  1. Walnut guy all the way but I do quite like cherry as well. If you ordered from Corey you could probably ask for natural cherry for a much lighter tone such as the cherry Forte IIIs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. IIRC I just pried it open as hard as I could without damaging the wood with a metal putty knife bc the plastic wasn’t strong enough. Remove the screws first of course. Of course if you’d rather be more careful than me, there are better ways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I remember I had to pry mine open pretty hard Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Take a KLF-C7, get a replacement FIII mid horn + k70g driver and drop it into the KLF-C7. The k70g is used as a 2 way in some PRO surrounds-which brings me to the next best option outside of 1. A Forte III center(which still isn't ideal given the passive radiator creates more placement issues-i personally own a single Forte III as a center speaker), is to use a KPT-1260H Klipsch pro surround speaker which uses the same Forte III 12" woofer and the mid horn/driver combo as a 2 way. 102db sensitivity. Built-in 8° downward angle with 15° angle option for different placement options.
  5. They may say just Walnut on the label, but i don't think Klipsch has ever distinguished what kind of cut of walnut veneer they used. Usually only label the finish such as oiled or lacquered. California Black Walnut and Australian Walnut being two recent walnut veneers they've used by name to distinguish from regular walnut veneer at a premium price of course.
  6. I don't know what exactly the pattern in the wood grain is called, is it figures? cathedrals? Whatever it's called, it has those that really stands out from the plan sliced flat cut walnut used on most of the klipsch products from that era ie: Modern KHorns and the new AK6 use walnut veneer that doesn't look so flat cut basic walnut anymore Subtleties like that which can make the veneer look much more luxurious. Though those Khorns for sale have that old oiled look that a lot of WO Klipsch products from their day have that i really don't like at all. It makes the walnut look too red toned. I really wish i could find an old pair of Walnut oil'ed Chours II, strip/sand them and give them a natural lacquered finish on top of the raw walnut and sell my black Chorus II and match my Walnut Forte III center. My Khorns are raw Fir, and since i can't sell them as is and be happy with the pay out, i'm thinking of going big with figured walnut veneer one day when funds permit.
  7. I was thinking the same thing. Those are gorgeous even though I’m not a fan of KHorns with the collar. Too outdated looking for me. But I gather that some people just look on the klipsch site and see the price for new KHorns and come up something they believe is fair Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Your idea of Restore a Finish and #0000 steel wool is probably good enough to remove the water marks. They do make Restore-A-Finish with a bit of varnish to add some darker color to help hide all imperfections. Assuming of course these are just raw birch La Scalas with no finish. Another option is Danish Oil with a bit of dark varnish. I've used Walnut Danish Oil and Dark Walnut Danish oil. If you want to keep the natural Raw Birch look with some natural pretty glow. You can use the Restore a Finish and steel wool to remove water marks. Dry off all residue with a paper towel until nothing comes off anymore/maybe even wait some days, and then you can just use Natural Watco Danish Oil too. Just 3 coats should be good enough. Danish Oil can leave a beautiful shine/glow to the natural wood. You can again use #0000 steel wool with the Danish Oil on the last application. After you clean off all left over residue. You can leave it alone and let it dry completely over a few weeks and then you can apply Feed N Wax as a bit of extra protection. An example of Walnut Danish Oil on sanded raw oak Chorus II's(nothing else done to it-though i did apply a wax top coat later): (Keep the grills!) Also, no idea what you'd do about the backs of the dog house. Really tough to get back there. I've only repainted Industrial La Scalas black and even that was tough. Can't imagine stripping/sanding and staining. Seems a daunting task.
  9. That doesn't look too bad at all, it's just the wood grains are too big and open. The oak Klipsch uses these days has a more aesthetically pleasing grain pattern now. You should look into purchasing some white or red oak with tighter grain patterns and veneer the speaker and start from scratch with the distressed oak appearance. Oak veneer isn't that costly either.
  10. Just saw the 2nd page of the spec sheet you mentioned. Interesting. Hadn't seen that before!
  11. Is the top hat enclosed? You mean like the 60th anniversaries? If that's your question, it doesn't appear to be so. Only the LF bin is enclosed it seems
  12. Interesting. Are those version 3? Gotta be verrry careful with shipping too if anyone is considering them because any damage to them with no parts replacements would be a nightmare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. @wvu80 Dave, got any help on the serials/version, price average?
  14. I honestly have no clue what they go for. Can’t even get that much for my KHorns so I paused when I saw the price but also wasn’t surprised since they’re so rare and I never really see them listed to judge. Never heard them either Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Raw cherry! Gorgeous! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Photo is from 2004. Maybe they’ve put an exotic veneer on all of them by now? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Thank you for that. So it’s the tweeter that’s hot? That thread about making it two way is interesting as I was just thinking the other day about putting the k70 with horn in my KLF-10s when I too discovered one of the pro surrounds uses the k70g driver as a 2 way out to 19khz. While I don’t have the skill to solder and experiment in making the forte III a 2 way, I can try and swap in my Chorus II tweeter with Ti or phenolic and see if it’s not as hot. For now I’ll eq the tweeter a few dB down Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. So I’ve finally got my single Forte III set up as a center channel and just as the first time i tried listening to it in mono, there’s a peak that my ears are really sensitive too. Makes my ears instantly raise every time. I’ve seen someone else mention this issue and I wonder if there’s anyone who has a freq graph of the forte III so I can apply a few db decrease eq to that peak. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Just give klipsch parts department a call and ask them what CD is used with the KPT-GRAND-HF-N tweeter on the 3 way jubilee. If you order a pair of k510's from Corey, i'm sure he will know which cd's come with the 3 way jube as well, maybe it's just another k69(?)
  20. You already have one on your jubescala Craig. K510 little horn that could is used as the tweeter in a 3 way jube but I don’t know what compression driver is used Pro site calls it a KPT-GRAND-HF-N Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I’m totally missing my Dean networks. Never realized how rough the stock caps sounded until I went back to the 76 AAs. An in my face noisy and fatiguing sound. Crackling K77s too now, though it could be the amp. The blacker background is exactly what I got with the ppt theta build. Can’t imagine how lovely the Jupiter’s sound as well as those others. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Yeah I know about those but wuzzers Heresy IIIs are silver and black like my stock pie badges from 76. Didn’t know they were remaking and placing them on new speakers as I’ve only seen the jubilee pie badge and the classic cursive badges. Haven’t seen any new Cornwall’s, fortes, la scalas, khorns or heresys offered with those black and silver pie badges. So I was wondering if it’s actually an option not many know about and no ones thought to call in and ask which I should do! @wuzzzer how did you get those black and silver pie badges? Did you request them? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. The guy that said it was correct from his 68s, my 76s also have the same badge and now wuzzers new HEresy IIIs somehow have that same silver badge with both sides of the V. Looks like the same exact silver and black badge but new on Heresy IIIs which I’ve never seen. Would love to know if Klipsch is selling these again. EDIT: just looked at wuzzzer’s HIIIs and his have only half of the V cut out like you mentioned. I have seen others like mine and the others above with both cut out though. Either way, I’d like a pair of those new silver pie badges! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. It was shipping damaged and I got it for a steal. Repaired the cabinet myself. Everything sealed up tight and working great. I originally thought it’d be a perfect center channel with my Chorus II but I can’t figure out a way to make it work since my entertainment center is too big and I’d have to place it up really high horizontally. Don’t really want to do that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Does klipsch sell those pie badges? I need some new ones on my KHorns Awesome HIII’s! I want a pair! But at the price I might as well just get a single Forte III to make a pair with my single since I can’t sell it by itself. Funny how this thing goes. Need money. Put it up for sale. Can’t sell. So spend money to make a pair. Only logical. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
