Well, he posted them deceptively as version 1's. That would be enough in my book, since I suspect its the seller's way to try to con someone out of more money.

So much for that, they are taken down.
I suspect that listing a pair of Cornwalls in nice shape for $500 probably drew more fire than they were ready for....or drew sufficient response for them to rethink the offering price.
-
I already sent the seller a message so I will wait until I hear back from him. They look nice from what I can see in the two pics
Tim
Somehow I figured you'd be all over this.

The one in the pic looks to be in good shape anyway.

"What else in the current Klipsch line would you be able to go into a store and buy right now that would give you as much speaker as the KLF-30's?"
RF-7IIs?http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/ele/5519835211.html
Hey guys, I just exchanged emails with a local guy selling these KLF-30's with consecutive serial numbers.
Is $1000 too high for these?
He says the only blemish is a tiny tear in the bottom of the one speaker grill. I trust your input so please let me know what you think. Thanks
Tim
I saw those too. If I could afford them, I'd be in the car right now.
"Too high" is such a relative term. I've seen gear that I thought was insanely priced sell quick, and other gear that was a good value at the asking price just sit. I think it depends both objective and subjective circumstances.
You could drive a lot further from your home to buy a pair of KLF-30's if you really wanted them, but these are close to you and appear to be in good shape. I think the KLF's are holding their value pretty well these days. What else in the current Klipsch line would you be able to go into a store and buy right now that would give you as much speaker as the KLF-30's?
If I had a bigger room that would accommodate these, and the funds, I'd go get them for that price.
Palladiums?

Mark - the asking price for those KLF-30's is $1000. If you can find a new pair of RF-7 II's or Palladiums for $1000, please let me know. I'll go buy them right now. Since I don't have the money, I'll have to knock over a party store or gas station on the way, but it'll be worth it!
I answered the question that was posed. If you're talking used for $1000, you can pick up some very nice Chorus, or LaScalas
Mark
Yup, you did, and I didn't phrase my initial question correctly. The point I was trying to make was this: the OP's question is whether or not $1000 is a fair price for the KLF-30. If you walked into a Klipsh dealer today and wanted to buy a new pair of Klipsch speakers, what could you buy in store that would give you as much speaker for $1000 as the KLF-30?

Is $1000 too high for these?
Too high, IMO - sold a pair dressed in Oak with Crites and baffles sealed for $650 last year.
If you are up for a little drive, there are an AWESOME pair of Chorus in St. Louis available. I would bet he would let them go for 1K?

This was used in the KG series, 10 in woofer. Looking for anyone who might have a spare to sell. Thanks for looking.
I believe this woofer was used in the KG4.2, 4.5 and KG 5.* speakers.
-
These aren't too far from me... KG5.2 for $250.
Seems like a lot of speaker for the money. Bet they won't last long.
-
Not sure why these speakers don't get more love among Klipsch devotees. I recently picked these up locally used of CL for $90. Sure enough, the cabinets needed re-gluing. While I was inside the boxes, took the opportunity to give the cabs a bit of extra bracing. Found some scrap wood for cheap at Home Depot that worked great, Used Liquid Nails to re-glue the cabs. Spent some money on the Crites titanium diaphragms. So, for $155 for the pair plus the cost of Liquid Nails I've got a "new to me" set of speakers.
I dropped these into my main system just for kicks: powered by a nice EL-84 based amp. All I can say is that for the price of admission these things are amazing. They'd still be amazing if I paid $100 more, so I'm having thoughts about a crossover upgrade to put the finishing touch on these. However, as they sit right now with the Crites upgrade and the stock crossovers, the sound that these things make is VERY pleasing to my ears. Lotsa dynamics, sounds great with no matter what music I've thrown at them. Listening to some old Loggins and Messina right now, and the boys sound like they're kicking back and playing right here in the man-cave. Listened to some Oscar Petersen this morning, and Oscar never sounded better.
These things have to be THE stone cold value buy in the Klipsch world right now. I've seen a few pair on CL and the Bay since I've picked these up, and the prices seem to be reasonable in the used market for what you get. No, they don't have the super-lively mids of the Heritage line, but they've got a very nice balance and can kick out some serious and controlled bass when placed in the listening room with care.
Other than the deteriorating cabinet glue and some easily hidden age spots and battle scars, they look great. These are black satin so the few nicks and scratches were easily covered. I've seen a pair for sale on the Bay not far away in oak finish that would look great in a more formal room.
For folks looking to put together a great system, but whose budget won't command new stuff or used Heritage, these are an easy recommendation.

I've got one of Nate's EL-84 amps. Its this little guy right here. LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it sounds. Nate really has a talent for making great sounding stuff.

Some open cell foam cut to shape and inserted into the throat of the horn might help tame some of the brightness. Also, if you have a friend that's into audio, you might swap amplifiers and see what happens. Some amps have a warmer sound than others.

No affiliation. Looks like the same owner for both.

Uh oh. Only about an hour away. I'm heading for Miami on Sunday. If these are still available when i get back.....
-
Belleville is not that bad an area. $750 for the KLF-30's is a steal if they are as nice as they seem. Could always arrange trade off at the police station....which is what the police in MI want you to do!
Looks like he just dropped the price from $1000.
