’re forecasting a lot of rain for us since it’s slow moving.

SVS builds good subs and their 5 year warranty seals the deal imo. Plus if you order direct from SVS you have a 45 day zero cost to you returns. I've owned a couple Rythmik/Brian Ding creations but again 2 or 3 year warranty on electronics.

Ive had this for about a month.  Prior to this I had an R-112 SW which blew the amp after about 3 years.

Happy with the sound coming from it with music or HT.   Really like using their app on smartphone to adjust the subwoofer from the couch.  After the R-112 SW amp issue, I really like the guarantee.  Under $1000.

The room it’s in is about 16x25

Whatever math we all use to qualify our decisions sometimes makes PERFECT sense applied as a yearly cost.

Six grand over a modest ten years of sonic bliss is a meagre 600 bucks a year.

What’s that, the cost of a daily cup of coffee?

“For the price of a cup of coffee every day you COULD be listening to Cornwall’s!”  LOL!

That should be KLIPSCH’S new marketing slogan!

Haha. I can’t like this enough.   This is how I justified my Fortes, my TV, everything in my Audio/video system .  It just makes since to me.  And I’m very happy with my stuff too.

  7. Agree with the OP.  The best secret out there.  I was using my RP-160M as surrounds. Bought a place south preparing to retire.  Took the speakers south, found an older model RC62II at Fry’s for 150 and a refurbished Denon to power them.  Just for something while I was on the coast.

They sounded fantastic as the front LR on a 3.1 system. The only time the sound started breaking down was when I maxed Out the power.  Very impressed for $350.  I was surprised

I took the bottom base off so they sat flat on some stands I bought from monoprice.  I didn’t see much of a difference between this generation and the newer generation other than some cosmetics

Took 3 years and now I have moved, they’re back at surround duty.  I don’t know what’s different about them, but they sound awesome for the price.  Best value vs sound out there. Find a RC62II and it makes movie nights awesome too.

  8. Same deal with my R-112SW.  I’ve had it for 3 years.  No issue until now.  When it first started, I could unplug it and power it back up and everything fine for a few days. Repeated this a few times but the amount of time it stayed on kept getting shorter to the point it won’t come on anymore

I took the cables and used them on a prior generation Klipsch 12”sub and it works fine

I’m to the point of turning my back on anything Klipsch that requires their installed electronics to power them.  I had a small 10” sub that did this and a Bluetooth speaker that wouldn’t power up.  I’ll probably go to SVS next for subs.  Sad, I always liked the sound of that sub, but I heard too many issues with the Klipsch subs power wise to buy another.  Why they don’t change their supplier for electronics I don’t know

Love their speakers, but if they require an electrical plugin to work, I’m not buying until I see progress on this.

  9. I bought a Sony UBP X800 when they first came out.  Worked for about a week, then kept freezing up during playback. I wanted to like it. It looked and sounded good.  I guess I got a bad one.

Finally took it back and bought an Oppo 203 before they shut down. Did not want to pay $500 for it, but I’m in this hobby and addicted. Love the picture on the oppo.  Upgrades non 4-k discs very well.  The Oppo doesn’t have apps, so I have a Roku Premier on the HDMI input.  Hooked up with audio going to receiver and video to disc, both via HDMI out.  Never seen that, had to try it.

After hearing for years that HDMI cables are all the same, I found out you need upgraded cables for 4K because of the extra data transferred.

I was debating on buying the 205 at the time I bought the 203. I think those were going for $1300 at the time, but had the added audio upgrade with good DAC’s.  Wish I would have, those were going for outrageous prices in the months after Oppo shut down.

  10. After a couple years of using a bronze badge to get into qualifying and the garage area at Indy 500, I finally went to the race last year.  Had decent seats but it was 91and Indiana humidity.  We lasted about 150 laps and had to leave.  Enjoyed the pageantry and what we saw of the race.  The girlfriend and I were just wiped out under a canopy with no air circulation.  Might go again this year with better seats.  It is something to see.  The amount of people is unreal.  Before the race, we walked to the pagoda and took it all in.  Great crowd, friendly.

The bronze badge is one of the best bargains. I only used it for qualifying days and it gets us in the garage and up close. Got both me and girlfriend in on it.  The ticket people don’t really look too close when going in.  Got to walk around and absorb the history of the place when it’s not too full compared to race day.  Visited museum.  Also used badge to get into the Friday and Saturday concerts before the race.  It wasn’t groups I would have paid to see.  Last year Train and Blues Traveler played on Friday.  Wasn’t really a Train fan, but became one.  They had the crowd going.  Played some Led Zeppelin songs that were spot on.  Saturday they had Sam Hunt, who I thought I’d enjoy, but didn’t.

Really a great experience.  Definitely getting the bronze badge this year.  I just like exploring the place without the crowd and visiting the garage. Best bargain in racing.

Played golf there in April.  The course has 4 holes inside the race track.  Nice course.

  11. I had an RC-52 with RF-52II .  I currently have a RC-62 II with another system.  The 62 is a fuller sound, one of the hidden gems of Klipsch. I just looked, and there are new ones out there.  Search for “Klipsch RC-62 II” on amazon and eBay. $250-285. They’ve been discontinued, but there are new one out there.  I bought mine from Fry’s about 8 months ago.

  12. @L.A.kevin

First, the RP-600M are an excellent start.  I have the prior generation at my retirement house I’m trying to get to.  The AVR’s I’ve had are Yamaha 1050 (sounded like crap, something broke, out of warranty when it started sounding awful).  A Denon AVR 4200 ( HDMI inputs started dropping out one by one, out of warranty). Bad luck.  Now I have a Marantz 6012.  It sounds the best out of all of the AVR’s I’ve had for music.  Just my opinion.

Also have a Parasound pre and amp.  That sounds the best for music, but it’s down south....get to it soon I hope.

The RP-600 are excellent.  I have a friend that has the RP600’s teamed up with his grandfathers old Marantz tube amp.  Excellent sound. Get yourself an RC62 for your center. You can find them cheap, but you have to look.  That setup is great for home theater.  Good starter system.

    Good luck...

Man, your questions and comments are going to fit perfectly into the next thread I am planning on regarding the RP-600M vs the RF-83's!  Good question.

I've been listening to the RP-600'Ms now in the Mancave doing 2.0 and 3.1 listening with an RC-64 III in the middle.  They do have some limitations but they fit very well acoustically with the big center speaker, and work really well in 2.0.

I just moved the RP-600M to the living room so I haven't tested it fully in 2.0, but I do have some comments.

In the Mancave the RP600M was not set up properly, nearfield above my head on their sides but pushed with a 200 wpc XPA-5 external amp.  The had an articulate mid-range, really good highs and surprisingly strong mid-bass.  These absolutely can stand on their own as a stereo pair in 2.0.

I found the limitations to be that they were fairly thin at lower power levels, but what speaker isn't?  They have a real sweet spot around med to loud where they sound friggin' unbelievable with a full, very balanced sound.  Male and female vocals are pleasant and clear.  Bass guitar has some punch and can give you a chest thump.  That's unheard of for a pair of bookshelf speakers with 6.5" woofers.

I'll tell you something else they do; they image like you would not believe.  I simply plugged them in without being setup and Judge Judy was on TV as I plugged everything in.  In my picture below you can see the speakers are a bit below the TV, but I swear when I first heard them the sound was coming exactly from the center of the TV.  It sounded better than with my dedicated MTM center speaker w/7" Usher woofers, which is no slouch.  I had to recheck my AVR to make sure the center was turned off.  It was.  That phantom center with the RP-600M blew the RF-83's away.  I couldn't believe it.

The other limitation is if you try to get crazy loud.  They play nicely loud but if you push it to ear bleed levels (which they will handle power-wise) they become a bit unbalanced as the top end gets a bit compressed and you lose dynamics.  Understand, I am being super-picky here.  The RP-600M has a fantastic sound in the SPL range where 90% of us listen.  It sounds live! with some punch in its sweet spot.

I am about to try them as mains myself where I'll use them in 2.0, then add a single 15" sub, then add a nice dome tweeter MTM center for multi-channel.  So far they have handled everything I've thrown at them.  I'm interested in how they will do with the sub engaged.

    +++

Geez, I almost forgot about your original question, what height stands do I recommend?  From my seated position they are slightly below axis.  I think I would like to try them higher at ear level, which means another 6 inches high, which means a 24 inch stand.  I'll experiment with that.  As they sound right now on their current 18" stands, slightly below center I can tell you they sound great.

Edit:  I just checked the Monoprice web site on the Glass stands @RTR linked to.  They are listed at 23.6 inches.  Those are the ones to go for.

In 2.0 it sounds like Judge Judy is yelling at the litigants directly from her mouth in the center of the screen, crystal clear.  B)

    RP-600M Judge Judy_small2.jpg

Getting off track here.  Everything you say about the RP600’s applies to my previous generation RP-160M’s. Fantastic speakers for the price. I bought them for my hopefully soon retirement place down south til I get my main system down there.  Paired them up with a cheap  RC62 center and they sound awesome for the price. As you said, soundstage is amazing and they sound good as LR for home theater.

Anyone at at work that talks about getting home theatre system I recommend these to them. Great place to start with sound system.

  14. I bought a Marantz from Accessories 4 Less about a year ago. It was just a five channel compact version for a place I have down south.  It came to me pretty beat up.  The badge wasn’t attached and the unit was scuffed up.  One of the antennas for the WiFi was broken.  I plugged it in and tried it.  It sounded ok, but I couldn’t get past the way it looked.  It had all the paperwork that said it was refurbished by Marantz.  I called A4less up and they immediately took it back and apologized for my inconvenience.  Money was back in my account as soon as they received it.  So I’m happy with their customer service, disappointed that no one saw how beat up the unit was at Marantz or A4less.

Recently, my couple year old Denon AVR4200 HDMI inputs started dropping out one by one.  It was a few months out of warranty.  I bought a Marantz SR6012 refurbished from Safe and Sound.  I was scared off A4less after my prior experience with the unit itself, not the customer service. Paperwork said it was refurbished by Marantz also.  This unit looks brand new and seems to work well. Different experience, but that’s the chance with buying a refurbished unit.

  15. @svaraj I have Forte III also. When I got them, I had a 450C. I felt that was lacking. Got ahold of @MetropolisLakeOutfitters and he suggested the RC-64II. It was a big difference from the 450C.  I realize it's probably not the perfect match, but I have no complaints.

The RC-64 fits in my setup. I'm happy with it.  I also have an RC-62II in my other setup. It is stronger than the 450C for a center. Much clearer dialogue for movies with the 64II being top for what I've listened to.

Looking at your picture, I would think a Heresy III would fit your setup and probably be the best option. Call around, you should be able to pick a new one up for a good price.

I didn't take that one, it was a customer that is on here and it was circulated but I don't think it is an accurate representation, that's why I showed the exact same speakers in the picture below it, which is more accurate with what they look like in person.  They will darken a little but it shouldn't be super fast, it's the UV rays that darkens pale wood like cherry and maple and that's typically a process that takes a couple years at the minimum.

@KJH  The original natural cherry Forte’s were mine.

No. 1 - Cory is great to work with.  I recommend him. Very knowledgeable in

No. 2- The Fortes were very light when I first received them. That’s a Heresy in the old cherry sitting by the Forte in the picture. It was unbelievable how much darker they became in a few months.  They looked like a pine finish when I first received them. They got darker unbelievably fast. All my furniture matches the old cherry finish that the Heresy had.  I had Cory special order the new Fortes in the darker cherry color. Everything’s a match now in the room. If you have any doubts, order in cherry from Cory. I think I got them in 5 weeks. Cory can correct me if I’m mistaken. Also ordered a 64II center from Cory. The Forte’s sound fantastic in any finish.

I highly recommend Cory. Give him a chance before you order. I wish I would have found him when the Klipsch addiction started. Unfortunately I started small and upgraded. Get the Fortes first and you’ll be happy.

Im waiting for the heritage subs to come out so I can order those in cherry and have the matching set.
